Hi My Fellow LBS,
I am in NYC (Manhattan) and would love to host a NYC weekend gathering in November, if anyone is interested. To make it easier for people within commuting distance, I propose a brunch or an afternoon wine and cheese (with options for non-drinkers and the lactose-intolerant, of course). I'll provide all goodies. People can just show up.
Takers?
Hugs,
Birdhouse
P.S. I have 2 cats in case anyone is allergic. But they usually hide when guests are here.
-
When? I am not in NYC, but I have a lot of friends there and really want to go see War Horse...
-
Hi LL,
I saw it. It is wonderful. The horse puppets are amazing. And right across the street from my apt!
Anytime in November/December. I can put up at least two people if you are traveling a distance. First come, first served!
BH
-
I would love to come. NYC is one of my favorite places to go. Let me know which weekend and I will be there.
-
I might be able to come.
Make it on a Sunday.
-
BIMS,
I would love to make it. I need to get up to NYC for a drs. appt. in the next month or so. Maybe I could schedule the appt. around your date.
I'd suggest you pick a date and see how many people can show.
As for me, the weekends of Nov. 12-14 and the Sat. & Sun. of Thanksgiving weekend (26 & 27) work well.
But my recommendation to you would be to just pick a date, put it out there and see how many takers you get. I'll try my best to make it, especially if I can coordinate my drs. appt. on a day before or after.
I'm a 3.5 hr. bus ride away or 2.5 Amtrak ride. Will probably take the bus 'cause it's cheaper!

