Heros Spouse Mission statement includes:
Not all community members share religious beliefs; this is a community for all Faiths; please be polite and respectful.
We make no judgments; all are welcome. This is a place of love and support, not a place to degrade and insult others—including your MLC spouse.
Though heavily influenced by Christianity, people of all Faiths are welcome.
Though most of us are heterosexual, we do not discriminate based on sexual orientation.

Stop implying, X. Nothing derogatory was said or mentioned.
Thundaar, pull the other one. You were, in series, stereotyping and derogatory toward Muslims (there are Muslims posting here), immigrants (don't think you're of native descent, are you?), and gay/homosexuals (there are LGBT posters here).
You have said you do believe there are good people (though members of the above groups don't seem to fall easily into that category for you). I have come to understand, through the nonsense you have posted, that you are not one of the good people. I'm tapping out.
-
OSB, how tolerant you are of others views. Glad youre the hero in at least your life but do not accuse me of bigotry for quoting facts.
Funny irony is that the Obama ban was in response to the terrorist activity in my college town. I was there when it was going down. Full circle.
-
Thundarr,
Could you explain to me how your religious freedom is threatened if say Rainbow and her partner go to the same church and register their civil union as marriage. They love each other, the same way you love woman, the same way I love a man. And God knows they are not immune from the same issues in their relationships as we are. They face and deal with betrayals, financial and personal responsibilities, child and pet care issues, etc the same was as we all do. So why can't they love and be called spouses, and get protection under the law the same way we do?
I would have not problem with that. As long as we preach and practice love and respect towards each other. I am not a Catholic, but I really like current Pope, such a wise and kind man. Please, pay attention to what he is saying.
Considering the Rainbow flag over White House, I felt happy for my LBTG friends, finally there was a statement that ensured that they will be treated equally, regardless of who they chose to love.
I think it is really a shame for all of us to spend these much time on hating, detesting, and demonizing each other. My ancestors survived the horrifying Genocide, they were singled out based on their race, I take things like this very seriously. It is literally a miracle, that I live today, I am honored to have two children and be the one who continues my ancestors' legacy. These acts of Genocide have one thing in common hatred based on ungrounded fears and ignorance. Now Trump has been hating Mexicans, women, blacks, Muslims, Jews, etc. Aren't we fed up with this? There are swastikas drawn on the walls if Jewish Community Center in America of 21 century. It is abhorrent, and it comes from the chief strategist Benon. You know President's along rights and privileges also have responsibilities. It is President's responsibility to make sure that the rhetoric of hate and violence is not tolerated. Is our President up to this task. Most certainly no.
I understand how someone like you would feel Thundarr. With the election of Obama, many people felt insecure, because it was the first time that we had Black President. I understand it is not easy for many people in your community too. In fact, all of my in-laws would have had the same arguments like you. Now with Trump they feel that they can just go back to status quo, or the way it was before. But guess what, there is no going back in the history. Only forward, even if the process meets temporary set backs.

Thundarr you're posting lies. There's no chaos in Sweden. My entire family is there, and it is still one of the top OECD countries (ahead of the US). You post these lies on Facebook also. Ignorant, clueless people buy into that stuff when it has been proven that people in Macedonia invent these false stories and have ads and each time gullible people like yourself click on them, they get paid.

Evas,
I cover Sweden as one of the countries, for my work. I read news from Sweden in search of work-related information every month. I can attest that Sweden has one of the top functioning institutions of Government. The policy making process is very smooth and orderly. In fact, I would not mind moving there with my children.
-
Karmir, stop the patronizing. It's just sad. To imply I felt "hopeless" because we had a black president is pure BS. Take your "someone like you" comment and shove it. You're the ignorant, intolerant one to even make such dismissive statements toward those who disagree with you.
People shouldn't have something they don't believe in shoved down their throats. How would you feel if Trump shined a Confederate flag or a cross on the White House? Don't bother to mention the differences, it would be a big middle finger to the other side. Obama was all about exploiting anger and hatred to divide the country for his own gain. He martyred criminals and vilified the police. He alienated Christians while refusing to even name Islamic terrorists. I despise him for what he did and not what he was.
On another note, have you guys given any thought by how your attacks on me might be scaring any who might agree from posting? Name-calling, accusing and misrepresenting what I've said is something many would hope to avoid. OP and I aren't afraid to speak up but you may well be bullying others into losing their voice on a topic they may be passionate about. Are you okay with silencing other women or would you invite them to share their opinions in a respectful discussion? Food for thought.

