Right brained people and MLC !
http://www.arlenetaylor.org/guest-articles/779-calling-all-right-brain-misfits
Right brained people are huge minority ! Western civilization is based on majority, left brained people.
Are Your MLCer right brained ? Mine is ! 100 % of ADD are right brained !
Interesting article about coping with MLC
http://voices.yahoo.com/tips-coping-mid-life-crisis-7458732.html?cat=5
Will be interesting here to put pull, how much of us are right brained, how much left brained.
-
OK, when I have finished updating on the forum, I shall do the test!
Thanks Albatross, another interesting angle to this nightmarish labyrinth that MLC is!
-
One test showed left, the other right! Hahaha …
-
First test - left handed
Second test Left Brain55% Right Brain 45% ;D
-
Oh dear am a minority! But only slightly. 46 versus 54.
Does that mean I get to go nuts in a few years?

No. That means You using both side of brain almost equally, but You are right brained. Means You are in 10% of population. And guess what everything in western world is made for left brained. So, if You always feel that you are different then majority but did not know why, then now You know why.
-
Hmm that explains a lot ... I did always think I was a bit weird ... Not in such a bad way but just different.
Interesting thanks.
-
Well trust me to be right brained and I thought I was supposed to be the normal one in all of this.

Left Brain Right Brain

???
-
I did the test and I'm right brained for the first test (dancer) and 48% left and 52% right in the second test.
It was fun to do!
-
Right brained for the first
41% left 59% right for the second which surprised me. Thought it would be the other way around, but makes sense when I think about it.

Hi Albatross, was this arlenetaylor link the one that you meant for MLC and right brained people?
-
Right brain for the 1st test
Left Brain 55% Right Brain 45%
But I think most people are right brain. Most people use emotion over reason. Even if, to be frank, when it comes to be brain things are a little more complicated than right brain, left brain.
-
Right-brained according to both tests...64% to 36% !!! I must be really weird :o ::) Like PG, I enjoyed the test though Albatross...thank you :) I almost even managed to train myself to see the dancer going anti-clockwise...couldn't do it without tilting my head at ridiculous angles though ;D ;D ;D
-
The first test (dancer) I saw it as right brain (counter clockwise) but when I scrolled down to see what it meant it changed directions (clockwise) on me!
The second test 52% right and 48% left.
-

Went back and did this again; does the dancer change direction for anyone else? Maybe my internet connection is messing this up.
-
I went back and had a long look - yes - the first dancer does change directions for me too ???
-
The dancer changes direction. I think my correct one is left brain but when I went down it was the right brain dancer.
-
Left Brain55% Right Brain 45% ;D
http://www.wherecreativitygoestoschool.com/vancouver/left_right/rb_test.htm (http://www.wherecreativitygoestoschool.com/vancouver/left_right/rb_test.htm)
My Results:
Left Brain 44%
Right Brain 56%
Left brain percentages:
most dominant Left: Linear 43% & Verbal 40% with the least dominant being Symbolic 17%
Right brain percentages:
most dominant Right: Random and Intuitive: both at 67%; least dominant Holistic is noteworthy, as my Holistic trait is a whopping 0%!!
Don't know quite what the percentages mean, other than weight against each other.
So.....I guess I'm a right-brained, ADD, MLCer? Yikes! :o
might re-take this in a couple days.

dancer going clockwise IS right-brained :)

This is completely surprise to me. LBS in majority are so far right brained. Odd should be 10 to 1 in favor of left brained in general population. Maybe is the problem why our MLCers cannot get us, connect with us ? Anyway very odd result so far.
-
Hahaha...funny that, Albatross. I noticed that too! Anyway, it's a minority I am more than happy and proud to be part of. ;D ;D ;D

Actually - I'm not all that surprised Albatross. We find ourselves in the minority - most people 'kick their MLCers to the curb' and we are told by most to do the same. This may indeed help to explain why we are all here.
My MLCer is UBER right brained.
Did you see my earlier question? Just wondering if you had posted the correct link for MLC and right brained people?
-
This is completely surprise to me. LBS in majority are so far right brained.
ok. we're all fessing up here..... So, Let's have YOUR 'completely surprise' results! What are your numbers Albatross? ;D
ps. including a breakdown of strong traits :)

Guys, I don't want to spoil the party but in reality there is no such think like right brain or left brain dominant.
http://www.livescience.com/39373-left-brain-right-brain-myth.html
So we can do this tests and have fun but we cannot use it as science or to say that is makes the difference in being an MLCer or a LBS.
If there such thing as right brain or left brain dominant was most people would be right brain dominant. Most people tend to be more emotional than logic.
-
Fairly right brained 59-41. Took a long time to see the dancer spinning counter-clockwise, and only after I stared at the example.
But I am the person who will always look for the wildest solution if nothing else will work. And I'm a writer. Not shocking at all.
And maybe my MLCer is left-brained. Lots of lists. Perhaps I drover her crazy after all... :)

A-HA! I'm right brained and often felt like a round peg in a square hole! My work is more creative now and I feel like I'm fitting a little snugger!