Birdie... my Mom is in NYC.... lower Manhattan... currently, my husband and I are buying a house scheduled to close mid-november with MIL coming for Christmas, so I don't think I need to add to my "to do" list, LOL!! But keep us posted, cuz you never know! I definitely want to meet you since we are so close... and I do occasionally come into the city just to hang with her! WOuld love to meet up with everyone, also.... We'll see!! LG
-
I was trying to have a get together for october but I think it fell apart....my fault! LOL
I am in Canada so how far would you be from the border??? Maybe I can get a carpool going up here :) :) :)
-
Hi Birdie,
Depending on the weekend, I may be interested. My son is getting married 11/11/11, and I'm pretty busy until then. Like LG said, just post a date and see who can make it! I would love to meet everyone...I've been so jealous of those marvelous European get togethers!
Love, H2h
-
I am interested. Maybe weekend of Thanksgiving because some of us may be off Friday so could be a great long weekend. Crazyforhim where are you. By Canada. I am in Buffalo if you get a group together for NY. Any reasonable places to stay? Sounds great!
-
Brokenhearted...I would love to go to NY
I am about 1-1/2 from Niagara Falls but would do the drive but
would love a very reasonable place to stay too!!! LOL
-
I´m game for a gathering and even if the day you pick doesn´t work for me, please don´t get discouraged as there are quite a few folks close enough to have quorum:)
-
Crazyforhim, brokenhearted,
We should really get together. I am just 2 hours from Buffalo.
-
Still....so where are you and yes we should get together!!!
-
I am in PA, east of Erie.
-
ok i am going to re-visit this topic bc it's one of interest for me and
wondering if this is still possible to pick a weekend and see who is available.
So my question is to all- where and when....LOL??
-
Crazyforhim, glad to see this thread is back up. I have been wondering what happened to it. I am also still interested. We are kinda close by. Canada, Western New York group, along with Still from this site. I am in if we can figure out a time.
-
Yes Crazy pick a date and time . I will make it work :) Have not done too much Galing with returning to work and the kids returning to school. Megabus has really good fares to NY .
-
this is funny i was thinking about the get together and wondered what happened and then i am on another thread talking to mama bear and she is trying to get LBS's together as well.
She is a little farther in NY but I am up for it as long as we can figure out where- the when is easier I think.
The Nov 12/13 weekend works best for me so WHERE?? LOL
-
OK here is the situation as it stands right now...LOL!
Believer and I are coming to NY on Nov 19/20 weekend. We want to keep our drive to a few hours so is there somewhere we can all meet up in NY. How far are all you NYers from the border?
Just an idea but if we can book a room somewhere- what in NY is about a couple hours from the border????
Suggestions, ideas welcome
Mama- Don't know how far you are from the border?? I think you are further than a couple of hours???
We have made the decision to make the trip no matter what so NY here we come!! LOL!!
CFH
-
We will be closing on our new home on that date..... but keep me in mind for the next one, or anyone who actually lives IN THE CITY, my Mother lives downtown, so I could easily take the train in for a day on another date.... let me know. LG
-
Saracuse NY is about 2- 3 hours from Toronto. NYC is a good 7 hour drive, perhaps more.
Have fun...I'll be in Toronto Dec 20 to 27..know it's a busy week but if anyone wants to have luch or dinner let me know.
-
Xyzcf,
I'm just 2 hrs from Toronto and would love to meet up with you for lunch. I have friends there that I will want Visit that week so I will be in the area.
Believer
-
xyzcf- thanks and we will meet up in Dec for sure!
Believer- looking forward to our road trip!!
Brokenhearted was saying something about PA being about 2 hours from Buffalo
-
Let's try this again!
Sorry I disappeared! I had site access issues due to temporary p-word glitch. All straightened out now.
I would still love to host an event at my home in NYC, and Sunday as requested by OP is fine. Now that we are so far into November, what do people think about January? I usually need something to look forward to after the holidays. Alternatively, if anyone local is looking for something to do on New Year's Eve, I could do something that day. Let me know your thoughts and ideas.
Bird
-
Sorry for the password problems, we were working hard behind the scenes on that one, and I see you have a slightly new name.
I am in, for maybe both events, let me know what you decide although I am busy the weekend of Jan 13-15, so I would prefer a different one.
-
So I guess Believer and I are trying to firm up our plans and still aren't sure where in NY we are going to be.
If anyone is in you can PM me if you want to tell me where you are exactly and we can meet up.
CFH
-
BS--I decided I need to get my financial house in order before I take any trips, but I am coming to see War Horse, at some point--I just want to, so let me know what you folks decide, I was thinking January might be good for me, except it's so dang cold... I would so like to meet some other LBS's... Lisa
-
I could get together later in January..just a thought..would a weekend close to Valentine's Day work? Give those of us without a lover to look forward to..time in NYC..with great people, great food....
-
Hi Crazyforhim and Believer, I am close to Buffalo and have meant to get back to you sooner...are you headed to NYC or the Buffalo area in November. I would love to meet up...count me in..let's make plans..sorry this is so late..I was hit with some sort of flu bug thing, and had to put my sweet dog, faithful companion to sleep.
I would love to meet up!
-
Birdsoul. New Years Eve in NYC sounds great...who is interested? Maybe we could get a group together...
-
Would love to host NYE! Only trouble is finding good accommodations. There is a Comfort Inn near me but it is sold out for that weekend. I'd have to search around a bit.
LisaLives, if you are planning on WH anyway, PM me when you have a date and we can get together.
Birdy
-
Just bumping this up for one more try.
Nov 19-20 will be in NY...Looks like me and Believer and possibly Brokenhearted
anyone else?
-
New Year´s Eve- yes, interested. Could host here in Bucks County.
-
I guess we can't sleep in Zucotti Park anymore.. ::)
-
Crazy,
Will you be in NYC?
Bird
-
I wish it were NYC but quite the drive....we will be in Buffalo
-
Well just thought I would see if anyone was interested in making a few new friends? I see our compatriots in Europe have met up and made some new friends so why not here?
OK so if anyone is interested post a note in this thread and once we get a group together we can discuss the logistics. I am in Jersey just 15 minute from Manhattan. I can't really travel except day trips in the car as I am currently broke. Well I can still pay all my bills but it leaves next to nothing for travel ::) :( :o :-[
Come on people speak up and be heard. I bet we can have a lot of fun and it will make the burden less. LOL ;) ;) ;)
-
Riven,
I live in Maryland but have been to NJ many times to see Off and Learning. Also Sassy is from Jersey and lives close by me. I start my new job this Monday but will be off weekends so let me know what date and time -I will be there ready to share some drinks and laughs. I am sure Sassy will want to come too :)
G4M
-
Buggy and LettingGo are headed to my house on Sat. and Learning may join us. I have room for a few more merry souls to stay over. (The septic system is fixed.)
I live just over the river in PA- in the New Hope area.
Any takers?
-
About an hour north of PHilly
-
FTT,
I live quite close to you in south/central NJ. I have not ventured out to meet other LBS yet as I have become quite the mysterious recluse ;) and am anxious not to start crying in front of others :'(. Unfortunately, I have family plans this weekend, but if you'd ever like to meet for a cup of coffee or tea, please keep me in mind.
Take care,
L&S
-
I'd like to have a beer with you guys and in the furtherance of international concorde is there any chance of making this get-together somewhere mid-atlantic? Ok, I guess Iceland is probably not that appealing this time of year...err...just forget I said anything, carry on... :)
honour
-
Fantastic idea! It is so empowering to meet up with other LBS's... and uplifting. Honour, do you ever get to Europe? Lot's of us here. Crazystuff was in Iceland with a few friends last month, she loved it. I wouldn't RULE it out, if I were you.
Organize it Honour and you might be stunned at who will be interested. I for one have NEVER been too Iceland and I could be persuaded, hehehe. Remember, we can be in most places in a few hours, not weeks on a steamer anymore... hehehe.
hugs Stayed
-
Yeah go ahead and plan a trip! I would love to go to Iceland, but as I said right now I am broke :( but others may take you up on it. But if you do please do not hijack my thread! LOL this is for NY/NJ Meetup lets not confuse the issue we are all confused enough with our MLC'ers!!! LOL :o :o :o ;)
-
OOOOOOOOOOOps, sorry!
hugs Stayed
EDIT: I am giving out FREE THREADS today so if we use this one up, lets say 200 posts we will start a new one.
But RIVENIN2 good job setting a boundary :) :) :) - OLD PILOT
-
Keep me in the loop. I am in Central NJ by Asbury Park. Wondering will be back in a couple of weeks and Offmyrocker is here. L&S You should make the effort. You will be surprised to find out how much fun these meet ups can be.
-
SOIC,
I live in California and I know of a few more that do. I suggested to WP that we do a meet up, it would be great. If you were to put one together I'm sure others would come.
I'm jealous that I can't go to the one on the East Coast, would looooooooooove to come
C
-
;D ;D ;D The meetups have that effect! Everybody gets excited everywhere in the whole wide world. Everybody wants to JOIN UP and meet each other.
Even something as horrible as this, has some incredible advantages that would never have been experienced accept something dreadful happened, you went searching for information and support and found FRIENDS for life.
Life is so ODD... hehehe... hugs and enjoy everybody, you can dream and maybe some of you Californians will actually make it to the NY/NJ meet-up.

