It sounds like MLC to me: After leaving his wife and three kids for a 25-year-old, this cricket player moved on to Elizabeth Hurley. Three years later, there are rumors he is reconnecting with his wife:
http://www.zimbio.com/Elizabeth+Hurley/articles/du8vHR9AYDM/Liz+Hurley+Shane+Warne+split+over+ex+wife
-
Paul Hollywood describes his recent affair as a big mistake because he actually still loved his wife and they are apparently working things out.
In the following article he mentions that he 'didn't think anyone was that interested in him' so was surprised at the media storm that followed - interesting. Also interesting is that he describes himself now as being in 'a much better place'. MLC or not? Seems quite a short timeline.
http://tv.uk.msn.com/features/reality-tv-scandals-paul-hollywood-admits-affair-with-co-star
-
As soon as their split was announced, I thought there was some whole MLC related issue...
And she filed for divorce almost immediately too...
Would be interesting to hear her side of things ;)

-
And he also lost alot of weight.........again, timeline is quite short, but as we know, they can act perfectly normal in their professional lives. Who knows what goes on when the camera isn't on him.
-
Did anyone here UK side hear the discussion on Radio 2 at lunchtime - initially talking about Paul Hollywood and his affair - was interesting to hear the different sides, although obviously no one mentioned MLC!
I think the Paul Hollywood interview was on 5 Live yesterday, Panda.
I did think the male they had in the studio today was very much on the side of it takes two to have an affair, which we don't all doubt, but it was that women often don't pick up on when men are saying they are unhappy, not listening properly...! Maybe that's the difference in exit affairs? It did affirm the view that in many cases, the LBS actually does still love their spouse.
Will try and post a link later...

Not sure if this would be considered a MLC situation or constitute as a celebrity, but there may be symptoms here that may show as a precursor to it. Interesting insight into the world of a professional athlete and the pressures associated throughout life.

The erratic behavior of Toronto's mayor sounds MLC to me:

IANTE flagged up this one:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2407407/So-Rick-Stein-DID-ex-wife-slap-wife-No-2-face.html
-
The Toronto mayor story is really getting out of hand, isn't it?
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2013/nov/18/mayor-rob-ford-toronto-powers-council-vote
"Ford knocked over a council member and heckled members of the public during extraordinary debate at city hall"
"The council does not have the power to remove Ford from office unless he is convicted of a crime. It is pursuing the strongest recourse available after the recent drug abuse revelations and his repeated outbursts of erratic behavior."
"Mayor Ford has had many choices ... Would he change his behavior? Would he step aside and seek help?" said councillor John Filion. "The mayor unfortunately has chosen the path of denial. Now it's time to take away the keys."
if you aks me, the mayor is having a MLC. erratic behaviour, path of denial, anger, use of drugs...