Thundarr,
Let me explain something that I did to learn more about Muslims and Islamic culture. I am from NYC and I know Many Muslims, yet never knew much about their culture.
I personally find them to be very kind and peaceful. So after 9/11 I knew it was time for me to learn more because it seemed the news just got everything wrong for what I thought I knew.
So from 2001 until about 2009, I personally lived my life learning everything I could about Islam. Some would call a spiritual journey. I visited Mosques, I ate and prayed like they did and did everything I could to try to figure out why it was America had such a bias toward them when I personally never saw that any type of hatred ifrom them in the least.
Not once did I ever meet a 'terrorist' or anyone plotting to kill Christians, or anything that was of ill will. They were the kindest people I ever met!
I would suggest you do the same or something like that to actually meet people in person and learn their way of life. You just may be surprised, yet you will defiantly learn a whole lot you never knew before.
This message goes to anyone who might be interested in learning about any people, any culture, any religion in this country or anywhere else. Expand your horizons and meet some really nice people, learn new things you just may never have if you never went out your way to.
-
Elegance, I know several Muslims and have nothing negative to say about any of them. As I said, the vast majority are wonderful people but some are VERY bad. We have plenty of room for the good but none for the bad.
-
So it's ok for the 'bad' Americans to stay?
Do you have any proof, or are you just going by what someone told you?
-
Proof that there are militant Islamic terrorists? Uh, 9/12. Pulse nightclub. Bowling Green. San Bernardino. Do you not believe they exist?
Bad Americans should be in jail. We don't deport citizens when they commit horrible crimes like many countries do. We handle our own, but the last thing we need is their established criminals who they won't allow back in over here and unfortunately we already have many here.

In defense of California seeking Federal help, do you realize that California is the source of more agricultural products than any other state? That if the largest dam in the country were to fail, that it could devastate agriculture that feeds the entire country, as well as is a source of export income for the nation? Prices would be higher for you, and there might even be shortages of some things. This might inform you better about how important a dam in California is for you there in Texas:
http://www.westernfarmpress.com/tree-nuts/what-happens-if-us-loses-california-food-production
-
Many of those crimes you mentioned were done by Americans.
Do you have any idea why some do those crimes?
Because of the oppression, discrimination and bigotry of many in this country. They were fed up and that is the way they chose to express it.
9/11 I can't say for sure it was done by Muslims. That is still up in the air for me. I am no conspiracy theorist, I admit I just have no answers.
Yet a man who lived in a cave to me is a reach and far fetched. It was just never proven to me where I can say yea Osama did it. I just don't know for sure who did.
-
Thundarr,
The president you keep defending keeps lying. And you continue to spread his lies.

You're no conspiracy theorist but don't believe Muslim terrorists did 9/11? What about San Bernardino or the Pulse nightclub? All the other terror attacks in the world? Do you only trust the media when they paint a negative picture of Trump?
-
Perhaps not a single terror attack, but definitely a drastic increase in violent crimes and especially rapes:

Are you kidding me Thundarr???
That's ONE politician's idea, and actually most people seem to be against that. What does that have to do with the terror attack that Trump said took place in Sweden on Friday?
I'm so sick of Trump's lies and those who keep defending him.
-
Double standards much?