There are a couple of us in VA (Summer, LC) and MD that could possibly make the trek up for the day or weekend.

-
Hi I'm in NYC and would be happy to venture to New jersey just let me know where and when.
-
Aww, I'm PA, but too far. I am 8 hours from the NYC area.
-
Count me in!
-
Wish I could make it. I know it would be fun as well as enlightening meeting people that are going through the same issues in life with the same beliefs
-
Ok people I am going to give it one more day for anyone that has not read this thread to find it. Those that are interested start thinking about dates, I am looking to do this as soon as possible but if it turns out that it needs to be planned then I will consider meeting some of you individually while we plan for a bigger event. So far we have a split between weekday and weekenders so there may be at least two different meets.
-
I totally agree that dates are necessary and not everyone is going to be available.
Any thoughts about possibly choosing two dates..one for the spring in the East and one for the fall in the mid/west or west coast that way people can plan ahead and try to get to at least one.
I am willing to host in Denver in the fall and my home is large enough to serve as a meeting place with reasonably priced hotels nearby.
So, I know from the European ones, that once a date and pace was set..peole were able to comitt. let me know if I can help
-
Ok so I think this is long enough for people to have read this thread, if not then there will still be time for them to catch up.
Just to be clear, I am looking to schedule a meetup for those people that are close enough to drive, but will also plan an event for those a little further away but are interested in travel either in the spring or next fall.
I will be PM people today to get input. We have an offer for Denver later this year but I am not so sure I can make that one. I am more than happy to help with planning that meetup but cannot say if funds will be available for me to attend.
OK short term goal, drinks next week, who's interested?
-
:-\ Oh boy. I didn't see this thread until now. I'm from central NJ. Did you all meet up??? If it happens again, would you keep me in the loop?

Angelgirl you did not miss anything. I started this thread but then life got in the way and I have let it slip so I need to pick up the thread and move it forward.
My apologies to everyone, I am not good at planning things these days. I wanted to just meet people as soon as I could to get myself started on GAL but this did not work for whatever reason. So give me the rest of this week to get my head wrapped around this and I will make an announcement.
For anyone interested in meeting in a smaller group just pm me and I will try to make it, I can travel by car but cannot do overnights right now. But I love day trips. Anyway look for it by the end of this week!!
-
I'm in Central/South Jersey also.
-
hobo1 nothing has happened yet so you did not miss anything. I know I keep saying soon and have missed deadlines I myself have set. Please accept my apologies to everyone and please be patient I will be making an announcement soon about this. I am hoping everyone that was/is interested will be able to come.
To be completely honest RL has taken a toll on me these past couple months and I have not been able to keep commitments. But I think I have cycled enough and have gotten control over the sitch for the time being so very shortly I hope to have the details of a larger gathering for you all to attend shortly. I anyone has ideas feel free to shout them out or PM me.
-
I'm free every weeknight next week except Wed... Friday April 20th after work is good too, I can drive pretty much anywhere in Central/North Jersey....
-
Riven 2 and hobo1 I am not in Central Jersey but I can get there real quick. I'll be watching for the announcement. THANKS!
-
Well I have been inspired! I met up this Sunday with one of you and found it to be a remarkable experience. So although I have missed a couple of deadlines I set (I am sorry) I will be doing the research for 2 or 3 smaller get togethers for this summer. Right now I am looking into a state park type of thing for a old fashioned outdoor BBQ or picnic. A friend of mine knows just about every one within 100 miles of me so I am going to pick her brain for a good spot. I will try to get one that has some type of gazebo so we won't have to worry about a little rain. Any ideas for other get togethers post it! I will be posting the place and dates for this one shortly I just need to pick that brain I was telling you about this week. Looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can.
-
Holmdel park has large covered areas.
-
:( can't do this Saturday.
Maybe next weekend? I think LearningIamOk and I don't live too far from each other in Central Jersey...
angelgirl
-
Anyone interested in this Sunday? I live close to central Jersey, just across the Delaware in PA.
-
FTT, It's Mother's Day and I will be giving my children the opportunity to pamper me. The following weekend is better.
-
If there's ever a meetup in New York City, please let me know. Anything in New Jersey is way too far for me, though.