Hardly MLC at 29, but funny none the less
-
Well there's some money neither one of them got!!! ;D ;D ;D
-
FTT, I've merged your "priceless MLC news story" into this ongoing thread we have.
-
Watching CBS Sunday morning.
Charles d!ckens 45, OW 18.
Doesn't love his wife he has 10 children with anymore.
-
Oh yes. He shambled his whole his life and never looked back.
He wasn't ashamed to say that he'd left his wife because she had become 'old' and that hzving 10 children held him back.
But then again, back in those days, women were condidered past it after the age of 30 and were only ever good to be 'mothers' to one and all.
That wasn't mlc. It was just common practice.
-
The Forum is changing the word d!ckens. Is d!ckens swearing in some places?
-
I doubt it. On some forums even tne word cocktail gets sensored ;D
-
The Forum is changing the word d!ckens. Is d!ckens swearing in some places?
We don't need your foul language here!! Lol
I think it's the first 4 letters that cause the flag. Lets try a coue:
Shiitake
Cockle
kittywillow
-
$h!teake mushrooms I meant.
-
It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. ;D
-
Potty mouth analysis and sketchy morals aside, am I the only one who found d!ckens' novels to be really boring?
-
Blardy boring! But Bleak house was a good one.
I have visited d!cken's world and that was much fun. A guided tour into his life and era.
And what an Era!
d!ckens had a thing for teenage girls. He was a walking crisis, nothing to do with midlife.
Trusting, his books were boring because they were all about him, mostly, with his alter egos and fantasies of young women in need with not much self esteem to their person. Self indulgeance ahoy.
Basically he was a perv ;D
-
It's ironic, as his Christmas classic, A Christmas Carol, is about an old man who faces his demons and, overnight, transitions from a seriously disturbed and childish hermit to a loving, giving adult. We all know about transitions, here.
No offense to the English but, another bore....Shakespeare.
-
No offense to the English but, another bore....Shakespeare.
I would have to disagree with you on that. ;) He does have some great insults. One of my favorites - “I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but I see you are unarmed!”
If I remember correctly from the days I had to plod through d!ckens, they were descriptive to the point of tedium.
-
I remember the days I had to plod through Shakespeare.......nuff said
-
The expression “what the d!ckens” has the same meaning as “what the hell?” and “what the devil?” So when someone says, “Who the d!ckens are you?” what he is saying is, “Who the hell/devil are you?” According to some scholars “d!ckens” refers to Satan. One of the terms used to refer to the devil is “Old Nick”. Since “d!ck” rhymes with “Nick”, the word began to be used to refer to the devil. There are a number of expressions in the English language with the word “d!ckens”. Some are, “go to the d!ckens”, “raise the d!ckens”, “play the d!ckens” and “the d!ckens take you”
Are we dealing with intuitive censorship here LOL - does the forum know that d!ckens is a euphemism?
One of my favorites - “I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but I see you are unarmed!”
Oh I like that Trusting :)
-
I remember the days I had to plod through Shakespeare.......nuff said
Speaking of plodding through, another Shakespeare quote comes to mind when thinking about MLC.
"Tomorrow and tomorrow and tomorrow creeps in its petty pace from day to day to the last syllable of recorded time..."
I think that is about how long MLC takes, give or take a day or two.
-
To suffer the slings & arrows of outrageous fortune............
-
"What light through yonder window breaks?" Shakespeare
"Gloom, despair and agony on me." Hee Haw
-
Now THAT'S Funny!
deep dark depression, excessive misery!
-
d!ckens was a twat, but I still read his books from time to time. You shouldn't really read Shakespeare, you're meant to see it performed - the plays anyway!
-
How about I don't read either one?
-
Me either!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all
-
d!ckens was a twat, but I still read his books from time to time. You shouldn't really read Shakespeare, you're meant to see it performed - the plays anyway!
Aw, Sunny, you killjoy! I was looking forward to debate about d!ckens life choices and I had a good repertoire of Shakespearian insults for him but now you've gone ruined my zeal with calling him a 'twat'.
I can't raise anything against that one.
Well played, Sunny ;) ;D :-*
-
Read a Tale of Two Cities - the more I think about it - the more I see how apt it is to the world of MLC .
The rebellion in France matches the turmoil in H and OW's life. Yep can see OW as Madame Defarge plotting the British women's (aka me) downfall.
Whereas the British women (me) stay calm, loyal and true to justice and honour......
"It was the best of times and the worst of times..."
-
MLC is pretty much the worst of times ... they are such a mess.
I tried and tried and tried to read A Tale of Two Cities. I never got very far.
-
"What fools these mortals be." Shakespeare. :D How apt for our MLCers, don't you think??
-
I am one who dealt quite well with his books.... but watching the mini-series' is best, after all, that is how they were written -- in installments. Were he around today he'd be writing all the TV series that we all watch.
I read Claire Tomalin's biography of him; it's excellent. Yes, he was a walking crisis, but the midlife thing is particularly apparent. And yes, probably all down to childhood issues.....
-
So one I have been following is Paul Hollywood as I am a fan of TGBBO.
Anyway, he seems to have now got back together with his wife - interesting, though, his wife actually managed to get her own TV show out of this.
http://www.mirror.co.uk/3am/celebrity-news/great-british-bake-star-paul-2965466?oo=0
-
I don't think he had a mlc, he just had an affair and she wrote articles for newspapers about it and didn't she publish a book about baking too and now she has her own tv show!!! What amazing PR, husband has an affair and comes back very publicly ... All sounds like it went according to plan?!?
-
I think the story of the policeman blinded by being shot by Raoul Moat is very sad and possibly the worst and darkest form of MLC depression.
This policeman was shot at point blank range by gunman Raoul Moat. He survived but lost sight. He seemed ok mentally at first but months later an interview with BBC showed him clearly struggling.
18 months or so after the shooting he hanged himself.
The inquest opened today and his wife gave evidence and said that he had become increasingly depressed and difficult. He refused counselling and suddenly took up with a younger woman. He sent his wife abusive texts - approx. 1000pcm and distanced himself from his children and family.
Now obviously this particular catalyst is horrendous but it is so sad that he became so ill with depression that he took his own life. Was it just the trauma of the event or that and the guilt of the affair or both and the feeling that he could never return to what he was.
So sad, so very sad.
-
I know this probably isn't news to many, but I only read of it today. Paul Young's wife (he is an 80s pop star) left him when she was 44, in 2006. She moved in with another man, had a child, and three years later reconciled with Paul. No reference to MLC, of course, but I think this is most likely MLC. They are now raising the child, now 8, together with their other children and appear to be very happy.
-
This was being discussed on DaRealist's thread; I took the liberty of putting the link here....
http://www.elle.com/life-love/sex-relationships/chris-evert-marriages
I had read another article in a magazine on this a while ago, in which Chris Evert actually used the term MLC for what she did.
Her H, (2nd one, actually, the one she left when the MLC kicked in) did marry again, but has now divorced that wife very recently; it will be interesting to watch what happens next.

Had to Google it, I had lots of posters of him on my wall during junior high. :) Found this - he sounds like a model stander: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-1337256/Why-Paul-Young-taken-wife-TWICE-NOW-raising-love-child.html

I am so glad I found this thread! I will start reading the previous one so I can get caught up.

nce we're onf film and tv awards seasons the winner of every available award is François Hollande, the French President. Hollande got involved with a much younger actress, leaving Valerie Trierweiler for whom he had left his wife and 4 kids a few years ago.
The story is so bizarre (don't think it is on this article, think it was in another one) that Hollande had to confirm the status of the French fist lady to the White House since he and Trierweiler were offiacily invinted for a dinner. Now, I guess the young actress will go... or he will go alone...
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jan/25/francois-hollande-confirms-separation-valerie-trierweiler
OK guys, it is fair enough if you say it is not MLC, just a French President being a French President... ::) ::) ::)
-
I didn't realise he left his wife and kids for Trierweiler! Four years and he's at it again. Oh dear. I would say typical French presidential behaviour.
I read johnny depp got engaged to his girlfriend, he never married Vanessa paradis and now back to his old ways of getting engaged or married to every girlfriend he has. I think that is all so odd.
-
I wonder whether John Thaw (aka Inspector Morse) could be classed as having had an MLC - my friend said she had just finished reading a book his wife, Sheila Hancock wrote, The Two of Us, and the way she described it, it could well be...
-
I don't think politicians count at all, presidents, mp's, French or not.
They are a greedy odd bunch with power on the mind.
They are all bonkers, ruthless and liars. The only crisis we should credit them with, is the financial crisis they've afflicted upon us all.
-

