Is any one else watching the program now? Do you see any similarities? Is it just me? he was in denial for so long...
Edit - Topic type
-
Not watching the program but I woke up and, somehow, I thought about Lance Armstrong. Mainly, I think, because my mind was putting in order some drugs related issues and how they work on the human body (will write about it on my thread tomorrow or so).
Think Lance taking so long had more to do with money and the sports worlds. It is a big blow to cyclism. Big money is invested in it, big victories were achieved and, in the end, it was all an hoax. The drugs did it, not the cyclist.
We don't know if he was in denial because he wanted to be or if he was pressured not to speak/come clean. And I kind of get it, he had won all those medals. The whole world was aware of it, now he needs to say to hundres of millions he was on drugs. Kind of tough.

I was just reading the article on CNN about this, and I actually hope it reaches my MLCer (good luck, I know). He was a big Lance Armstrong fan and would watch the Tour every year after he got into cycling (maybe his cowboy persona isn't as into it?). In the article Lance talks about needing to come clean and reach out to all of the people he's wronged. Very MLC-ish. He admits to being a bully and going after people so recklessly. It's hard to see any good in him, really. I'm sad the Livestrong organization is going to suffer for this, as they helped a lot of people.
Just a note - his marriage broke up due to infidelity (I'm not sure if that was when he and Sheryl Crow got together, but I'm thinking it was). So, lots of great points to this one. ::) Anne, do you think his testicular cancer might have caused a drop in testosterone that lead to some of these behaviors? He was like a good guy gone very, very bad so quickly. Like he had no conscience. It was the first thing that ran through my head...except, maybe he was just a JERK. :)
-
He went throught a lot, that is for sure. The cancer, the drugs, the hardship of win the Tour (with or without drugs it is the big world race).
It is possible, Ready2. Testicular cancer could had caused severe testosterone alterations. Add to it the drugs he had taken and we have a perfect storm, don't we? I wouldn't doubt if the drugs he took would made in horny and cheating. Tiger Woods and other high profile sports men have cheated. High doses of adrenaline makes you competitive but also horny and, I think, a bit delusional.
I have a collection of articles from musicians, actors, writers, sport people, etc, who all had been through crisis. Being it drugs or drink related, MLC, depressions, or others. Every single one of those people, once they manage to overcome whatever was trapping them on the darkness all say they want to come clean and reach out to all the people they have wronged.
From some reason I keep coming across those articles since a couple of years ago.
-
I just watched a small clip of the interview. It says he is now 41.
He also said that he had testosterone injections, in the mix.
-
Frankly I plan to watch the second half of the Oprah Show on Lance Armstrng tomorrow nigh. I think there will be more revelations to come. Maybe if more LBS watch it and can add to the comments, the will more discussions about: the delusions, self talk, bending of the truth, denials, rewriting of history, etc. He at times seems quite sincere. Like you. I wish my h would have watched it. Who knows if he did. If he did maybe he still won't see any "similarities".
-
I predict if he did see it he will probably be personally offended that he had defended him all that time, and then snubbed because he didn't get a personal apology! ;D
-
This summer I was trying to explain to the kids [22] what is wrong with performance-enhancing drugs--why don't we just let everyone do them so its all equal? I said that we would end up with gladiators, athletes would kill themselves trying to win.
Then the facts started to really come out about Armstrong. His cancer was likely caused by the drugs--I'd assumed he took drugs because it was impossible to make a comeback without help. But the cocktail of drugs & hormones that, according to cyclists I know, most competitive cyclists take--very likely brought on the cancer; I think the testosterone was blamed.
In the long run, it's unfortunate for Armstrong but might help educate young athletes & certainly the sports world will have to take drugging more seriously. Even the announcers always said Armstrong's rides were unbelievable, impossible, incredible--they were right.
No telling if Armstrong was in mlc--he was drugged, then ill then king--he has probably had no 'normal' since adolescence. I don't think most famous people are playing by the same rules. But having said that, I am certain Johnny Depp is having a midlife crisis. I saw him on some tv show months ago--playing with a band [Black Keys] & he looked embarrassed being there. I knew looking at him he was in mlc--altho his eyes were hidden!