;D NJ isn't even far but, yet, it's a world away from Brooklyn ( in my mind ;) ).
-
I grew up in Brooklyn and still have family there and they think I live on the moon!! It is just 30 minutes away!! It takes longer for most of them to get to work in the morning, LOL
-
I was going to suggest a fieldtrip to a chocolate factory in... Brooklyn- it makes fancy pants hand made and handwrapped chocolate bars. Do you know of it?
-
I grew up in Brooklyn also. My parents are still there and think I live in the wilderness now! Truth is the bridges cost so much now -- it IS easier for Brooklynites to go into Manhattan than NJ.
-
I'll go to Brooklyn for chocolate! Many of my bank customers live in Brooklyn. They come to the Shore for the summer. They go back and forth all the time. Can't be that hard. :)
-
I too am from Brooklyn, many relatives still there...! My MLCer from Brooklyn too.
there's good Chocolate? where?
-
chocolate factory tour in Brooklyn - google mastbrothers.com they were feature in the Times. Open 12-7 every day. Any one game for an excursion this coming Sunday? You Broolynites- what else could we do in this day out?
-
K,
You could run away from RL, leave h a cryptic note, say you´ll be back soon- be vague, make a reference to having met someone online, but don´t worry, it´s just a phase and you´ll be back. Sometimes I think they deserve a whopping dose of their own medicine. That aside, it´d be a pleasure to host you, so if you ever do need to run away, know there´s light on for ya.
FTT
-
LOL - you are funny FTT! That made me laugh out loud. I would love nothing more than to deliver that line to him ........... ;D I can just imagine the reaction. One rule for him and another for me it seems, in his mind.
Thanks for leaving a light on :)

That sounds yummy... That's actually in my neighborhood, too. I can't go this Sunday, though. I'll be volunteering in the gardens again. :D
-
Hi. Lets get something set up guys!! NY or NJ. Summer is a comin'!!!!
-
Yep, I agree with willit... NY or NJ is fine with me too!
-
I'm up for this as well! Had hoped to host something in my old (big) apartment. But because of D now in much smaller place and can't fit many people in here. But we could meet up in Manhattan!
-
Hey,
Let's revive this meetup. Hoboken maybe?
Bird
-
Hoboken is good with me.... I happen to be free Thurs or Fri! Anyone up for a couple of drinks?
-
Currently, the only days that work for me are Wed, Sat nite or a Sun. I know it is hard to get everyone together, but let's try to put some of us together. I would be willing to try Hoboken. Red Bank is nice and they have a train station right there. So if you can get to Hoboken, you can grab a train to go.
-
Hey I am up for Hoboken or Red Bank as long as someone else does the planning! As you can tell I stink at it, I tried but to much cycling kept me from doing the job. So lets here it from the rest of the crew around here. Oh and I am free any night.
-
Anybody down for Red Bank or Hoboken TONIGHT 7/26?
-
I am banging my head against a wall cause I would love to go to Hoboken tonight but I am broke for another week! So sorry but count me out.
-
Would def do Hoboken but have tix for a lecture in city tonight!!! Can we get people together for next month? Say Wed., Aug. 8 after work? Maybe somewhere near PATH/train so people can easily get there and home?
Bird
-
Wednesdays are no good cuz I got the kids.... unless we're meeting after 9 PM>....
If so, I'm down.... just post place.
Riv- your first drink is on me brother!
-
I am IN - for a Thursday, Saturday nite or anytime on Sunday. |
Starting next week.
Hoboken is 50 miles away but I can drive.
Let me know the time and place.
-
50 miles is a doddle when you think how far xy has travelled for her LBS Link Ups!!
It'll be wonderful - I will be sure to let you all know when I hit Stateside!!
-
OP - Hoboken is also 50 miles from me, I'm an hour south, but it's all good...
Can't wait to meet y'all!
-
50 miles is a doddle when you think how far xy has travelled for her LBS Link Ups!!
True but hopefully I am not going to Hoboken for three weeks..... ;D ;D ;D
TB1 - good, then Hoboken is centrally located I guess. :) :) :)
-
I wish I could just drive on over to Hoboken right now. These Ds and my job :o :o :o :o One of these days.... and when anyone says Hoboken I like to say Mahwah! ;) Love those names....
-
Can we plan on a Sun so maybe we can meet up early afternoon and spend more time together than 2 or 3 hrs. See if we can find an event to do. I will look into Hoboken activities. I am about 45 mins south.
-
Well, I have travelled 34,232 miles to meet about 40 LBSers. That's 55,091 kilometers for my Canadian friends ;D and doesn't include meeting Still and Agape in Toronto..add another 2688 miles (4324 kilometers) for that meet up..of course...these are round trips.
Let me know when Hoboken happens..that's a hop, skip and a jump from Denver......I just keep adding LBSers to my list of favourtite people to meet.
I should have started an autograph book!
You will NEVER regret meeting other LBSers..one of the few joys that have come from this mess.
-
Learning that's a good idea. What about brunch on a Sunday late morning so those who need to drive a distance have time to get back and forth? I used to live in Boken and there's a nice waterfront park there. We could even do a picnic! I'm free most Sundays in August and September.
Bird
-
I have my kids on Sundays, but if it's a picnic, I'll bring them!!
-
Sunday August 5th works for me- date confirmation?
-
I am good for the 5th of Aug. OP, we can always plan 2 events if u can't make it until later in the month. Nothing like GALIng
-

I am good with this, let me know where in Hoboken and TIME.
-
That works for me, W is usually off but no reason I have to be here with her. Ahg 5th Where and When?
-
I'm good with next Sunday Aug 5th... just tell me time and place... I have the kids tho.
-
Ok guys, here is my suggestion. Picnic brunch in pier A park hoboken next Sunday. Kids/guests welcome! Everyone bring your own lunch and one snack or treat to share. I'll get a balloon to mark our group! Pm me if you are coming and I will send you my cell. I suggest 12 noon to whenever and people can come when they can. I'll be there till 3 for sure. Also bring a chair or blanket. Park is short walk from path, train, or bus from NYC. There is street/garage parking near park. I'll work on a rain plan! Yeah!!! Finally getting this to happen!!!