My results:
Left Brain Right Brain
46% 54%
You are more right-brained than left-brained. The right side of your brain controls the left side of your body. In addition to being known as right-brained, you are also known as a creative thinker who uses feeling and intuition to gather information. You retain this information through the use of images and patterns. You are able to visualize the "whole" picture first, and then work backwards to put the pieces together to create the "whole" picture. Your thought process can appear quite illogical and meandering. The problem-solving techniques that you use involve free association, which is often very innovative and creative. The routes taken to arrive at your conclusions are completely opposite to what a left-brained person would be accustomed. You probably find it easy to express yourself using art, dance, or music. Some occupations usually held by a right-brained person are forest ranger, athlete, beautician, actor/actress, craftsman, and artist.
Your left brain/right brain percentage was calculated by combining the individual scores of each half's sub-categories. They are as follows:
Your Left Brain Percentages
43% Linear (Your most dominant characteristic)
34% Symbolic
34% Verbal
30% Logical
20% Reality-based
18% Sequential (Your least dominant characteristic)
Your Right Brain Percentages
48% Intuitive (Your most dominant characteristic)
46% Concrete
36% Holistic
34% Random
24% Fantasy-oriented
13% Nonverbal (Your least dominant characteristic)

Somehow I don't believe in that what article which You address write about.

My type is INFJ and I am highly intuitive which correlate strongly with test of brain type left or right oriented. See intuition in my test.

Anjae I am doing the introduction to Psychology course on Coursera and just learned that there is no distinction between left and right brained people. The article you posted says just what the lecturer on coursera said.
So we use both sides of the brain equally and maybe it is just a mix of personality/nature (but this would be biological wouldn't it so neurologically based?) and nurture as to whether we are more creative or analytical? What exactly is it that makes us more comfortable with creativity versus analysis?
My H is creative type but seems to have become business man which goes against his instincts as I knew him before MLC.

In the dancer test, came out left-brained first and then right-brained. Didn't do the other test, but I absolutely know from work and difficulties communicating with extremely left-brained people sometimes, that I'm quite severely right-brained!
:)
-
That's a very good question, TT...why did I hope, even before I did the test, that I would come out as right-brained and feel better when I did the test and had it confirmed? Similarly, when I did the typology test, I felt comfortable coming out as an intuitive feeling type. It seems that I definitely value feeling over reason but I think I'm missing the point. As Anjae pointed out, there is no such thing as left/right brained, there are just different types of people, and if I understood correctly, instead of being complacently happy that I am one "type" of person, I should be working on developing my weaker side...reasoning and logic...in order to become a more complete person. Perhaps I should be working towards making the dancer go clockwise or anti-clockwise at will...just thinking aloud really. I've just come back from a long walk with the dog...how I love those times :) :) :)

Interesting tests and thoughts. So it may be a sort of pseudo-science but for me, I think it holds true in many ways.
As to me, the test says I am right brained. I would say that is true now. Following the crisis with Genius and during the recovery and growth time I craved art, music, plants, the symphony, yoga, museums, scented oils, natural remedies, spirituality, reading, painted my home with earth tones-mustard yellow, browns, greens. Previously I was a numbers and logic person, played numbers games to unwind, took a calculus class for an elective in 9th grade.
I think the stress and trauma of the crisis forced me to subconsciously want/need to further develop the right side of the brain somehow, to seek to surround myself with artistic beauty perhaps, to find peace while I retreated and adjusted to painful truths/reality.
I would like to think I am now becoming a more complete person although the journey is far from over. But I am enjoying it immensely!

This is interesting; my H is now interested in art, never was before but now he is drawn to it. Early in his crisis he was interested in working with his hands; he took up woodworking but hasn't touched it in probably 6 months or so. Spent a bunch of money and doesn't even look at it now ??? I have always wondered why art; he is always wanting to go museums. OW1 could draw and I have wondered if that is connected to his interest in art now.

Good Afternoon Searching4Answers!
If I may, I would like to take a stab at answering your question, why art. Of course, it is only a guess as I am sorry to say I have not read your thread. In my case, art is relaxing as well as stimulating. It is peaceful, focusing my mind and senses as though I have tunnel vision. I actually feel my mind tingle as I look at it. The colors, shapes, sounds, and the beauty are absorbed. And is this not what we hope for the MLCer? That he be able to quiet his spinning mind and to think and feel again? To find peace and beauty? To grow into a well rounded mature person?
As to the part about the OW: I would guess that she is only tangentially related to his interest in art. Perhaps one of the things that drew him to her was her artistic skills. Perhaps it was her that introduced him to the museum and he had an experience as I described above there, creating peace in his zippy foggy mind. Who knows? Either way art is helping him. It is my experience that a MLCer has few moments of mental stimulation and peace, few times when they can just enjoy the beauty of the world. He is looking for peace and beauty as they all are I believe, it is just that he is sensibly finding it in a museum rather than in the lap of a stripper and her shiny costume or at the bottom of a bottle. Not a bad habit to have acquired on his journey I would say!
My question for you to ponder if you like, is do you enjoy art, going to museums? Perhaps you will think of taking a class in the field of art? Drawing? Painting? Sculpture? Art History? Textiles? I never thought I was into art previously until I tried. And that is what this journey is all about, stepping out of our comfort zone, trying new things, expanding our horizons! Finding peace and beauty in to world!