This does not surprise me - when you choose to put a cocktail like that inside yourself for that long - it has to affect your body on so many levels.
-
Did anyone watch the clip of Charlie Sheens interview, well worth it, could probably google it.
I dont know when it was off but I just watched it the other day and looked at a few photographs of him, his eyes looked very familiar lol.
Havent been following Lance Armstrong will have to take a look.

I think so too. The 49-year-old actor cheated on his wife of 14 years with his 27-year-old private flight attendant:

Good discussion so far!
I might have to see if that show is on hulu. :) :)

It's that "I'll show them" attitude that sinks their ship. :(
Nothing is ever good enough. External things will be the answer... :o :o Uh Oh Maybe not.
Those drugs like epoetin they use can cause tumors in cancer patients to grow bigger and more numerous. There's even a special consent form for the cancer pt.
Too bad when you're famous the whole world watches as you "reap what you have sown" :-[

Just saw this and it really brought tears to me this morning. He screwed up royally bad and lost more than most of us will ever make, but is willing to do anything to get his ex-W and family back. And the best part is she's considering and feels he is genuine. Fairy tale in the making?

Now she is said to feel the new deal, worth more than half of Woods’ $600 million, would be enough to keep him from cheating again.
I dont think she understands MLC.
I think he is still in REPLAY, but what do I know.
-
I think this is something positive to see. He and Lance Armstrong seem to be coming to their senses, so perhaps our spouses will too! Thanks Thundaar for sharing this !
-
I didn't read the article yet but did he "break his silence and speak to his W for the first time?" ;)
On Sundays when I watch some golf for the last few years he did look very very depressed. $600 million didn't help I guess. ::)
-
Athletes do play by different rules as their upbringings are usually quite different than the norm, but universal truths still apply to them as well. He screwed up and apparently the guilt over it became too much and he decided to admit to what he had done. All those years of hearing sportscasters say his success was because his heart was literally bigger than most people's is hilarious now. He took the easy road and left his morals by the curb. I do kind of wonder if he may have come clean just to get his name back in the headlines. Celebs have been known to be addicted to fame, and the old saying about there being no such thing as bad publicity comes to mind.
That being said, will I no longer be able to use the term "Cycling like Lance Armstrong" to describe myself? Perhaps I will need to change it to "Cycling like Lance Armstrong on drugs" to be more accurate.....

What makes you think that Tiger Woods had an MLC?
Could he not just be a serial cheater?
An MLC affair is about having an emotional bond with the OW. I don't think that this was the case with Tiger and his many, many women.
I also think he was sorry (not remorseful) the minute he got caught.
So is this encouraging? It does show that he has been unable to stop wanting his wife back, but remember she was the one who walked away, with good reason.
The man has more money than he knows what to do with, so a promise of millions is not any guarantee that he won't do it again.
Is he still in Replay? No. I don't think he's had an MLC. I just think he is a serial sex addict and cheater whose ego was so incredibly large that he thought he'd never get caught.
He and Arnold should do a book tour.

I dont know whether he is a serial cheater or not but if you have a wife like Elin Nordegren and cheat you are an IDIOT.
So does that make all serial cheaters idiots?

OP, I would have to say that at least most if not all of the male MLCers are idiots for betraying the wonderful ladies here! They may say that about the female MLCers as well but I will leave that to them.

Why is that, OP? Because she is beautiful?
Sorry, but this sounds a bit superficial to me. ;)
She may have put too many cheeses in her lasagne.

I have to say that I would be very interested in his ex-wife and girlfriend's perspective on all of this! How shallow and deluded was his life and his behaviour?? I'd guess there will be gagging orders in place!
It is so very sad that his actions have wrought such havoc on athletes lives - competitors losing to cheats will never have the moment back again.

Point taken!
Thudarr you are correct too.
Trying to make sense of something that makes no sense is not my forte.
For everything that I have learned and understand, cheating, MLC and , mental illness make no sense.
Extra cheese in the lasagne, well I could live with that. :) :) :)