This sounds good to me!
I will be there.
When I put this in google maps it comes out at the ferry.
Is this the right place?
Edit - Never mind I see Park A just north of the ferry, it juts out into the water. :) :) :)
-
I'll be there too!
-
I have become a definite maybe. :( I have a conflict right now. If my calendar clears, I will try to be there. If not, I will try to call OP's phone and just say hello.
-
Hi all,
Pier A Park is just north of the ferry/Path/NJ transit train station. A hop, skip and jump away! There is street parking right next to park, but hard to get, although generally the earlier you arrive the better. There are also pay parking garages nearby if you can't find street parking.
I myself will be taking the NJ transit bus from port authority in manhattan. So if anyone wants to drive to port authority there is a fairly cheap large and very convenient ($20) lot on the roof. Then I can meet you in port authority and we can take the bus together. Just let me know if you are interested in this option. The bus from port authority to pier a park is 20 or 30 mins. It costs a few dollars.
Right now looks like bird (me), hobo and op confirmed. OP, any way to highlight this on board to get more metro-area lbs?
See u soon!
-
Ahhhhhhhh, I just left Ottawa, Ontario...not fair :-\
I'm green with envy. One of my most favourite things is meeting up with LBS's... have fun kids and know, I will be thinking of you all.
hugs Stayed
-
Stayed...you were in Ontario???
Where are you headed now??? LOL
-
I second Stayed's comments...meeting other LBSers is possibly the best therapy that I have ever had. So if you can find a way to get to Hoboken (I'd be there but I have other company coming ;D, you know me, any excuse to travel) try and egt out for a couple of hours to share and have fun!
-
birdsoul- please send me your cell. Any ideas on the easiest way to get there from Princeton via public transit. I live in PA but figure I will need to start off from the jersey side?
-
FTT, you are the Energizer Bunny!
I would have thought you would be happy to be home relaxing after the Continent hopping you have been doing lately.
Enjoy yourselves ladies....beware you never know when I will surprise attack you!
-
Crazyforhim, my h and I live in Luxembourg, Europe. He has worked for NATO for the last 10 years. We were home at our cottage with our 5 grown children and their spouses and their children, hehehe. We are the proud grandparents of 8 so far... 4 boys and 4 girls.
We will be home again at Christmas, but the chance of doing anything with anybody other then our children/grandchildren/siblings/ relatives is impossible and then again next summer. We will be retiring in 3 years... MAXIMUM.
I think you all should consider a EUROPEAN LBS MEETUP...my h and I would be more then happy to put another together, if people are interested.
hugs Stayed...
-
I'm in Stayed!!

FTT = Drive to Hamilton Township or New Brunswick Train Station and take the NJ Transit NE Corridor line to Newark, and then transfer to the PATH Train to Hoboken.
-
Thanks stayed...
I knew you were in Europe but also read somewhere that Canada was a home as well.
:)
-
I hope to see all of you on Sunday! Finally something to look forward to, I just hope the virus that my daughter brought home and that has struck down W now does not get me to!! I have been lucky so far. LOL
-
Hi all,
Looks like me, OP, Hobo, FTT, RivenIn2 all confirmed (or mostly so) for Sunday.
I checked the weather today and we might have some isolated thunderstorms. I'll keep an eye on this. I hope the forecast changes, but if it's going to be bad, people may not want to drive in it.
FTT, I don't know where you are in PA, but another option for you is to find early morning express bus service to NYC (such as the BOLT bus or Peter Pan, etc.) and I can meet you there and get you to Hoboken. Yes, you are going further north to go south, but it's a bit more straightforward and a bit less stressful.
Will keep checking weather and update you all.
Thanks, OP for making this meet-up more noticeable.

Gang,
I found out that a good friend was ill whilst I was away and tomorrow is a good day to visit. I´m going to bail, sorry. I also realize that Hoboken is a bit of a hike/hassle for me. Princeton is much closer.
But... keep me in the loop.
FTT
-
Yea, weather seems hot and iffy, I think the kids might be uncomfortable...
FTT - I'm very close to Princeton, we can always meet up.
Perhaps we meetup another time for a couple of drinks one night.
-
OK I am disappointed!
Was looking forward to this!
I am still ready for it.
-
Just checked weather. Looks a bit better, 87 and party cloudy. Anybody still up for this? OP?