Hear hear!
-
Booboo, I think it was more investment bankers and the subprime dirty business that put the crisis upon us.
Still, most of those guys (and gals) that run the world, run it high. On drugs, money, power, sex, whatever.
Yep TT, Trierweiler was the OW. Now the OW was traded for a newer OW model. Trierweiler had it so bad that she spend a week in hospital when she found out about the new OW.
-
Hollande for sure is a case of MLC, you just have to look at the photo of him bent over on a scooter sneaking out to OW2...(a president!)
Mind you, he wasn't married to the mother of his 4 children either, 'only' stayed nearly 30 years or so with her (so probably missed some aspects of puberty to be able to commit fully to his family).
Also affair down, and more down: 'wife' Royal, a female politician (and was BD kind of around when she was presenting as president), OW1 a journalist writing on politics OW2 a film star(let? I am not so up to date)....
Imagine a country run by a MLCler, yeah, no wonder France is so much in crisis...
-
It is said that one of the first things Hollande asked when he arrived to the Elysee was how he could sneak out without being seen. Of course this could had been and innocent question but I suspect it was so that Monsieur scooter could go meet OW2.
I would say spending 30 years with someone and have 4 kids with them allows for husband and wife to be used.
"Trierweiler also admitted that news of François Hollande's affair with a French actor left her feeling like she had "fallen from a skyscraper".
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/jan/30/valerie-trierweiler-france-francois-hollande-interview
Pretty sure it was like falling from a skyscraper mademoiselle Trierweiler, you just forgot that when you were sleeping with Segolene Royal husband, right?... Because for Royal is surely was not like falling from a skyscraper..
This OW, really... why are they always such big drama queens? Phew...
And why is everyone treating Trierweiler has the adorable, faithful betrayed partner is beyond me.
-
Anjae I totally agree with you, I do have sympathy for Trierweiler but not that much. It is that old adage...if your partner cheated to be with you they may very well cheat on you. I see it all the time! Naïveté.
-
I've been watching Breaking Bad on Netflix, and am convinced Walter White is
in MLC. I don't want to give anything away for those yet to see it, but let's be honest, he says he does what he does for his family, yet keeps going when he has a change to quit, lies to his family non stop, has more than enough money yet keeps cooking. Its all about his enormous ego, his drive to be "the man". When things go wrong, he takes zero responsibility. In fact if he wanted to help his family, he could have avoided the whole meth thing so his family aren't in perpetual danger of being killed or kidnapped. He can't even keep track of the lies anymore.
I don't like Walter, I think hes a jerk. But to my mind, a. MLC jerk.
-
That's my H!!!!! To the T. I have said it before and I still maintain that my H is living his life through that TV series!
He even had a friend called 'Jessy' at one point!!!! And, like Skylar or whatever her name is, the wife, I have a shop! :o
My h doesn't cook up meth though, something more 'B class' and he wants to be the best at it!!!
My H fell in love with that tv series!
I am embarrassed of him!
-
http://www.radiotimes.com/news/2013-08-08/vince-gilligan-breaking-bad-ending-was-decided-very-late-in-the-game
And here we have it! :o ::)
-
This is interesting. I have only just started watching series one and I thought MLC as soon as I saw it!
-
Then you are watching my family lol
Except I do not get involved with any of my mlcer sordid antics and only accept money from him he has earned legitimately, if not I go without.
I only accept payments from bank to bank, no back handers, no!
My h even sports the glasses and beard...He is a bit prettier than W,White though and I have teased him with it. In the beginning, I called him Walter ;D