Since Islam means peace, it is impossible to be an "Islamic terrorist" as anyone committing those violent acts is automatically NOT following the faith. There are folks who twist the meaning of a faith to justify their actions. That does not make them followers of the faith.
You have written repeatedly that there are no attacks on Muslims. Please read about what is happening in Syria. Not all Syrian refugees are Christian. If one is Muslim and does not believe in the recreation of the Caliphate, one is fair game for being killed.
Our intelligence community was fair warned about the 9/11 attackers and did not act on the intelligence. Since then, the domestic attacks were committed by Americans. Our involvement in Iraq on the basis of the "weapons of mass destruction", which turned out to be a pretense, laid the groundwork for the upsurge in the violence by the terrorists.
Trump has succeeded in revving up his base and tapping into fear of difference. Thundaar- within your lifetime, white Christians will make up a minority in this country. You cannot fight the sea change of demographics. White privilege, white male privilege, has seen its apogee and no matter what Trump, Bannon, Miller and Spencer do, the diversity of our nation will continue.
-
Question for all, just give a yes or no and don't analyze:
Should Muslim bakeries in the U.S. be required to make wedding cakes for gay weddings?
Secondly, FTT, never did I say that Muslims were not targeted in terror attacks but just that the terror attacks HERE have not targeted Muslims specifically. Christians are still targets around the world, and Muslims are in the Middle East. And while it appears the reports of a terror attack in Sweden were inaccurate I think we can all agree the world has become a more dangerous place.
As for whether there is such a thing as an "Islamic terrorist," I beg to differ on anyone saying they're not Islamic when they practice the religion from their interpretation. They likely feel they're the good guys and us the infidels and I see no difference than if they were to say we're not Christians because abortion is legal and most Americans have sex outside of marriage. Am I not Catholic because I have, or because I've used birth control? Are we not Christian since we're divorced and God hates divorce? I call BS on saying they're not Islamic and I know the Pope said just that today. I'm not a big fan of him either, btw, and I'm sure he's not pro-America.
-
Thundarr,
I was not patronizing you, but I know many people like you who felt threatened by Obama. Please, maintain respectful tone. We can disagree on issues but nobody gave you right to tell me to shove it. I will maintain my right to speak about issues that I care about. Isn't it how Trump behaves. Bullying and shutting down media, when he finds discussion/question a bit challanging for his comfort .
You remind me of Don Quixote. If you have not read Servantes, please do.
-
M-W definition of patronizing:
1.
treat with an apparent kindness that betrays a feeling of superiority.
"“She's a good-hearted girl,” he said in a patronizing voice"
synonyms: treat condescendingly, condescend to, look down on, talk down to, put down, treat like a child, treat with disdain More
You dismissed my arguments as being prejudiced due to having a black president. I was actually all FOR having a black president and was soundly disappointed that he turned out to be nothing more than a race-baiting puppet of Pelosi and Soros. But, given his lack of qualifications I guess doing what he was told was all we should've expected. At least Trump surrounds himself with people who understand defense and how the military works such as Generals Mattie and Kelly. Obama picked a freaking lawyer to defend our borders because he had donated a lot to his campaign. Complain about Trump's picks all you will, but be fair in pointing out Obama's shortcomings as well.
-
Just a grammar point. Muslim is a noun or adjective used to describe a person who follows the religion of Islam. Islam is the noun used to refer to the religion. Therefore, Islamic is an adjective derived from the word for the religion and is used to refer to things other than people. Thus you can have a Muslim terrorist but not an Islamic terrorist.
And also I would like to point out that ForTheTrees assertion that they are not Muslim is a non-Muslim apologist perspective and one that most Muslims would not be willing to subscribe to. Muslims are taught not to question whether another Muslim is Muslim or not. It is taught that if one questions whether someone is Muslim or not, it means that either the person who they are questioning, or the questioner is not Muslim. It's up to God to decide things like this. It doesn't mean they are necessarily good Muslims, just that it is no one's business to decide whether someone else is Muslim or not.
-
Sure. Why would they even need to know if the wedding cake is for a gay marriage or not?
That's no ones business.
What difference should it make to them? Their a bakery.
-

Exactly. They have a product for sale they sell it to the person who can afford it.

Thundarr,
Which of Trump's cabinet pick is qualified? Rick Perry, the guy who did not know that Secretary of Energy is responsible for Nuclear Regulatory Agency, Betsy de Vos, who was oblivious to the fact that there is a Law that she is supposed to enforce, or the nominee for labor secretary, that even the Republicans could not vote for. Does it bother you at all that the net worth of his cabinet equals to the net worth of 40% of American households. These are the issues that we need to talk about, and not how appointing Ivanka Trump to the administration makes Trump, all of sudden a champion for women's rights notwithstanding his actions and own pronouncements.
In previous threads I wrote about the shortcomings of Obama, Hillary Clinton, and Democratic Party.