Bird
I will be there at noon.
Just sent you all a PM
-
Great! Will try to get balloon but call me when you get there.
-
I will have to make an excuse to get away for a few hours, the W has been really sick and has been home in bed all week. I have been the good H and taken care of her and so am not sure if I can make it.
I am going to try I live close so it should not be a problem to get away for a short time.
-
Thanks OP, Bird... It was great meeting up with you guys. Let's try another one, hopefully more will join!
-
Well I hope those that did attend had a great time! I am so sorry I was not able to come, things being what they are I was just not able to get away.
The W is back to work this morning, barely, but back to work. I have a new sense of purpose, that being to teach myself to write code. It is something I always wanted to learn and it seems that coding for android is not such a difficult thing. lol
So I am taking a bunch of online courses and reading tons of developer forums. That is kind of why I am not here all day.
Hobo1 yes I would like to meet up with you all soon. So lets plan it!
-
Had a lovely time with OP and Hobo and Hobo's little ones yesterday. We found a wonderful picnic spot in Hoboken with beautiful views of NYC skyline and Hudson River boats and (most important) great riverfront breezes!
We did determine that Hoboken is a great meeting spot for NY/NJ people and there are lots of parks/restaurants there, so maybe next time we could do a brunch.
It's really great to connect with people who understand the pain and hope.
Hugs,
Bird
Edit - AGREED - :) :) :) - OLD PILOT

There is something so special about each and every LBS I have met. Each time I meet one, I return to my day to day life, feeling enriched and empowered. It is the craziest thing. Being around such brave, strong, caring people is just so uplifting.
I cannot recommend it enough!

I am a complete newbie to this forum (but reading for a while now) which I hope won't preclude me from meeting some of you soon during a next NY/NJ meet-up. I live in North NJ and work in the City.
-
plibbs- glad to have you join! Looks like we need the next one set up soon!
-
Just to add a little forwardthinking..I am planning on being in NYC January 17-21, 2013, Martin Luther King Weekend. I will be attending a weekend conferance but think I can get away perhaps for dinner one night or prior to the 17 or after the 21 but those would be week days.
For those of us who would like to meet you east coasters, sometimes it does require some planning ahead ( the European meetups certainly occurred after a few months of coordinating).
Anyway..wanting to let others know in advance and perhaps there may be people who wish to look at what this might look like..and I shall gladly assist in anyway I can ;D
-
I would also like to meet all of the NY/NJ LBS crowd.
Though I am in Chicago, S18 moves to NYC in 2 weeks to attend NYU. So, I will be in NYC on a regular basis.
-
I would love to meet you xyzcf & you also Covenant for Life, I will plan on it. Just remind me as it gets closer aand we will make plans to meet up. Anyone else interested?
-
Yes. Would love to meet up.

Ok..those of you who live in NYC area...can you start thinking about a date/place for Martin Luther weekend..the best for me would be Monday Jan 21 and possibly Sunday evening Jan 20, 2013.

-
Count me in.
Bird

Dang, I will be back in Luxembourg by Jan. 5th... but Christmas/New Years time is hopeless for me. Just too busy...
Enjoy! Hugs Stayed

What kind of a place do we want? Just a dinner spot? Or a dinner and dancing spot? Or an afterwork spot for drinks? Lots of choices in New York. :)
My vote would be a dinner and dancing type place where we can talk over a meal and then have some fun.
-
That sounds good...we dined and danced in Porto Portugal. i will not be available though until Sunday night the 20th and also on the 21st I think..I have to check out the conference agenda.
Somewhere Central, that people can get to via train or subway.
Those who live in NYC...any suggestions?
-
A weekend nite is best for me. I can host 6 people if need be. (must be okay around dogs)
I live in a nice touristy area between Philly and NYC.
-
Dancing in Porto, Portugal... omg. Do you remember MR. STINKY? Voyager is SO KIND, she finished out the dance... not me... I took one whiff and headed for our table!
These MEET UPS are amazing! Go for it peoples. hug Stayed

Shoot, I would have joined you but I can't get a babysitter that quickly.
Any possibility of another meeting/get-together before summer is over?

I'll be staying around 32nd near the Manhatten Center and will need to get to LaGuardia on the 22 really early. I am willing to travel to get to a location but will need to keep a 6 am flight in mind for Tuesday.
-
I live on upper west side and am willing to host.
-
That would be awesome!!!!!!
-
Martin Luther King Day, any chance of anybody meeting up that sat or Sunday? I would be coming from the Buffalo area and would have to be back to work on Tuesday. I would LOVE to come.
-
Others might be able to. I am in NYC all weekend but an attending a Communion and Liberation Encouter weekend that doesn't end until Sunday night. Monday is the only day I have free.
-
Bump. Anyone able to meet Sat. or Sunday of mentioned weekend?
-
I'll be there on Jan 21, 2013 ;D
-
Great. Trying to focus on something positive coming up. Hoping others can make it and that maybe someone could also meet on Sat. or Sunday as I am hoping to make a weekend of it.
-
Wondering and I are hoping to take the train up on the Mon of MLK weekend.
-
I am still planning on being there, not sure about the rest of the weekend though. Life is in flux, W might be gone by then, heck I may be gone by then! No guarantees here just good wishes. LOL

