Title: MLCer occupations
Post by: Mermaid on May 21, 2011, 03:18:20 AM
In parallel to Still's thread on LBS occupations is this one on MLCer's occupations.

iI've kept the categories the same as Still's original thread.

I think both polls might be a bit more interesting if they reflected traits about the person rather than a certain field.  For instance, does the job interact with people a lot, does it have a lot of responsibility?  Don't know what other ones would be.  In the end, it probably doesn't matter as I think this happens across all walks of life.

I think the interest of this is exactly that it does happen across all walks of life.

Some professions have higher burnout rates, but in the end it's down to their coping skills, resources, and how they engage with the job.

I just started thinking my husband never went away to college and lived in a dorm and "Got it out of his system" In the seventies he turned to drugs and rock n roll and just got dependent on using alcohol and drugs to deal with stress. Smart as a whip he is. Never turned it into a career. Bounced from carpenter to bus driver.   Felt like "what if" ???   .......replay.............On BD day as I cried "I want a do over" He said " There are no do overs Mamma Bear"...............Really? What is MLC then if not a desperate attempt at a DO OVER?
Now it's his turn. Good Luck Pal. That ship has sailed. Apparently all Mamma Bear's fault :o
Title: Curious about MLCer's jobs before BD
Post by: Synicca on June 22, 2011, 03:42:57 PM
I have read many threads where the MLCer had a Traveling job...some of which found there OW/OM
in another town or State...

I would like to see if the stresses of this type of job carries more weight...

My H is an industrial Computer Electrician...He programs the electrical systems in Packing line equipment.
and travels all over the US and Canada...and further if need be.

Found his Ow in NY, We live in Cali.

My H has to travel for his job and he has definitely used the oppertuinity to sample some of the local dishes. He thought because he was out of country he would not get caught...this guy really has underestimated my PI skills.

I really do think this plays a big part however, it seems they don't mind bottom feeding across town either.

Thanks Still

I was just wondering if the traveling may have played some sort of part in the lack of connection
they feel with the LBS's...

With my H's long trips away..and the large amount stress he had while gone..He kept saying he
missed us, couldnt wait to get home..hated being gone so long...then met Ow and that was that.
No more missing us...in fact 1 week before BD..I told H on his FB not to forget us as I felt something
was really wrong...little did I know a week later he was to meet her.

Hmmm maybe it is the lack of coping skills. My H used drugs to not have to deal with that. maybe after
being "clean" he couldnt figure out what to do...hence MLC...

Its a thought anyway.

My husband is a financial adviser for one of the top insurance/investment companies in the world. His income is strictly commission based. So if he makes a sale he gets paid if not he doesnt get paid. Husband is his own worst enemy. Nothing is ever enough. Sets these high goals and wears himself down trying to make the most in sales. Such a workaholic. Caused some problems in our marriage. He would work 6 days a week most of the time for 10 hours or more a day. Have off sunday to spend with me but then started going out with friends on our day.

Education.

My W is a teacher advisor for within a large NW UK education authority. She was in the classroom for 20 years before moving into this advisory role. Since last summer and the change of UK government, the formerly centrally funded programme on which she works has been axed in all but name and had to be funded locally. With all the spending cuts she and her colleagues have been given 12 months 'grace' to turn themselves into a self-funding unit - no local funding after March 2012.