Did he also walk around in pants and an apron?? ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
-
:o
I think I'd remember if he did. Funny thing though is, when my H found out about his cysts in his nether region, he bought himself supportive underwear that look freakishly like Walter Whites undercrackers! ;D
Just a bit before Christmas, he said to me: Have you been following Breaking Bad.
Me: No I stopped watching it
Him: Oh. Good really because I don't like him anymore. He is a pr*ck!
:o ::)
-
Walter was told he had cancer so he thought what w he could make lots of money for his family before he died. Yet, at a point, I think he become addicted to the whole adrenalin and went downhill.
Have not watch much of Breaking Bad (there are other series I prefer) but from what I watched Walter is caught up in the whole cook and and meth madness.
The series is calling Breaking Bad and features a midlife man, if it was called steady, normal bloke who is a teacher goes rogue and wild it would not be more MLC accurate. All our MLCers break bad, don't they?... ::) ::) ::)
-
Yeah, they're bad and broken.
-
They break bad...and stoopid! ::)
-
I have to say I watched a couple of episodes and did not get into it, but H loved it . Now I understand why.
-
This is pretty much very old news but since I am taking my coursera course on The Beatles I have now realized that John Lennon had an MLC that led to the groups break up and him having an affair with Yoko Ono.
Of course it also sounds like Cynthia his first wife never stopped loving John even though they were divorced and all.
Interesting that Julian (his oldest son) is now 51 years old so the script of MLC can sometimes never end.
Also Paul McCartney wrote "Hey Jude" which was to help Julian get over their parents divorce.
And "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds" and "Goodnight" was about Julian too!
-
To that point - I think the following had MLC because of what they did and who they hooked up with..
Paul McCartney after the death of Linda - rushing into a very toxic marriage with Heather ?
Woody Allen leaving Mia Farrow and taking up with the child's nanny/teacher
Patrick Stewart (Picard off Star Trek ) divorcing his wife of 35 years and marrying a woman within 2 years or so, half his age in a most bizarre ceremony with Ian Mckellan as the priest (ordained in some whacky cult). The wedding photos were taken in a ball park - yes you read it right.
-
Old pilot, if you read about John lennons affair whilst married to yoko Ono you can see mlc crazy! Yoko Ono was standing for her marriage and sent him off with the younger girl, can't remember her name. He calls them his lost weekend, he drank heavily and hung out with Phil Spector and Harry Nilsson!
I have read a couple of books and Cynthia Lennons book, there is speculation that Lennon was about to move back to the UK and settle back down, he was unhappy with yoko, but he was shot. It's tricky to work out what was happening but I know Julian Lennon was seriously cut out the picture after his fathers death which is tragic. It's all pretty script isn't it.
His Foo issues would have definitely predicted crises throughout his life.
-
Breaking bad is all my h would talk about to anyone who would listen last year.
Now I know why ::)
-
OP I'm going to have to disagree with you on Lennon. He was 29 when he married Yoko, the affair had started before. For me it has nothing to do with MLC, more to do with many happens when someone becomes famous, the person they were married with, especially if at an early age and while the partner is not famous, no longer fits the famous lifestyle.
Cynthia simply no longer fitted the way John wanted to live. Even if yes, their divorce only happened years after John had become famous. But John had been unfaithful many times before, he was no saint (nor he was while married to Yoko).
And I don't believe Yoko broke the Beatles nor that John did it. The Beatles were pretty much broke because they become too famous, people change, fame and money and drugs change people. Remember they had to stop play live because they could not hear themselves with all those girls shouting madly? That was broke/killed the Beatles.
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds means LSD. It is one of the songs of Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band and also features in Yellow Submarine, a record and a film that are perfect acid trips. Also, Lucy was written mostly by Lennon, not McCartney.
Lennon was always unstable and moody and, for all I know, never a happy person. Nor a nice one.
Do you know that Lucy, the australopithecus afarensis found by the Leakeys, is called Lucy because when they found her bones Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds was playing in the radio?
Fictional character of the season going through a MLC, detective Martin Hart from the tv show True Detective. The man messes up big time and still does not get it nor wants to own up to it.
-
I have to agree with Anjae on John, but Songanddance on Paul. Heather Mills had a lot of allegations at the time of her divorce from Paul, and if any of them were true he was a little harsh to her (I don't know what to believe there, though - she was pretty over the top). But that might show a monster side of him (Instead of Puppy Monster, maybe Walrus Monster? ;D).
-
I don't think Paul had an MLC after Linda died, I think he just did what so many men do after having been happily married for many years, and that was rush into the next one right away without thinking it through. I have a good friend who did that after his wife of 35 happy years died very suddenly; he even told his children that he "just wanted to be married again". Hid children are dumbfounded, no one knows if it will last, but it doesn't have the hallmarks of wanting to abandon, of blaming anyone or that side of it.
-
Patrick Stewart (Picard off Star Trek ) divorcing his wife of 35 years and marrying a woman within 2 years or so, half his age in a most bizarre ceremony with Ian Mckellan as the priest (ordained in some whacky cult). The wedding photos were taken in a ball park - yes you read it right.
SandD - I agree about P. Stewart. I didn't know his back story but I saw him interviewed on a show called The Captains where William Shatner interviews actors who played Star Trek Captains. The following clip leads me to think MLC and gives me hope about post MlC-remorse (WS=W. Shatner & PS=P. Stuart):
WS: Are you ever lonely?
PS: Never. I've always been content with my own company.
WS: What does it feel like to be divorced?
You see PS's demeanor change--he becomes very quiet and there is pain and sadness in his eyes.
PS: I have two major regrets in my life and they are both to do with the failure, my failure, in my marriages. How I behaved, what I did--it can't be corrected. And guilt I think has has gone, but regret remains and I have that very strongly. And it has kind of handicapped me. I've been married twice, divorced twice and I don't think I could every do it again.
P.S. I think I heard that he just recently remarried.
I think Robert Redford also had an MLC.
-
Not sure if this one has been mentioned before but saw him on tv at friends house last night on Piers Morgan, only briefly as we were all chatting so I googled up on him.
Ian Botham, he stayed at home and denied it up to the last but had affair and I don't think he understands why to this day, a happy ending though.

Her name was Mai Pang - and there is speculation that it was Yoko Ono who "brokered" the relationship between John and Mai. Maybe she thought that, if he was going to go off with someone else, Yoko might as well choose the OW and insure that John would be taken care of?
Who the heck knows.
I had read that the Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds song was written after John saw a drawing that Julian had drawn? I thought the whole LSD was a coincidence? (Well, maybe not) ::)
Woody Allen leaving Mia Farrow and taking up with the child's nanny/teacher
Well, for one thing - Woody has always been a nut case...and many of his films show an older man chasing after a younger woman. (His fantasy, I suppose?)
I don't know about the child's nanny/teacher? When Woody and Mia broke up (they didn't live together, by the way) - Woody was having an affair with Mia's adopted daughter. He married the daughter. Can we say WEIRDO?
Lennon was always unstable and moody and, for all I know, never a happy person. Nor a nice one.
Doesn't surprise me. He was probably the most artistic and talented of the four of them.....and probably suffered deeply for his art. I think many of the most profound books, poems, etc...were created by someone with issues. I guess Happy Texts...don't really sell.