Anyone else coming too?
-
Count me in.
-
FTT, I am so glad you are coming!
-
I would need to know where and when so I can make travel arrangements. Looking forward to meeting everyone!
-
Hi all. I'm new here, but I do live in central NJ and would love to be a part of this. Please fill me in with the details.
-
See you then!!
-
I will be staying at the New Yorker Hotel
481 Eighth Avenue (at 34th Street) (next door to Manhattan Center)
There is a restaurant, diner and bar at the hotel that we can meet at if no one can come up with a better suggestion
-
Hi all,
I live 20 blocks from the hotel (in NYC terms that is not far). I'd like to suggest an option- a restaurant called Landmarc at the Time Warner Center in Columbus Circle (a quick taxi ride away from the New Yorker). It is a really large restaurant and good for big groups. I can make a reservation if we have more than 6 people coming. If anyone needs directions, transportation options let me know. I am assuming this is a dinner?
BirdSoul
-
I don't know..I was thinking that it might be earlier in the day...lunch perhaps because of the distance that people are travelling from to attend and they'll need to leave to get home that night. sounds like a good place to meet. can others please state their preferences re: dinner or lunch or other activities for the day?
-
Hi all, I was planning on lunch. Dinner would be too hard. It's a holiday and I think most of us have the day off.
-
OH - I was planning on dinner, :(
-
Maybe an early dinner. Like around 4 or 5
-

-
I have the whole day free so perhaps some of us can meet earlier in the day and then join up for dinner. From past experiences with meetups, there's always lots to talk about :)
-
I love Central Park so perhaps those who are free that day can meet in Central Park and we can walk and talk and walk some more as long as it isn't too cold.
-
I'll go along with the majority vote. I'm easy, and flexable so whatever the plans are just let me know and I will join in along the way. Don't worry I will let you all know when I will join the group so if there is any reservations required I will be included. I can be in the city in a very short time.
-
Earlier the better- gotta take a train home and feed dogs.
-
I am still planning in coming. Open to whatever is decided. My travel time is about 2 hours but whatever works for the majority is fine.
-
Well, I am up to meeting any of you early in the day. I would like to spend as much time as possible getting to know you so we can meet at the New Yorker where I am staying and then go out together to walk around the city, perhaps Central Park which is wonderful if the weather cooperates and then meet up with others for a meal later.
I have been wanting to meet several of you for a very long time so if you are free that day, I'd love to meet up in the morning and spend some time together.
-
Hi, I would love to come in as early as possible. I usually take the train around 9:20 am and can be in Penn Station around 11:30. So spending some extra time walking around etc would be great.
-
I am planning on coming on Sat. or Sun. Lokking at some hotels, but don't know which would be located closest to meet-up area...maybe someone could help guide me with location..
West 39th St.
West 29th St.
West 57th St.
West 45th
-
Also I can fly from Buffalo, or take the train, any ideas/help
LaGuardia over JFK? Then from airport into Manhattan...??
Or Train station??
-
I am staying at the new Yorker on 34 street and 8th ave right near Penn station. I will be there on the weekend but shall be completely involved in a Communion and Liberation Encounter..but am free all day Monday the 21st.
Sorry can't help with the easiest way into NYC from Boston. I think Learning is planning on arriving at 11:30 on the Monday and others not until later but I'd be free to meet you earlier at my or your hotel.
-
Would you know if any of the locations I mentioned are close to Penn Station if I come by train?
Would you, or anyone on here, know if LaGuardia is the better choice if I fly?
If I fly (from Buffalo NY), is it difficult to get from the airport to Manhattan?
Thanks, the last time I was in NYC my husband took care of logistics ::)
-
LaGuardia is the closest airport to Manhattan. JFK is far away - located on the SE edge of Queens and close to Long Island. We always fly into LaGuardia and then take a taxi into Mid-Town Manhattan. If you take a train/Amtrak, it is likely to drop you off at Penn Station, which is by Madison Square Garden, the Empire State Building, and the original Macy's.
Hotel Locations: Mid-town is considered to be from about 34th Street up to the south edge of Central Park at around 59th Street.
Avenues run North/South and streets run East/West. My son lives in Manhattan (attends New York University) and we have vacationed there many times. It is easy to get around on the Subway.
If you tell me what avenues these hotels run between, I can give you a better idea of what neighborhood they are located in.
-
Hey all you wild and crazy people! (Sorry I am a child of the 70's and Saturday Night Live)...Hearttoheart and I are planning on going to 8 am mass at St. Patrick's Cathedral on Monday January 21 and then breakfast and then perhaps a walk through Central Park. She is looking at taking a train back on Monday afternoon around 5 pm.
If anyone wants to join us at any point in this morning, let me know.
I Know OP has said he can only make it for dinner but some people are going to have to leave earlier if they have a distance to drive. So, I am not sure how to handle that.
OK..the following people have expressed interest:
Covenant for Life
Riven
Will it Get better
firecracker
Hobo1
Birdsoul
OldPilot
Forthetrees
Learning I am ok
Alwaysthere
Misdiz
Wondering
Hearttoheart
xyzcf
That's 14 people!!!!! I think what worked in the European meetups was that there was a gropu created with people's email addresses to be able to send updates and ideas back and forth, perhaps even telephone numbers. I am going to copy this and send it to the people on the list and shall take the responsibility of crrating an email group. Please also let me know what time you will be in the city for so we can arrange separate activities if needed.
Anyone else want to join in, please let me know.
-
I am planning on attending also. Thanks.
-
Sounds great, I plan on attending too!
-
Anyone traveling to NYC from the Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse area? I am halfway between Buffalo and Rochester.
-
23 days until the NYC Meetup and we have 11 confirmed participants:
Willitgetbetter
Hobo 1
Birdsoul
Old Pilot
Forthetrees
LearningIamok
Alwaysthere
Brokenhearted
Wondering
Hearttoheart
XYZCF
I still need some information for you and others who may wish to attend. (even if you are not sure, PM me with the following so that I can keep you in the loop):
Your actual name, contact telephone number, email address and the time that you think you'll have to spend in the city.
Some people will be there all day, others for parts so I am trying to coordinate where we might meet up for lunch, dinner. Hearttoheart and I shall attend 8 am mass at St. Patrick's and if the weather permits, I think strolling in Central Park will be a great way to spend some time and talk.
Does anyone have any ideas for a meeting place for lunch and dinner? I shall have a room at a hotel which I will inform you of in an email...we can meet there for lunch ..it is near Penn Station so that might work.
In my experience at other LBS meetups, we will be chatting away, laughing and being in companionship with one another so being able to be in a certain place that is conducive to that is beneficial.
23 days and counting...cannot wait to see you all!
-
Riven is also planning on joining the group. I have sent details for the day's "activities" with individual's contact numbers to each of you have expressed interest in attending. If anyone else wishes to join us, please PM me and I'll add you to the loop.
-
Oh Man... I really envy you guys... ENJOY!! Xyzcf is so right, needs to be a place where you won't be disturbing anybody else because the discussions get really lively and animated. Great, great fun!
Enjoy... Stayed
-
Confirmed for dinner at 5 PM: Old Pilot, Hobo 1, xyzcf and birdsoul.
Hearttoheart will be with us from 7am until 4pm or so. She cannot make dinner.
Please let me know what your plans are so that I can make a reservation.
If anyone is seeing this for the first time, or your situation has changed, PM me if you are interested in meeting up on Monday Jan 21, 2013 (Martin Luther King Day) from 7am until ??????
in New York City..the BUG APPLE!
Looking forward to seeing you all!

