Hello everyone,
I hope this post finds everyone getting used to writing 2012 .So with the New Year, New Start for us all in mind, I thought it would be a great time to cheer us all up from the January blues with thoughts of May....
That's when I was hoping to organise the next LBS Meet-up and everyone is cordially invited.
As an extra special bonus we have XY coming over so Voyager and I thought that we would have a Northern Meet-up in the wonderful City of Leeds to say Hi to her.
Now for me, a Lancashire Lass to say the wonderful City of Leeds is an event in itself...but seriously Leeds is a vibrant City, with great shopping and lots to do and see. For now I would like to find out who is interested in joining us on the weekend of Friday/Saturday/ Sunday 18th/19th/20th May 2012.
As I said this meeting is opened to all our Forum LBS's International, European and UK-wide, so please let me know if you would like to come and I can start to put the wheels in motion.
In order to get things organised our end I would ask that people let me know by the end of February and as its a leap year you have an extra day for free :)

Thanks Foxberry for taking on the organization of this. I am so looking forward to meeting you, new friends and some old ones!
this will be my third meet up in Europe and one in California.....when I went to Luxembourg last year, I thought "I must be crazy"....."who are these people????"....my daughter and friends were actually concerned that I was going to be kidnapped or something. I thought it will probably be morose and sad and tearful.
What I found was an immediate connection, people who knew what this felt like, people who showed so much love and caring and concern for one another.....lots of fun times, lots of laughter...
It was for me a changing point in all of this...I came home knowing, truly knowing that I would be ok..and if I wasn't, Stayed was going to pester me to death until I was.
So, I just wanted to send out my 2 cents worth for some of you who may be hesitant...meeting other LBSers has been better than any therapy I have tried.....hope you are all having some good moments today.
That's what will get you through this..you start to have a few good moments and then more and more..and yes it still hurts but it does truly get better.

Omg I nearly peed with excitement when I saw this I am only about an hour and a half away from Leeds. Do we have to come on our own though I was thinking maybe if my sister could come with me I am so not used to going anywhere I dont know on my own I will understand if that would be a problem.

Just a thought ... as well as the shops and restaurants in Leeds there is a wealth of culture! http://www.leeds.gov.uk/citymuseum/ ... this place is interesting, is in the centre of Leeds and is free admission, also has a coffee shop/cafe! (just cos some men may be put off by the thought of shops!)

Also, for safety reasons for some LBSers....I think that Stayed created or perhaps it was Bewildered a separate spreadsheet with our personal emails/telephone numbers and it was through that, that we were notified details concerning hotels etc.
Can I do anything to help? Please let me know. Suggest that we reserve for dinners since we shall be a large group it seems :)
Also, there are some lbsers from the past, I don't see them on here much anymore and perhas you are already in contact with some of them but I would be happy to contact them individually in case they haven't seen this.
So..my fellow North Americans......our European friends have been getting together and sharing quite a number of times....I thin k it is also time to plan something for North America...I know the distances are great...Colorado just might be the most central.....although there are quite a few of you on the east coast....something in July perhaps? Let me know.

AS far as I know Foxberry, I am available. Would be delightful to see many again and meet some news ones as well. These EVENTS are the best THERAPY in the world. Nobody should miss it, unless they absolutely cannot.

I just looked up the national holidays here in Luxembourg and as luck would have it, the 17/18th. are Ascension Days. That means hubby will be off for a nice long weekend, therefore I will be unable to attend this Meet UP.

I live 55 miles from Leeds - so if anyone is thinking they don't have the cash to stay in a hotel I have 4 spare bedrooms if anyone wants to crash over and I'll drive to the big meet up! I do a good breakfast.......
These get togethers are so therapeutic and healing.

Help...does anyone know the easiest way for me to get from Heathrow to Leeds. I am arriving from Athens on Sunday May 13 and am going to spend some time with my partner in crime Voyager before the meet up...crazily, there doesn't seem to be any reasonable flights...all the flights take me into Brussels first! and they are outrageously expensive...looking like the train is the best bet I guess.
I am soooooo looking forward to meeting you, some for a second time or perhaps even a third time, some for the first time. It will be as usual the best therapy in the world!

Train would definitely be your best option Xyzcf. The train station is right there in the airport, so it is simply pick up your bags and go to the station and buy your ticket, lots of signs indicating the way. I expect Voyager will meet you at the station in her town.

Final call for the Leeds Meetup....... we have booked the A Hotel for lunch on Saturday 19th May meeting at 1.30 and we have a private room there until 5.30pm. I will pm a link to
A hotel to anyone who requests. It is a short walk from the train station.
Please could we have a final confirmation from everyone who has expressed an interest, how many nights you are staying, if any, and where.
I am acting as Foxberry's not so glamorous assistant with this so please could you pm me.
Once we have a final idea of numbers for Friday night Saturday lunch and Saturday night we can plan other meals etc.

I just wanted to thank Voyager for helping me with this Event...I was doing well until recently when I had a couple of setbacks...not to worry my oh so "glamourous" assistant has rushed to my side as always - where would I be without her ;D
Please let Voyager know as soon as you can if you are coming....I will be staying with Chrysalis on Friday and Saturday at the Hotel in Leeds where most of us are staying together with the another fantastic choice! and am so looking forward to meeting my friends and as Voyager says - making new ones!
The A Hotel looks great and a cosy venue - great choice Voyager ;)
Hyperglad, that's ok don't worry! As long as you let Voyager or me know whether you are defininately coming and Niff Naff too, then Voyager can book for everyone....