I thought the "extra cheese in her lasagna" was some kind of euphemism or something......
-
Offering money to not cheat again? I would find this a slap in the face...my loyalty can't be bought
no matter what the price. Real loyalty and love is priceless! And comes from deep within one's
character.
I don't think we know if Tiger was remorseful or just sorry. We haven't seen how he's treated
his wife (ex) in the time since his affairs became public. It's possible he's had an internal conversion
I'm all about redemption and second chances if they are real....
-
Hopefully he is genuine. Remorse is a good thing. :)
My personal opinion is that Tiger Woods is not having an MLC. He has just been behaving badly - fame has a way of doing that to people. I think true MLCs are rare.
-
I think he did have MLC. I think he has/had a lot of daddy issues! making Daddy happy etc
And from afar before this hit the scandal sheets it appeared he had a good core person underneath. Time will tell. :P
He may have been suffering from "too much too soon" it's the child who opens all his Christmas presents and then says "Is that all?" ???
-
Whatever - I read it that she is considering getting back together with Tiger, but only if he includes a $350 million anti cheating clause.
Seems that that idea came from her, not him.
-
I like that clause...I should have thought of that before I got back together with my H ;D Of course I don't think my H has $350 million.
-
Don’t think Tiger Wood had a MLC. He just cheated a lot. Fame, running adrenaline, lots of money and bad behaviour. Not everyone that cheats and wants back is having a MLC.
Smart her. If I ever was going to take a guy like Woods back I would have that cheating clause with a huge amount of money as well. Even if I don’t know why she wants him back. Prestige and more money because she is Tiger Wood's wife?...
-
I like that clause...I should have thought of that before I got back together with my H ;D Of course I don't think my H has $350 million.
My dad brought this up to me earlier, and though the chances of Hoss even having $350 at this point seems like a pipe dream, if he ever does come out of MLC and want to reconcile, I might have an "adultery clause" document drawn up about any mutual debt we may still be carrying at the time of reconciliation defaulting to him under certain circumstances. Weird, yep, but enough to scare 'em? ;)
-
Oh yes, and adultery clause is for certain as far as I'm concerned. And it will say in case of such thing all my expenses and needs will be covered. And I'm not shy of putting and amount to it as well.
That is the thing, after this stuff they no longer have our full trust and we're not the innocent people we were.
-
I LOVE the idea of making the cheating spouse pay all the joint debt if they are caughting cheatig again. ;D
-
She's a smart woman - and definitely something for us all to consider.
Wondering - I'm sure you could come to some sort of an agreement retrospectively ;)
-
I LOVE the idea of making the cheating spouse pay all the joint debt if they are caughting cheatig again. ;D
I like that as well and I think it is possible to arrange some clause like that.
-
If I had to guess, I doubt Tiger had a midlife crisis. He evidently had multiple partners, but that is not symptomatic of MLC. I don't think Tiger was trying to leave his marriage.
I don't think Tiger had MLC any more than I think Magic Johnson did.
-
Regardless of the reason for Tiger's infidelities.... he still "affaired down". I don't think he was trying to leave his marrige MLC style either... he just liked the ATTENTION he got from the extra women.... at home, he still had to take out the trash. I think Men are often insecure about what their wives think of them... after all, we see their dirty underwear... their stupid habits, etc. OW on the side only see "Mr. Perfect Hero" and even my husband's ow must have thought he had money in the beginning... after all, he traveled the country on busines... had an Amex card to take her out to dinner on.... was able to support a family PLUS a girlfriend, hahahaha!! He was available to "fix" her life, but in the end, all he does is CRITICIZE her for "not having a pot to piss in" and for lying to him about her salary, etc.
So, back to Tiger Woods..... once Elin divorced him, he was "available" and probably partied plenty, and there were plenty of women to fawn all over him... BUT, who do you turn to when you want to have a REAL conversation? That's right.... a REAL woman who used to love you, flaws and all.... not someone who loves your for your fame or money!! Also, once they were divorced Elin held ALL the cards.... after all, she has the kids not to mention PUBLIC OPINION in support of her!!! So, what if she decided to "test" Tiger's sincerity... you know... like "Well, this all sounds so romantic and all, but what are YOU willing to do for ME, to prove the alley cat behavior is over????" and perhaps naming an outrageous price... well, you know men don't like handing over their money now do they???? Perhaps, if it was her idea... the amount would be enough to effectively ruin him financially, ya know? Or maybe (if it was her idea) she felt she needed to make this demand so the public would support her if she took him back?
-
Tiger and Obama played golf together on Sunday in Florida.
-
My initial reaction was of hope. I hope Tiger has changed internally. If he is really sincere and she can forgive, it may have a big impact on forgiveness and second chances as it is such a high profile couple.
-
I thought he was with Lindsey Vonn.
-
Thats interesting.... :)