xyz
I wanted to tell you I am soooo sorry I won't be there. I'm only a 4 hour drive south of NYC but I'll be on the first day of a Caribbean cruise (first ever cruise for me!) on Monday. If it wasn't for that, believe me, I would have made my way up.
I know you'll all have a wonderful time. I'll be thinking of all of you on Monday!

Which restaurant are you planning on for dinner? Your hotel is close to Penn Station. There are 2 different Landmarc restaurants. I am planning on dinner as is Forthetrees. We are trying to figure out transportation. I am not sure what Wondering wants to do. I will hopefully be in touch with both of them tonight. Also, are you planning on lunch at your hotel which will also be a consideration for transportation. I may drive into the city.
-
Hobo- any interest in trying to carpool with me and Learning and possibly Wondering?
-
Thanks ftt, but I'm going to hang out with my sister in northern jersey that weekend, so I'll just meet you guys.
Thanks again
-
I have sent the information to you all via email. Please let me know if you have any questions or you did not receive it.
-
Sorry I wasn't able to make it. Hope the meet-up was fabulous!
-
Me too, Really sorry I couldn't make it. Unfortunately I got sick again. On my way to the doctor now.. Couple weeks ago the Flu, this time sinus infection. 2013 is not starting out as the healthiest for me. :(
-
Sorry to hear you aren't feeling well wondering. I haven't felt well since we returned from Canada on the 5th. of January. Like you, a cold, then the flu, now, just tired. I am thinking it is that "lack of sun" thing... I feel like slitting my wrists, hehehehehe... just kidding... but I am not my usually bubbly self either.
Get well and from what Learning said on her thread, sounds like you guys had a FABULOUS time...
hugs Stayed
-
Wondering, you were missed. I hope you will be on the mend and we can meet up next Sun. We had a blast, but it was a treacherous drive home on black ice. Poor FTT didn't get home until 12am from my house. UGH!
More meet ups with everyone! I love being in your company!
-
I am sorry I couldn't make it but such is life.
Please include me next time and I will kidnap Mama Bear from the hospital and drag her along!
Glad you all enjoyed the time together.
-
AT, great plan. Put her in a sack and carry her out of the pharmacy. Then send a picture with a ransom note to her H. Should incite some wild texting from him.
-
It was lovely to meet and see everyone who attended! What a great day. Thanks for your friendship and let's do it again soon!
Hugs,
Bird
-
Each time I meet you live and in person I am awed by how great each one of you are. How intelligent, kind, empathetic and strong...it was wonderful to spend time together and for anyone who is leary of meeting other LBSers, I can promise you much laughter and a feeling of being understood that just doesn't happen in many other situations.
Sorry the ride home was treacherous but glad you made it home safely.
Love to all of you!
-
XYZ, thank you for coordinating such a wonderful time. It is uplifting. I have to say that you are right, it is always a fun time and although tragedy caused our interaction, the meet ups are filled with love and laughter.
We LBSers ROCK!
-
It was great meeting you guys!! It's so nice to put a face to a post. Maybe next time we'll have an even larger turn out. All the best.