To my Trump-supporting friends, we are scared of you
Commentary Nov 10
Written by Jason Darr, Contributor
Connect with Jason Darr, Dallas News
To my friends on the Right:
We're terrified of you.
This isn't a matter of disliking policy or disagreeing on what direction the country should go in. This is a real terror concerning you, what you believe, and who you have elected.
As a white guy, (and I know how much you hate hearing about that distinction) I have the least to be afraid of. I'm in a reviled religious minority, but I can hide in plain sight. I've had to lie about my beliefs before and it feels horrible, but I'm afforded that privilege in order to avoid your judgement. So many other groups can't. They're scared. And I'm scared for them.
I'm scared for my gay friends and family. The Right has judged them for decades now, ranging from far-away scorn to physical violence and murder. After lifelong battles, too late for so many, they won the right to marry -- a right you've always had. Now that right will be questioned and possibly taken away. The Right kept fighting the right to adopt even after Obergefell. They're still fighting treating gay marriages the same as straight ones, in my very own state. We are scared about these rights being rolled back. We are scared that you have elected a vice president who supports sending gay people into therapy so that they can be "fixed" and made straight, like him. We are scared that the attacks will increase again.
Perhaps you don't support these things. But you have voted for people that do.
I'm scared for my transgender friends. They were already in mortal fear that someone from the Right would catch them using the "wrong" bathroom. Not a fear of the law, but a fear of being attacked. Last night a Republican who said he would PERSONALLY be the one instigating such attacks became sheriff in my county.
Perhaps you don't support that. But you have voted for people that do.
I'm scared for my Muslim friends. I have now seen two separate accounts of Muslim friends of friends being physically attacked last night and told to go back to their own country. Both were born in the U.S.
Perhaps you don't support that. But you have voted for people that do.
I'm scared for my Hispanic friends. So many will now face having their families broken up, not to mention the discrimination from an overt racist. A man who thinks Hispanic people can't preside over his cases will now be in charge of filling vacancies on the judiciary.
Perhaps you don't support that. But you have voted for people that do.
And most importantly I'm scared for my female friends. I am TERRIFIED for my female friends. I'm scared for my friends that recounted the times they were groped exactly in the manner Trump described himself doing on his despicable tape. I'm scared for the ones who have had panic attacks after reading about the time he raped his wife.
I'm scared that after all the progress we seemed to have made in that area, the president will be someone who said women being in the workplace is a problem. A president who said that if he got home and dinner wasn't ready that he would go through the roof. A president who talks on camera about young girls and how he'll be dating them in a few years. A president who sexualizes his own daughters. A president who attacks his female opponents by saying: "Just look at her face." A president who wakes up in the middle of the night to attack a woman who says he acted inappropriately towards her. A president who says only women with large breasts can be attractive. That's without even touching all of the policies that will put women's rights and lives at risk here soon.
Perhaps you don't support that. But you have voted for people that do.
I don't know how this country is going to move forward, but this is not a normal "our side lost." This isn't sour grapes. We're scared of you. We don't understand you. And we are, quite frankly, right now terrified of what you've done to the government. (Please don't draw any comparisons to the economics of Barack Obama. NOTHING there approaches the physical danger people are afraid of right now.)
I hope there's a way past this, but we can't understand how you can look past all of the hatred, bigotry, and judgement and say, "Well those things are bad, but I'm ok with electing people like that."
==============================================================================
Thundarr, your "vile" comments frighten us. Your "twisted" patriotism, horrifies us. Your "bigoted" conclusions, disgust us. Your "dogmatic" religious beliefs, cause us to doubt your devotion. Your "devotion" to a man who gropes women and raped his wife, grades women's appearance, sexualizes women, stereotypes women, shows us your TRUE thoughts about women and their place in your society. Warns us to be very, very afraid. BUT not of Muslim Terrorist, but of scared white boys like you!
We are afraid of you Thundarr, we should be!
Regarding an Islamic baker, preparing a wedding cake for a "gay marriage": YES, that baker should have to make such a cake because in a free and democratic country like America, gay marriages are now recognized and LEGAL. Make the cake, congratulate the happy couple, wish them a happy life and be proud of contributing to their SPECIAL DAY.
We are afraid of you and people like you. Your type walk amongst us, undetectable. We are afraid. Very afraid. We all should be.