Lucy in Sky - definitely about LSD as it is on album after they had all been with that Indian guru and experimented.
BBC documentary about the 4 of them and their manager Brian ?? some time ago and Lennon knew that if they mentioned LSD it would be censored so it was their cryptic way of writing this. A bit like Puff the Magic dragon from Peter, Paul and Mary??
Still think that McCartney had some form MLC after Linda's death as he rejected his children's comments about Heather Mills, Stella McCartney almost disowned him as his behaviour was off the wall and she hated Heather with a passion. I appreciate the comment of post grief marriage - his UK interviews showed that he seemed a little off the wall. Remember BD is usually triggered after an event and he and Linda did shut themselves away in the last few weeks before her death.
I think he helped her to die and the guilt was just too much......

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Julian_Lennon
Julian Lennon was born in Liverpool. Initially, the fact that John Lennon was married and had a child was concealed from the public, in keeping with the conventional wisdom of the era that female teenage fans would not be as enamoured of married male pop stars. Lennon inspired one of his father's most famous songs, "Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds", whose lyrics describe a picture the boy had drawn, a watercolour painting of his friend Lucy O'Donnell from nursery school[5] surrounded by stars.
This story agrees with what Limitless wrote
-
Wikipedia -is an interesting source and this version may be based in truth but I am simply paraphrasing from a BBC documentary on the Beatles that I watched recently following the anniversary of Lennon's death.
Wikipedia notoriously gets things wrong. I listened to an interview with a very well established British actor who said that Wiki gave him the wrong date of birth, wrong birthplace, a middle name he didn't have and he had a "wife" who he had worked with once but certainly never married. The "wife" was an actress who tried to correct this on Wiki and was told that the source was unimpeachable so therefore she was lying when she said that she wasn't married to him.
Tim Minchin (writer of Matilda the show fame) also said that Wiki had put false facts about him in. He couldn't be bothered to correct them and was thinking of writing a musical about Wikipedia!!!!
-
Sigh. Another one. And this involves an actress I like as the OW....

"In fact, he had already arranged and sent out invitations for a surprise 40th birthday party for his wife, Kerry Bradley, when he dramatically cancelled everything and announced their 20-year relationship was over."
Now this is what I call a MLC! People we like, in real life or famous ones, can become a MLCer and also be the OW/OM.
‘Everyone assumed they were so in love – and that’s clearly what he wanted everyone to think when he began arranging Kerry’s surprise birthday party. Kerry has been very brave, but two years later she’s still recovering. She’s furious not just at Tom but at Jessica too for being with her husband, and now getting to know her kids too."
Think around here we're very familiar with this situation.
‘And she can’t help observing the irony of how Tom first met Jessica – when he was playing a husband having a mid-life crisis, and Jessica was playing a wild young temptress.’
The irony... ::) ::) ::) How on earth someone famous and whose life is going to be all over the map accepts to be a permanent OW (a normal affair is different) is beyond me.
-
She's in LURVE don't you know.
We know the outcome - let's just wait and watch!!
-
This is a tv show rather than news or a celebrity but-does anyone watch Switched at Birth? It sort of looks to me like they might be setting Katherine(Lea Thompson) up for a MLC. Wouldn't that be great to have it recognized somewhere?
-
Been watching the history programmes and like RCR suggests I believe that Henry VIII had had an MLC. He rejected Catherine of Aragon after 20 years (under the pretext that the marriage was false and that he had never loved her) in favour of Anne Boleyn.
She played a very skilful game and, if the stories are to be believed refused to sleep with Henry until he had found a way to set Catherine aside legally.
And yet - look how quickly she fell from grace!
Interesting that Henry never chucked Catherine out from the palace - she had separate quarters and even when he was after marrying his other wives - he never forgot her and by all accounts recognised her with greater esteem than his other wives.
-
I read about this one yesterday. Further proof that the affair down may be accomplished, but still brings the cray-cray:

Here's an interesting read about Mel Gibson
A Journalist’s Plea To Take Mel Gibson Off Hollywood's Blacklist
http://movies.yahoo.com/news/journalist-plea-10th-anniversary-passion-christ-hollywood-mel-214854535.html
Here's the thing that piqued my interest...
During his breakup with Grigorieva, he’d gone through a terrible emotional breakdown and struggled to get healthy, gain joint custody of his infant daughter and deal with the fallout from the publication of those awful tapes. He was in a very bad place and we talked for some time about how difficult it was for him to deal with the pain he’d inflicted on his family — his ex-wife Robyn and his seven children, his infant daughter. He got so upset talking about that period in his life that he ended our call abruptly. He’d shared some very deep, personal feelings with me and was in so much pain, that I was honestly worried about him.
-
Boy oh boy he REALLY blew it in my eyes...Charlie Sheen is an idiot- Mel Gibson?
WOW all those beautiful children... a long term marriage what else could that guy want?? :o ;D ;D
His success must have gotten the better of him. Or he had to do something else before he died...
-
Interesting, DaRealist. I read that earlier today. He is one of the very, very few celebrities that I personally think has really had an MLC (most others I think are just behaving badly because they can). I keep watching to see what shows up about him. He is definitely far enough into it to be un-MLCing. I wonder if Robyn will have anything to do with him?
-
I read a while ago that she actually did take him back after the relationship split up with the chick he thought he wanted but I don't know if they are still together...
He's an alcoholic that doesn't help him..if he can stop drinking? He might have a chance to be a "real boy" some day and GROW UP.
He needs to live ALONE for a while IMHO.
-
I wonder how on earth a woman like the one of that article you posted iamnottheenemy has the nerve to try to seek compensation because, given what she did, she lost her various jobs.
Some people must be truly,, truly nuts... the good thing? We really learn that the affair down has nothing to do with looks or amount of money the OW/OM have.
Robert Redford had a MLC yes ago but his did not involved OW nor crazy stuff. He felt like he was dying, amicably divorced his first wife and remains friends with her.
-
I was going to mention Redford but never knew what happened.
Paul Newman seemed to adjust to his life- of course he had that race car thing going on..but never heard of any affairs. Has anybody else?

