Just wanted to put my feelers out there to see if there was interest to organise a weekend to meet and catch up for the Australian LBSs (or anybody wanting to travel to Australia and needed a reason.)
There was a meet-up last year in Melbourne that I could not attend, so I thought I try to organise one this year so I can make it...
My thoughts at the moment would be either Brisbane or Sunshine Coast or Gold Coast as they should be easy enough to get too. I'm a BNE local.
Regarding time line I was thinking either July, September or Nov/Dec.
If you are interested, please reply and let me know what times would suit you best.

Hello PB
I did go to the meetup in Melbourne which was just great so I am up for another.
Let's extend the invite to the kiwis on the board also. Fidelle and blackhen flew in to Melbourne and it was fab. Easy flights from NZ to Q. Probably quicker from Auckland than for me from adelaide!
Time wise...
Nov /dec are often busy times with school finishing and Xmas lurking
Sept or July could work.
My preference would be July - chance to escape winter for a bit
We need a moderator to make this a sticky so it stays on the front page
-
If I can make it I will
Sounds like a great idea.
Just need to juggle kids and work
Look forward to seeing what dates u come up with
-
I'll keep watching this thread. Very interested :)
My brother lives in Wellington Point.
It would just be a matter of finances (even more so now ::) ::)) and the timing of the weekend.
Great idea PB.

I'm in!
Whoohooo!!!

I've never posted before, have been reading along for 2yrs now. This site has been my saviour. Would love to meet up with others going through the same thing. I live in Nth Qld with 3D's & S15. H is a clinging boomerang & I have just reset NC boundaries for me as his constant turning up to the house was making detachment too difficult. I have to totally agree with the saying "This is the worst thing that has ever happened to me but it is also the best thing that has ever happened" I feel strong now & my self-love tank fills a little more every day. Thank you everyone on this forum for your guidance and support.

Welcome survival! Glad this site has helped you.mit has greatly helped me too. Have a think about starting a thread of your own so we can learn your story and be there to help you alone way, reading is great but posting is also really helpful!!
-
Hi Survival, looking forward to catching up with you on your thread. :)
PB, I'm really keen as well. It would come down to finances for me too, but would love it! Will keep up with your plans. Thanks for starting this.
-
Hi PB,
Great idea. As with others it will depend on finances and time frame.
Would be great to meet others going through this nightmare.

Thanks for the meet-up idea PB, sounds great. I will definitely be there BUT, I won't be due any leave from work until early 2016 as I have started a new job and just can't arrange the time off.
I also need some time to save up.
Are you thinking of making this over a weekend? Maybe come up with some dates and I can see what is possible.
I suppose I could try and organise this over some scheduled days off. My MIL has a time share at the Gold Coast, a street back from the beach. I think it sleeps six people and the cost would be very minimal. Just food and wine ;D
I would have to ask but no-one ever wants to go up there, so I can't see it as a problem.
Let me know your thoughts.
-
Sounds like money and thus time to prepare is the biggest hurdle...
Yes my plan would be to do it on a weekend. Maybe Friday to Sunday if people can get the Fridays off for travel. Maybe 18/9-20/9 would suit? (one of my Kid-free weekends) That should still be far enough away from Xmas stress, hits no school holidays, and give people about 7 month notice.
What do people think of that timeline?
-
That weekend won't work for me unfortunately - it's my birthday! Plus I'm already headed to Darwin then for a conference.
But if it works for everyone else then plan away... I'll catch up at the next meetup .... plans don't have to revolve around me ... After all I'm not an MLCer ;D
-
Would October 16-18 suit better?
-
Yes it would PB but like I said don't necessarily revolve around me...I appreciate your quick response though :)
Let's put the two weekends out there and see what happens!!!
The last meetup was so great, I hope lots jump on board
-
Alright, lets use a poll to see what option suits best...
Poll will let you change your selections, so if life changes (like it never does, right?), you can change your availability.
-
Hi PB.
Seems like we have our kids on opposite weekends. I probably wont have nay spare cash this year for flights any way (now that the sewing machine has also broken down in addition to the TV) but will keep watching this thread.
-
Yeah SP, I think that was the problem with the last meetup too.
Other than that, it looks from the poll like the october slot is much preferred. What would people like to do? Should we arrange for a beach house? Rainforest? Cruise on a boat? Low key?
Let me know what you would like?
-
Ok, we are approximately 2 month out from the October date.
Who is serious about wanting to meet up and catch up?
I'm happy to help with organising activities/book restaurants etc and make a general plan for the weekend based on what people are interested in.
We could try to charter a small boat and go for a cruise around the Gold Coast, we can do a JetSki safari or canoeing, Bowling... We can hit the theme parks if people want or we can do low key events such as some bush walks through the Gold Coast hinterland or a BBQ in Southbank. Or bring forward any other ideas...
I think wine tasting was up there last time... I don't drink myself, but can look into it too.
-
Sorry PB, don't think m going to have funds this year. :'( I would have loved to have gone.
Thanks so much! Xx
-
Thanks for all your thoughts on organisation PB, I would love to be there.
We have just had a BIG shake-up at work and have been told not to apply to take any holidays until near Christmas as all staff are needed until that time.
Have you any idea how many can make it? I would be happy to make a time in the new year and after the kids are back at school - maybe March?
From now until Christmas and school holidays seems difficult for many.
-
Can't do it PB...
So sorry
Just had the heater die... $3500 to replace :o :o
I would be interested in a re-schedule maybe although I have some big plans for 2016 that are going to squeeze my budget...
house renovation plans
D20's 21st
my 50th birthday
5year "post BD survival celebration" European Christmas with my girls
I wonder if Sydney might be a better option? More central. Closer and therefore cheaper for me at least. Just a thought.
I would love to catch up again with all those at the Melbourne meetup and the new LBSs aboard since then -PB, chookie, devistated ... Plus the NZ crew
-
I am piking too, Polar Bear, so sorry.
I've had work commitments come up for October, unfortunately.
I'm visiting my daughter in Melbourne next month and will catch up with the Melbourne LBSers while there, maybe you could join us?
I would be up for a Sydney or a Gold Coast trip in 2016. March sounds good.
Or you lot could come over our side of the ditch?
-
I would love to get on a plane and go to QLD or anywhere but I won't have the funds for that. I'm also 50 next year and was hoping to be able to do something 'extravagant' like hop on a plane but ExH put a stop to that.
So for a while I'm afraid I can only do Melbourne meet ups ;(
Sorry PB. Thanks for organising though :) :)and I'm sure one day we will have a QLD meet up.
Hugs,
SP

Looks like we don't have any numbers, but also looks like Melbourne seems to be the MLC central... :'(
I guess it falls in line with the leaked Ashley-Madison data from yesterday that put Melbourne at #5 world wide! Ahead of much larger cities... :D