Thank you Stayed, very good post. Thundarr, please do not throw at me definitions from the dictionary. Even though English is only the third language that I speak fluently out of six Languages, I know the meaning of the word.
-
Oh and another correction on ForTheTrees post. Islam does not mean "peace", although it is related to that word in the Arabic language (salam). Islam actually means "submission (to the will of God)."
-
Hi Stayed,
What a wonderful post. Great to see you post! How are things?
Thundarr,
It appears to me you are the minority here. It also appears to me you may not realize that you just may live in a White male privilege bubble. Could that be possible?
Go out and live your life and include others who are not your same demographic. Learn all you can. Experience is the spice of life.
There is a whole lot you are missing out on because of this fear and privilege.
It's strange to me that Republicans are the ones who have the biggest problem with Muslims because to me (and I speak from experience) there are just so many similarities.
-
Question for all, just give a yes or no and don't analyze:
Should Muslim bakeries in the U.S. be required to make wedding cakes for gay weddings?
Not analyzing but why mention Muslims when the case you obviously are inspired by was a Christian run bakery?

I think we can all agree the world has become a more dangerous place.
More dangerous than when? before WWII, before the spread of AIDS, before people started smoking tobacco, before the invention of the automobile and related accidents, before the invention of drones or the internet by the US military? Is it really more dangerous or are you just perceiving it that way?
The problem with such generalizations is that it makes it seem like we are all going to die in terrorist attacks when we are more likely to die of a slip and fall in our bathroom or a heart attack. It's like a dog biting a man does not make the news, but a man biting a dog does. People tend to irrationally worry more about the unlikely events than the likely ones.
If you really face an imminent threat every day you would be desensitized to it, not worrying. I've lived somewhere that violent political protests and politically motivated terror attacks were pretty much a daily event for a long time. Where you are in a taxi and your discussion with the driver is what is the best route to get home to avoid passing through a crowd of stone throwing youth or molotov cocktails. I've seen all the cars smashed up in my block during clashes that led to the death of someone around the corner. A bomb went off 3 blocks away one night. I've been a subway train filled with tear gas. That's just a few examples. I could multiply them. If you really are worrying that much about terrorism, then you really have nothing to worry about. Because when it is a real and present threat, you learn to get on with your life and not let fear control you.
Trying to find a needle in a haystack in preventing the one terrorist who is going to come to your suburban neighborhood and set off a bomb is impossible. I'm sorry, but it is impossible. Immigration officers can only do their best but it will never hermetically seal you off in a bubble. Forget about it. The best way to prevent such violence is to deal with the political issues behind such violence. Yes, I said political, because the fact that the violence is from people of one religion perpetrated on another is only a distraction from the political injustices that people feel the need to remedy. People like OBL may couch it in religious terms, but ultimately that's not the reason behind it.
-
I agree with you completely, C4 It all comes to basic principles of risk management, while dealing with terrorism, or any other danger.
Thundarr,
If a valid credit card holding Orangutan approaches the Muslim baker and asks for cake, yes that baker should and most probably will happily bake the cake. Does it really matter?
-
Question for all, just give a yes or no and don't analyze:
Should Muslim bakeries in the U.S. be required to make wedding cakes for gay weddings?
It's the business owner's prerogative if he/she want's to,Not mine.
It would be wise to to earn a profit yet that is not my place to make him or her to bake it, especially if it goes against his or her religion.
-
I think we can all agree the world has become a more dangerous place.
I don't agree with the words or thoughts that the wold has become more dangerous.
I feel you have woken up finally out of the false dream that everything has been ok. The world has always been dangerous, yet not in the ways you think.
Sounds to me you are letting your fear talk.
-
Stayed - You're irrelevant. Just go back to your communal narcissistic bubble and don't bother commenting to me again. Thank you.
Changing - Thank you for putting things so succinctly. I'm sorry you've found yourself in those situations and I don't want to see that here. I know that my kids and I are as safe as can be (sitting on a college campus as I type this) but that doesn't mean other kids in this country are. I know the reasons we got to this point are very complex and that the US is greatly at fault, as is Israel, but that doesn't make it right. Trump said during the campaign that his ultimate goal was to.broker a deal between Israel and Palestine and I know he sees that as what will put him into a very elite category. Whatever his motives, this will benefit us all as will a good relationship with Russia. Despite it all I really do think Trump wants peace.
Incidentally, I condemned the IRA and their terrorist actions even though they were fellow Caucasian Catholics. I would say the exact same thing about them as I would the Muslim terrorists (thanks for the clarification, btw) if they were our enemy.