Foxberry & Voyager have arranged this for the weekend of May the 18th - 20th. It is Leeds and some are staying over in a hotel, others are just travelling on the day and there are lunches and meals/get togethers arranged.
You are very early in this process and meeting other people in my situation helped me enormously.

Hi ... thanks for the messages ... as long as all goes to plan, I will arrive in Leeds at around 3pm and will make my way from the station to the hotel ... and find the upstairs lounge. I will recognise you xyz as I have seen your photo a few times on the alt.

Just popped in to pen how much I enjoyed the weekend, seeing old friends, and making new ones, I always arrive and leave with bitter sweet thoughts, about the time ahead, and on leaving the time spent together, I love the short time we all share, the laughter, the optimism, but I find it incredible sad that there are so many broken souls. Many are healing, all at different speeds but nevertheless healing which is good, but so sad they had to be hurt. I miss everyone very much once I arrive home, but know I will not have the wait a long time till we meet again, old and new alike.

Hello to new friends. Thank you for this weekend. Given that the life circumstances that brought us together are pretty much the worst anyone could ever have to go through it was uplifting to see all the smiles and laughter and optimism.
I enjoyed chatting. Thank you to everyone who shared their story. Each account had the script that we are sadly only too familiar with, but equally, each was unique. I left with more insight into this crazy thing we call mid-life than when I arrived.
Particularly funny was when the guy serving the food in the pub Saturday lunchtime asked the group, "you sound like you have come from all over the world, what brings you all together?" How do you even begin to answer that one? ;D
The get-together was fun and one of the more light-hearted moments of my past twenty months. I can truthfully say it's the first time I've been the token male out to dinner with twenty women.
Thank you to Foxberry and Voyager for putting it together.

Not just the story of our individual situations but to see how we are all navigating our way through with grace, dignity and humour...that's a testament to us as LBS.

Just wanted to add my thanks to Foxberry & Voyager for organising the weekend and to everyone there on Saturday afternoon.
It was great to share experiences and feel that you're not alone (more than an internet forum alone can do); especially when others' experiences and stories are so uncannily similar it defies belief!
I'm sure an outsider (or even MLCers themselves! :-\ ) would imagine events like these would be morose with everyone crying into their beer/wine, but it was quite the opposite.

I just wanted to add my thanks to Foxberry and Voyager and anyone else who had a hand in organising a great weekend. I'll admit that I was wary and didn't know what to expect but I met a great bunch of kind, interesting, funny and compassionate people and had a really great time. As xyzcf said on another post, meeting up with other LBS's really is the best therapy.
Of course, if my D14 says she if off for the weekend to meet up with people she has been chatting with on the internet I will absolutely forbid it!! ;) ;)

A belated thank you to Foxberry, Voyager and anyone else involved in organising the meetup in Leeds.

I also want to say thank you to everyone who helped with the organisation of the meetup in Leeds and to say how much I enjoyed myself. It was great meeting 'old' friends again and having the opportunity to make new friends. We may be dealing with something horrible in our lives, yet we still have the capacity to want to help others as well as the good sense to know we can't get through this on our own. A great bunch of people and my overriding memory of the weekend is how much we laughed.
As Voyager said, with a straight face when asked by the pub landlord what was bringing us all together, we are a 'Special Interest Group'.
I don't know how she kept a straight face as even now when I think about it I start grinning. It is true as we are special, we have a specialist topic and and we chose to be part of a group. I bet the landlord is still trying to work it out.

Having read the Posts I'm so pleased that everyone enjoyed themselves albeit on different levels...that is what makes "The Special Interest Group" that Voyager spoke about! so special :) I am sure the pub landlord will be bemused for a long time at the eclectic mix of people that were in that upstairs room.... The weather was kind and didn't rain and the Hotel where we stayed was fab....the Overground, Underground Festival in the Arches was an added bonus!
So I hope everyone found what we are all looking for during the weekend and that is friendship and a feeling that someone else understands .... Meeting up with old friends was a joy and meeting up with new friends was exciting...

I just got the most WONDERFUL surprise in the mail today. I received a letter from the Netherlands. Thinking it was from my friend Dragonfly... I eagerly opened it.
You guys are just too much. It made me CRY you guys. You know I never cry. Thank you so much for thinking of ME while you were all having such a good time. I am touched beyond belief.
To see that you all understand how much I care about all the LBS's is so gratifying. I can't bare for anybody to hurt for ONE SECOND longer then they need to. You people are the success stories. You have taken a terrible situation and used it to turn yourselves into some of the finest, most wonderful, beautiful people on the planet.
I hated every minute of this experience, but I am LOVING watching people like you all, finding and living up to your FULL potential. It may not have been the way we would have chosen to get there, but we sure didn't waste the opportunity when it presented itself.
Love you all, more then you will ever realize... and I AM SO PROUD to know people like you.

Hello fellow 'Leeders'. Sorry not to have posted all week. I have been having problems with my computer. I just wanted to say what an absolute pleasure it was to reunite with some old friends and meet some new friends at our get together in Leeds last weekend. It never ceases to amaze me how much strength, courage and resilience us MLC survivors have.
We are a unique set of individuals (a specialist group!) who never quite accepted that our marriages/partnerships just broke down. We all went in search of answers and found the Forum and each other.
I am now over 2 years since BD (April 2010) but am still amazed and in awe of how each of us is handling this 'season' in our lives. We have all learned and grown as individuals because of this experience.
Just to update all of you who I met, I have been accepted by the college to begin my counsellor training in September. I have no doubt that I will use my experience of MLC to help others some time in the future.
Thanks to all who organised the event in Leeds - as always, I am eternally grateful to have meet such inspiring people.
