Forum-Info Forum workings
OP: May 16, 2010, 05:02:02 AM
The verification codes for each post.
Does that go away after you have posted so many times?
Congrats on getting this going. It looks really good!

And in purple!

I do love purple...I can be myself again!

It took me a few minuts to figure out what the verification codes are--since I have enough posts that I do not see them.

Remember those PM spam issues we had at that other forum? Those PMers had zero posts. This was a security recommendation to discourage spam posters and yes, it only lasta for a few posts. It is set to either 10 or 25 I think.
I was supposed to set the ability to PMs for a number of posts also, but I don't think that has worked, so I'll need to recheck it.

I think that the verification codes are an excellent idea, if it is only for a short time.

I am so glad you started this forum, RCR.

I have followed your website since I found out about MLC in 2008. I have many, many times directed others to your site. You and I have had several email exchanges over the last 2 years.

Thanks!!!

Heck, I didn't realize the PMs were working, LOL...this is a really nice site, RCR.  I've read through some of your articles, and you are a very accomplished, pen lady. :)

There is also a much more peaceful feeling about this board, and I like that very much! :)

Believe I will hang out with you for some time, if you don't mind. :)

I totally agree, HB. RCR's site is what led me to the belief my H is in MLC and probably saved my chances at saving my M... THANK YOU RCR for this great site. Like the vibe so far, and really like being able to reach out more in a community fashion.

Just for everyone's info. At this point there is a limit of  5 PM's until you run out of space. So you will have to delete them or send them to e-mail. Might be a function of server space.

I just changed the PM's setting.

It was supposed to not allow PMs until you have 25 posts to discourage spammers who register, do not post and send advertisements to members. That has been a problem on another MLC forum. I've reset it so you must have 25 posts before PM'ing. Sorry for the inconvenience, but those adverts were annoying.

But above 25 posts it should be unlimited.

Ok I don't need to use the verification now for PM's or posts. So the newbies can't send a PM but I assume they can receive one??? I will figure it out, sent one to a first time poster.

I did try to send a PM, and I thought it worked.  And I hadn't posted anything yet.  Does that mean that a PM that I have sent hasn't got through?

Your PM worked. See if it works if you try to send it to someone else--maybe anyone can send me a PM. That is how I hope it works. I think anyone can receive them, but am not sure yet.

One other minor question. The default font size on everyones posts is very small.
Is there a way to make it a little bigger and easier to read as a default.
Rather than changing it for each post?

OP You can change your browser settings if you want.
Everyone's screens will be different sizes, so changing size on a forum is usually not recommended, unless it's ridiculously small.
The font on this website looks great on my screen.

Another weird thing that happened was that I had a colorful new button for every post that was new, now it just changes to the word "new" no button

I get the button still.
Your font size looks OK on my laptop but with the desktop monitor, it just barely runs off the page.
I admit that my font size (this one) looks a tad small... perhaps one in the middle would work?

I think the default is what it is, but will ask over at the SMF forum. The biggest annoyance for me is that there seems to be a bug with the font size tags and they go away if you try to modify. They also must be used a lot more than the other tags--after every item in a list.

Increasing the screen size can distort things since it is simply like blowing up an image and doesn't fix the issue for everyone.

That button for every new post, I can't see it at all and I'm not sure if I ever have. I might have in the first days before adding my custom icons though. I had to go into the board icons and replace my images with the standard board icons--like a smiley, wink, exclamation...but I had to keep the original filenames because it required them. One day while at work I found a place to add new files with custom names, but I couldn't find the info when I got home. I had wondered if that was why the new button is just one of those red Xs for me, but it sounds like that is not the case.

What is the image of? If it is one of my custom post icons, then it's due to my tinkering and I should look into fixing it.

It's just a box with the word "new" in it, and if you click on it, it takes you to the part of the post that you last read, so you can read only the new posts on that thread. It's very convenient.

I just wanted to add that I really like this forum as well.  RCR, I have looked forward to each newsletter you send out since I started receiving them a few months back.  For me, I really need to understand MLC, not just try to survive living with someone going through it.  It has certainly helped me with patience and being understanding.

I also agree with HB about this forum seeming to be more "peaceful" than others, and I like the vibe here a lot better.

This is just a question about the coaching archives. Maybe its just me since I havent read every word of each one but the dates that are in their seem all mixed up. Is their an easy way to read them in time order(I am talking for each indvidual thread)? I was just reading one and it seemed to skip all around in dates. Am I missing something?

Sorry to be such a pain.

Hmmm,

I don't know why they would be mixed up. But I'm assuming first that you are talking about the ones I had to transfer from my personal files and thus I added dates at the top--so the dates listed by the forum auto-dater mean nothing.

If that's the case...which thread or threads? I can check my archives--I could have messed up the dates--and then compare them to the original receipt in the emails too.

The only real dates are at the top. There is at least one--TrustandLove's--where there are also dates in the middle. Those are simply the dates I oulled her comments from the forum I was reading. When she contacted me I went back to her forum to familiarize myself with her situation and read 2-3 years worth--she had not been a prolific poster. So since I was pulling information that was from 2 years ago, I put the dates on the comments.

But D Money, Amazing. Andy57...they were all directly to me and should follow in an orderly fashion.

Maybe I am getting confused by the dates from the forum. In general the oldest posts should be at the top and the newest at the end? Is this correct?

Ok I went back and looked again and I am correct with what I said above.

I was getting confused between the different years and the forum dates that make it seem like it is conflicting times.

I apologize for creating any confusion, but MLC is confusion. LOL

Is anyone on the forum using the "buddies" function?
If they are and can explain how it works I would aprreciate posting it here.
If no one is using it I will go to the SMF website and see if I can read some documentation on it.

There has been some questions to me about it and frankly I do not know the answer yet.
But I will try to find out.  :) :) :)

From the SMF website:

Buddy List
A Buddy List displays all of the members on the forum whom you have added as a “buddy”. This list will also show their online status and contact information if available.

This is a basic buddy list. It allows you to easily add people to your list through their profile. Once on your list it shows your buddies in the "who is online" area and makes it easy to select people to send IM's too.

You can access your Buddy List to edit buddies via your profile.

This is what I have found out so far.

I just created a small buddy list to see what it does.

It tells you some small amount of information about each user, whether they are online or not.
Depending on how your preferences are set up you can control a few other things.

Stayed, I am not sure if I have answered your question yet.

Maybe you should just create a buddy list for yourself and see what happens.  :) :)

We have been working on the forum in case anyone has noticed.
Almost all the locked threads are now in the archives.

We may be making some other organization changes to the forum.
Mostly for ease of use and cosmetic.

I am trying to link most people threads together, if anyone closes a thread and opens a new one please link them together or notify a moderator to help you. Also lock your old threads when you are done with them.

Avatars may need to be re-loaded if you have a custom avatar.
When RCR re-installed some forum software, we may have lost custom Avatars.

Please note earlier in this thread about keeping thread size at 100 posts.

Thanks everyone for your cooperation.

Yes we are still getting logged out involuntarily.
Bear with us as this is some sort of forum glitch.

If you are posting and it happens you can try hitting the back button and you might still be able to regain your post.
Then you can copy and paste it after you log in.

Or just copy all posts before you press the POST button just in case.... :) :)

Any questions????

Just going to post this here so I don't forget.

If you lose the Header on the top of the forum that says
Welcome xxxxx
Show unread posts

There is an arrow ^ in the upper right hand corner of the main page next to a search box - click on that and it will either disasppear or appear as appropriate.

Hope that helps.

Edit - the button is now above the search box on my display at the very top right hand corner of the
forum.