Maybe Francois Hollande was having an MLC all along:

"Following his retirement? Ok, a sudden need to proof he is not getting old? We all are and no young squeeze can stop it. The thing is, Mandy wanted you before you were a famous millionaire, she wanted you for you."
In a nutshell, the bold part of that comment. It is pretty much it for every guy/woman who leaves their spouse/partner decades down the road and after fame for a younger, usually less known or struggling to be known, model.

There is a show here in the US called "True Tori".
It follows Tori Spelling and her husband. He has recently been caught in an affair, and is being treated for substance abuse. I watched the first couple of episodes, and it screams MLC. He is a basketcase.
Only difference is that he wants his family, and to fix things. But he still is suffering from depression, OW, alcohol and drugs.
Interesting to see him breakdown and whats in his brain!
-
Well, well. What comes around goes around: Tori was the ow in the break up of McDermott's marriage to Mary Jo Eustace who was a TV chef in Canada--I always thought he'd found a bigger 'star'. By Eustace's account Tori said some pretty cruel things to her esp. re: her age & MJ Eustace is truly a beautiful woman, Tori was just young... Anyway he's a mess but I don't know if we can attribute this to mlc. And I don't have a scrap of sympathy for Tori--she was the younger affair down the first time around.
-
Gwynnie has had affairs in all her relationships. She now may, or may not, be in crisis, but she always cheated on boyfriends and partners. Chris probably just had enough of all of Gwynnie manias.
As for Tori, well, she never seemed to be a good person, she cheated on her first husband with current one, who was also cheating on his wife. Those two deserve each other.
And to join to our list of celebrities having issues, Ben Affleck has been forbide to ever again play blackjack in a Vegas Casino. It seems he is a heavy gambler (and that has provoked several marital problems), he knows how to count cards (not that hard to do, really) and was making huge bets when the cards where in his favour and tiny ones when they were in favour of the house. The house does not like to loose and they put an end to his game.
Ah, don't you guys just love when famous people are just like everyone else, except they have millions to blow and their lives are on public display?... ::) ::) ::)

Who wants to divorce a billionaire?...
http://www.theguardian.com/world/2014/may/19/russian-oligarchs-former-wife-wins-record-breaking-divorce-settlement
One would get £2.6bn after 23 years of marriage and 6 of trying to get a divorce settlement.
"Asked why it had taken six years to obtain a judgment, the lawyer replied: "Because the oligarch put up strong resistance." Bonnant said the harsh ruling took into account the fact that Rybolovlev, who, according to Forbes is worth $8.8bn and is the world's 147th richest man, had attempted to conceal the full extent of his assets via offshore ventures."
Sounds familiar?...
Also, the billionaire and his wife meet when they were students. MLC? Maybe or just a billionaire who does not want to part with half of his fortune...

A terrible murder happened in Italy last week, it was all over the news, and the more I read about it, the more I think it might be MLC-related.
Basically this man, Carlo Lissi, had a 38 yo wife, a 4 yo daughter and a 20 month old son. He was dissatisfied with his work and life and got a massive crush on a woman at his job... however this woman didn't become an OW, she flat out rejected him and wanted nothing to do with him.
So he went home and killed his wife and two children, then showered and went to watch the football game at the bar as if nothing had happened. He tried to pretend there had been a robbery in his house but he was busted immediately because he left traces all over the place, he was completely irrational in how he handled it.
During the interrogation, the police asked him why he didn't just get a divorce, and he said something like 'because if you divorce the kids are still there anyway'.
Sadly too many people are blaming, guess who? Either the wife - oh she must have been so horrible - or the poor other woman, saying 'oh he killed his family for that wh*re! what a b*tch to mess with a married man!' and when they are informed that she rejected him, then they turn to 'oh that stupid stuck up wh*re! if she'd just put out none of this would have happened! women are b*tches!'
....seriously, guys. Seriously.

you may be right..I have long suspected that some domestic homicides are caused by MLC

Ah, thank you dear, I hadn't thought of posting it on this one!
-
All crises & issues fall on a spectrum. This case is an extreme example--if you ever watch [ :-[ :D ] those true crime shows, there are many that are almost certainly mlc.
-
Maybe that one is more a case of burnout/burning the (brain) fuses) than MLC. My friend who is psychiatrist had a few of those cases and they used to be caused my extreme stress. One guy had planned to kill the kids, next the wife, than himself. The wife caught him trying to murder the kids and managed to call the police. The man end up in the psychiatric hospital. He was a top white collar man, very well off in life, he told my friend he could no longer deal with the stress of his very demanding profession and wanted to get rid of everything that remind him of it.

