I have spent the last month redesigning the main site. It may appear minor to you--I've gone from two side columns to only one on the right and I've created new side widgets and the home page now has a giant blog subscriber opt-in instead of the main header. But it's been a lot of work on my end and I did it!!! YAY :D 8)
I just got all the pages uploaded late this evening and am going through each to check for problems. I've fixed a few and some are more widespread and I'll fix those as a group tomorrow and throughout next week if it takes that long. Several images are kinda wonky. :o
If you happen to notice something is off--like the wrong content--an article not matching the url or a link going to the wrong place, just let me know. I'm going to check on the wonky images tomorrow and I am going to change some of the adsense columns because the articles are short and the columns make the page longer.
I am totally excited about this new design though. I added a new forum widget that links directly to our registration page. I'm hoping to increase conversions to both the blog and forum with all the new opt-ins. The my-story page and main page now have a bunch of blog opt-in forms and I've put an opt-in at the bottom of each article. It may be a bit intrusive :P but subscriptions are proof of readership for interesting publishing agents!
Eventually I'll add similar widgets to the blog, but I don't know if I can duplicate the forum widget because I had to code it specially for the main site and it I can't copy the code directly.
Some of the images--that I did not change--are not coming through right now, but I think that may simply be because I uploaded something 170 pages and it has to go through all of them and that may take time for all the changes to show up.
But woo hoo, the main work is complete!

Hey RCR, I just have one question and it's actually off-topic. Is your H's screen-name actually Rollercoasterdriver? If so, that just made my night. ;D

He's never actually been on, but yes it is. I created it for him with his permission with the idea that maybe he would come answer questions.
Well he never did. But I just set up an ask me form and without telling him ;D I added an ask the MLCer section,. He knows now because he got a question within the first 12 hours, but we will see if he answers or not.

RCR...you are AWESOME!!!!!! Thank you for taking the time to make Heros even greater and better than ever!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

The new site design is eye-catching, but I have to admit I miss the bit where it said "dealing with mlc and infidelity when you don't want a divorce". Somehow that seemed to distinguish it from the many other sites.
Am I making sense? Sometimes I feel that one thing that really has gone during H's crisis are my powers of expression.

I love it! And I love most that your face is on the main page. Your research and you have a unique point of view within the MLC world, which is the benefit of this site over others that might bring MLC up, but not deal with it specifically in such a deep, focused way. I had long hoped that your branding would include YOU at the forefront to reflect that. :)

RCR my Ds now say "RCR is a genius!"
every time we see the script! Must have picked it up from me! ;)
Now we are looking for 'wonky' images ???
The last 2.5 years has been a wonky image.... ::)
Super!! Congrats!! Woo-Hoo! It's Miller Time! :o

Don't worry, it says that on every single page with the exception of the homepage which is the only page to have the large feature box.

I confess I found the previous design more appealing and prefer the menu on the left rather than on the right, where it is now. But certainly is eye catching.

I did notice the new design and I like it. Even just for a fresh change.
I hope your H will consider responding as it really does help the LBS to understand. I found the responses and posts by the exMLCer on Jim Conway's site very helpful.
Thank you for all the effort you put into this.

Looks amazing RCR! Well done in keeping the page fresh. :)
I like that you used a quote from a forum member. Since you are looking for more people to subscribe, perhaps having a testimonial page would help encourage and inspire people to join?
Just a thought :)

Duthla, Testimonials page Hmmm?
I testify that my lunatic is running around trying on a new life and following a super scary script!
It is great news that after 26 months he now says "I deserve this. It's ALL my fault." As opposed to "Mama Bear This is all your fault!! If you loved me you would never plan a beach vacation when I like snow." :o Like that kinda testimonial ??? lol sorry I couldn't help it. ;)

Ha! ;D
You're funny RCR!
I'm sure you know what I mean. Member testamonials as to how this forum has helped them so much. It's great that your "plug" is so sincere. As a "consumer", people are interested to hear what other "consumer" experiences are before signing up.
Hope you see your numbers go up UP UP and you reach your goal of publishing your book.
I'd buy it for sure!

Way to go RCR!!! Love it and very eye catchy! :) :)
-
I like it too! ;D
I like your picture on it, I always like to see people's faces.
Congratulations.

Looks Wonderful and so glad all your hard work paid off :)
Can't wait til I have more time to read through.
Congratulations!

I don't know why--as I'm really not a private person--but I've always been nervous about putting my face out there! It was a few years before I put general pictures on the my story page. Though the meditation avatar on the header is me; I recreated it from a photo of me preparing for a triathlon. Chuck was sitting next to me in the photo so I cut him out! :P
I like that you used a quote from a forum member.
Isn't that cool? I've joined a class to help me learn some more marketing for the blog--which is why I did the redesign. One of the first things was to learn about the feature box and the little testimonial was discussed. That was actually not even from the forum. Before I started the forum I did have a public contact me page and people would then send me stuff like that occasionally. I also found a bunch of similar things around the web where people were on other forum recommending my site and so I collected a bunch together and I use them in my book proposal.
Since you are looking for more people to subscribe, perhaps having a testimonial page would help encourage and inspire people to join?
And here's why I haven't yet--it's a dumb reason. :o
I hate to ask for stuff like that. ::) Silly huh? So silly I am laughing at myself as I type this.
And one other reason: I did 8 minute abs every day for a day and I lost 30lbs...that sort of thing. Chuck was a fitness major in college an apparently they even went over testimonials in class--how they are bad. And frankly, I agree with him for what they were talking about. So we both have a bias and we have to step back and understand that a testimonial is Word of Mouth and not always or even usually bad--it's a good thing!
So I have thought of starting a page and I've been getting more serious about it for a few months. If I do, maybe the actual page will be on the blog so the testimonials will be the comments.

Hi again,
Just commenting on the testimonials thing -- I think discreet ones are best; on many other sites they "scream", and again, doing it discreetly distinguishes this site from those that promise things they can't deliver.
-
I noticed the new layout and I like it too and the fact that your picture is there :)
-
Okay... I did it.
I need a little emoticon where the face is peeking out from behind hands with uncertainty because I'm feeling kind of tentative. But I created a testimonials page. I've been a bit annoyed that the header nav bar at the blog recently started spilling to a 2nd line--I increased the font and could not decrease the header font while keeping the main font larger--which is something I can do at the main site.
So I needed to remove one option and so what I did was removed the blog article list and instead stuck a link to it at the top of the main article list. So the testimonials are now available through a button on the nav bar. I've added it to the main site also--and I may need to shrink the size, but it takes 20-60 minutes for the change to come through and so I don't yet know how it will look. But the page itself is at the blog so that all people need to do is leave a comment.