Interesting read
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/3554534/The-secret-affair-that-almost-ruined-d!ckens.html
Just watched the movie The Invisible Women. Excellent movie based on Charles d!ckens Mid Life Crisis.
It seems that MLC knows no bounds :o
Jagger
-
On further research , I found this article that describes Mr. d!ckens horrible demons from his childhood.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1280319/Ellen-Ternan-Teenage-mistress-mesmerised-Charles-d!ckens.html
Clearly classic case of MLC. , and so very sad for his wife and his children. He himself died prematurely from all the stress of his double life and no doubt the regret, guilt and remorse. Very sad indeed.
-
The first article with quotes from Charles dance romanticises the passionate affair and kind of commends him for getting away from his unhappy marriage to Catherine and how we mustn't judge, this is 2008 after all!!! GRRRR! This is mlc script after all!
Sounds like a very romanticised view, the second talks of a rather pushy mother pushing her daughter onto the stage and into his arms and then a life of subterfuge and shame for both of them. Regardless of Victorian morals getting in the way I believe this is what mlcers live with because this is about living a life that is incongruous with their soul, the lack of integrity and authenticity leaves a mlcer forever uneasy and unbalanced spiritually. We live in a society now that accepts, even embraces divorce and separation, and yet we have men and women still screwing up their lives and those of their wives and kids at midlife.
The second article sounds like the writer totally gets MLC and describes the scenario just as we perceive it here, the final paragraph sums it up for me:
If, as one suspects, the relationship made them both more miserable than happy, how terribly sad.
The discussion of FOO issues affecting the midlife behaviour of d!ckens is interesting and refreshing to hear in mainstream media.
Really interesting, be good to delve deeper and do a study of his crisis and juxtapose with modern crisis and the knowledge we have about FOO issues and neurology etc.
-
Hi TT,
How are you doing?
I agree with your POV on the articles. At least there is mention of the MLC affliction that gripped his life.
His antics before and during his affair with a child reek of manic replay behavior as well. Apparently he loved his wife to death for the longest time and then suddenly decided that they were incompatible and that she was lazy, really ??? Ten kids and supporting him in his career :o
MLC script.
If you get a chance to watch the movie, it's worth it ...the acting is superb . There are a few scenes where his MLC cruelty towards his wife and his family.... The fog... Is so apparent. He was a family man dedicated to his kids and wife for so long and then he snapped and had contact with his first love hoping that she would be beautiful and youthful but she proved to have aged and so he ended contact with her and moved onto a child who needed rescuing. Her mother was disgraceful and took full advantage of the situation as he became there knight in shining armor.
This MLC story did not end well for anyone involved it seems. Karma is a b!tc# :-\

http://www.politico.com/story/2014/09/mark-sanford-engagement-off-110908.html
Sanford calls off engagement and blames ex-wife- it´s still all about him.
Ex-wife asks for a court ordered psychological evaluation.
Sanford calls ex-wife crazy.
You cannot make this $hit up.
-
Have to admit the court-ordered psych evaluation crossed my mind for my H too.
How about this one - Neil Young leaves his wife of 36 years for Daryl Hannah, who Young's former bandmate David Crosby calls a "purely poisonous predator":
http://www.people.com/article/daryl-hannah-dating-neil-young
-
Well ..Sanford and Young will be justly rewarded
-
Neil Young what? :o David Crosby seems to be a wise man.
Also thought of asking for a the court-ordered psych evaluation for Mr J. Bu here if he was said to suffer a mental illness I would have to support him even after divorce. It would play against me so I refrain from it.
-
I just read a Facebook post of Mark Sanford who is a disgrace politician, who cheated on his wife and disappeared to be with his OW in Argentin while wife and kids waited for him to come home to celebrate Father's Day.
This Facebook post is to announce that him and OW is calling off their engagement, yet he blamed his ex-wife for it. It's quite rich.
I leaned so much how messed up MLC mind works.
Whole post was "poor me" so typical.
https://www.facebook.com/RepSanfordSC/posts/280140345529087
-
Amazing. He still takes no blame for what happened. Still blaming his wife.
Still all about him.
-
Interesting to read the comments section. Not many at all are buying his dribble. Glad most people still can recognize right and wrong.
-
I was sickened by his references to Christ. Very hypocritical. If that is what he believes, he is not living it out.
-
C, I've merged your thread with this one.
-
Yes i read the Facebook post, this is surely political suicide?. According to some of the comments he was seeking a gagging order on his wife so I suspect there might be some big revelations. Oh dear, I saw some comments that say his Facebook post smacks of narcissistic personality disorder, what do we say here about MLC? Narcissism a huge part. He fits the mlc script beautifully.
Just feel so sorry for his kids, so so sorry for them.
-
Yes i read the Facebook post, this is surely political suicide?
Maybe not. If he is american he may be fine. After all the US managed to keep a cheating president in office. OK, at least 2, but JFK was not caught same way Clinton was.
-
JFK was assassinated. It seems to have absolved him.
Clinton was/is a lot smarter/smoother than Sanford.
Sanford is done.
Even in the US.
Jmho
-
Is it thought that Clinton was having a MLC, and his wife was standing or is he just a bad boy?
-
Hillary Clinton stood by her man, she was and is a good politician. Clinton was a very good president. Sanford sounds like he's hanging on by the skin of his teeth. I read that sanford's ex wife was a little like Hillary Clinton in that she was very much an intellectual, political and personal support to her husband. What a doofus. Quoting the bible seems to be to appeal to his Christian constituents but judging by the comments they haven't been fooled. I think that's the worst part, the arrogant and narcissistic belief that a man can fool his public into believing he is this total victim when he clearly had an affair and dumped his wife and four kids and used tax payers money to fund it! He's a terrific hypocrite and I think his voters can see that. His Facebook rant certainly exposes him as one!
-
I don't think Clinton had a crisis. He's just a cheater. Can't seem to help himself.
Not making excuses.
Sanford? MLC? Sure sounds like it. He's completely delusional.
L
-
Thanks Limitless,
I think Clinton is one of the most Charismatic men I have ever seen. He was here in Melbourne a few weeks ago and really caused a stir with the ladies!! Lucky Hilary (or not).
-
I agree with Limitless. I don't think there is any reason to believe Clinton had an MLC. But Sanford, oh boy. What an MLC mess.
-
They could always ship this guy to Italy. He could be Berlusconi's bff...
-
I don't think Clinton, or JFK, had MLC. They are (were) just cheaters. Was just saying that being a preeminent politician in the US, even at president, level and having an affair, does not get you out of office.
Funny, I cannot find an ounce of charisma in Clinton. He always looked like someone you cannot trust to me.
Sanford means nothing in my little corner of the world. From what I read here he is some american politician going off the rails = having a MLC.
-
Hi everyone,
Wondering if any of you also watch True Tori on Lifetime and the show Being Mary Jane. If you follow the news you have probably heard the story of how Tori Spelling was married an left her husband for her also married Affair Partner, Dean. They met on the set of a TV movie, had the affair and left their spouses. Got married and had 4 kids. Well....karma bus....he cheated on her with another actress while on set for another TV movie. Tori is now devistated and being blasted in the media as it being karma. Her H Dean is MLC age range and also has addiction issues. You should take a watch if you are handling an OW and OM issue. Makes me feel better every week. 8) True proof of the dissolution of the affair and its fog. Tuesdays at 9pm on Lifetime.
The other show, Being Mary Jane finished its last season but repeats are being shown on and off. That is not a real show, it is a drama. But still shows the OW fantasy end and its problems.

This caught my eye. Does this sound like a person who has emerged from the tunnel?
"Rich Terfry, the Canadian musician and CBC Radio 2 host who is best known by his stage name Buck 65, posted an emotional message on his Facebook page Sunday, asking for "help" in his journey "to become a better person."
The 43-year-old, Nova Scotia-born alternative hip hop artist worried fans with the cryptic social media post, which has since been deleted from his profile.
"There's something very important I need to say," Terfry's status read. "I'm not the person you think I am.
"I've destroyed every important relationship in my life by cheating and lying," he continued.
"That includes my marriage."
"I've destroyed every important relationship in my life by cheating and lying. That includes my marriage. Being honest has been a big problem for me for a long time. I've treated a lot of people very badly. I've toyed with people's hearts. I've manipulated and tricked people. I've created a false image of myself here and with my music. I haven't been a good person. At all. I've made myself look like a victim of the people I hurt. I can't do that anymore. So the first step I need to take is to let the world know. I want this to be the first of many steps I take to become a better person. I need a LOT of help with that.
I'm sorry. To the good people I've hurt recently. I'm sorry to the people I've hurt in the past. I'm sorry to everyone for making you believe I'm something I'm not. I'm a $h!tety person. I need help. Like I said, this is just a first step."

Could be. Or it could be that he was someone who really spend all is life lying and cheating.
Depends of how he used to be and if there was a point when he changed and become a "fake".
But whatever the situation, what it shows it that people can, and do, come to a point when they need to bring it out and aim for recovery/become a better person.

Thank you, Offwhitelily. From what he says in the interview he is the LBS. One morning his wife left and when he returned home he found her wedding ring, but she never come back.
But what he wrote on FB seems to point to to him being the one who had been hidding something from people and that he cheated and lied.
If is a little confusing.
-
Been following the Bruce Jenner story lately. It's not MLC, but there was something his ex-wife Linda Thompson wrote for Huffington Post that resonated with me to share for LBS with confused children. I thought what she said, though simple, was worded this in a way that really got to the core of someone having an identity crisis while being a parent.
When the boys were ever especially disappointed by the absence of their father, Linda would do her best to rationalize, saying that when it came to Bruce's emotions "you have to view him in a wheelchair. If he had emotional legs, he'd get up and walk to you, but he just doesn't right now."

Scott Stapp from Creed's recent psychotic outburst was due to Bipolar disorder. He's early 40's and just now diagnosed.
http://www.people.com/article/scott-stapp-bipolar-disorder-creed-singer-talks
-
Oh wow Ready,
I hadn't heard about Scott's break down. He's one of my favorite singers. Just wow.
-
So sad. He was REALLY out there, and of course some of the celebrity tabloid sites had fun with that. Even some of the comments about this now are like, "yeah, but he's an addict! He'll never stay sober!" - completely unsympathetic to the fact that a lot of bipolar people self-medicate with drugs and alcohol, and now that he's receiving treatment, he can get on top of it. Or my favorite, "I thought he was born again!" - as though that cures bipolar disorder, or that it's funny someone would be saved and then get sick. People love to watch others fall, and it's no wonder so many choose to withdraw from society for fear of judgment.
-
What about Charlie Sheen and his escapade. He really went off the deep end. Can you pull MLC out of that somehow? There were drugs and alcohol involved so you don't know how many brain cells he's burned over the years. But his behavior kinda seems like an extreme MLC.
-

I agree. When I heard the Scott Stapp thing it immediately reminded me of the whole "winning" thing with Charlie. He had about two weeks of over the top crazy, then went back to narcissistic run of the mill crazy. I wonder if he hasn't always been a bit bipolar, self-medicating with the drugs and booze? All of the women and sabotaging his relationships because of bipolar hypersexuality? Of course it's all just speculation, but we ascribe a lot to people as "bad behavior" that probably has more below the surface.
-
I'm going to throw one name out there. Maybe this is MLC or not. Tiger Woods. His father, who had a huge influence on him, passed away a couple years prior to his break up from his W. Then, had several public affairs that have led to other break ups. He just doesn't seem like he is "all there" mentally. Perhaps a MLC? Not sure. Golf is a majority mental game and if he isn't thinking straight, he won't perform. He seems to have lost that edge that he used to have. Interesting to see what happens moving forward with him.

I think you're on to it. Don't know how much of a serial cheater he was prior to his father's death, but certainly, the public change in him after that illustrates more than just a grief shift going on. But when you think about it, this guy didn't have a normal life growing up due to his gift, and was so successful so young, there were a lot of lessons he didn't learn. I think biochemistry plays the biggest role, but certainly the things those changes bring to the table reflect back on what he may have "missed". Will be watching where he ultimately ends up with it.