Deeming opposing political views as vile, twisted, and bigoted is exactly what led to this election result and will lead to more.
The center of this country is experiencing a vastly different economic trajectory from the coast.
Those without a college education are competing with migrant labor.
Those with a college education are benefitting from low cost immigrant services.
Throughout our history we have had fluctuating amounts of immigration, but we've always been a country of immigrants. Taking a position of moving it up or down or targeting on group vs another is not a wrong or right, it's a position which generally can be predicted in a voter by seeing how he/she is being directly impacted.
I voted for trump not out of devotion and not because I approved of the mans view of women. I voted what was, IMO, the lesser of two evils. I voted for a reduction in immigration rates, and an enforcement of existing laws, and I voted for a review of free trade policies that haven't really been free, but they have been extremely profitable for the super rich. The rest of his positions were secondary at best.
As to watching friends and "journalist"heads explode, that was simply bonus points for me. I understood the initial shock, as the polls were so wrong, but as time wore on and we heard about fake news, and voter recount challenges, and one excuse after another, it really does become pure entertainment.
I hope the left gets organized and can create a tea party like response. That is good, healthy, and appropriate. I hope the legislative and judicial branches are active and challenging to the executive branch. That is the strength of our system. I hope I never in my lifetime, accuse others of being vile, bigoted, and horrifying simply for supporting a mainstream candidate, because I suspect that comes from a place where I stopped trying to understand, and because I've been treated that way myself here and in other settings in the last 60 days.

Ok to the Trump voters I have a question.
I am mixed with Native American. I out of everyone has the right to not be harassed in this country for my immigration status. I was born in NYC.
YET am constantly because I do happen to look Latino which I am not in the least.
Is that type of discrimination what you all voted for? Please help me understand.
-
Stayed, you're not important enough to me to hit a nerve. I know you're hoping for a nasty response from me so that you can run back to the mod board and try to get me banned like you have 100 times before, but just like Hillary you always fall short. Now I'm just going to ignore you from now on. Goodbye.
Elegance, please don't believe the misrepresentation of Trump voters. None of my friends who voted for him did so out of hatred or spite but rather the need for a change from what we had. Obama's America was imploding and the So islists were trying to take over which basically would destroy the country from the inside out. The unemployment numbers are rigged as it only counts those eligible for benefits and other stats were manipulated as well. Isn't it troubling that so many Americans needed Obamacare due to not working full-time? We believed that with increased opportunities we could see an economic boom while protecting American workers from losing their jobs to foreign countries. We're not racists, bigots or anti-gay. We're pro-American and did vote for the lesser of two evils. Most of us believe in America first but also in the need to help those in need around the world. We would never advocate for anyone to be mistreated.
-
Elegance--short answer: No. but I only speak for myself.
Stayed--you're a poster child for the cliches of a open minded tolerant liberal. I love you, but why be so quick to deteriorate to racial and gender based stereotypes? I don't care what race my children marry, or the racial profile of my country. I celebrate my nieces and nephews and the beautiful diversity of them. As I mentioned previously, I have no respect for how John f Kennedy, bill Clinton, or Donald trump treat women but some of them have been fantastic leaders and presidents.
-
Thundaar - the interesting thing is I believe that the majority of trump voters are decent people. But I also know that since his election I have had people post on my personal facebook page that I am not a real American because I am an immigrant. Though I came here legally and have lived, worked, and paid taxes in America for well over 20 years - having been a citizen for a good chunk of those years. I have also had people call me lazy and refer to the people who live in my mostly black suburb monkeys. It's hard to put that behind you. I was called lazy based simply on my choice to attend a womens march. Someone suggested if I had a job or was a good mother I would not have had the time (on a Saturday) to attend. i have no respect for that and it becomes harder to take the Trump administration seriously when a vocal minority of supporters are using it as an opportunity to be publicly hateful and that behavior isn't being denounced. Every time trump has been given the opportunity to denounce things he creates further distance. For example when asked if he would engage the CBC he asked the black reporter if they were friends if hers. When asked about the black community he immediately discussed the " crime ridden inner-cities". That response offends me. I do not nor have I ever lived in any inner city. My neighborhood is relatively wealthy. It feels as though there is no awareness that minoritues are heterogeneous and don't all have deplorable situations where we dodge bullets and have no health care. As he so famously asked "what do I have to lose?" Lots. I have lots to lose. The fact that he isn't aware of that is shocking.
-
RT, I'm both part Native American and part descended from immigrants. I can't speak for the minority, but I denounce any racial or ethnic stereotyping and abuse. I'm sorry that someone insulted you in such a way and I hope you blocked them. I have many Trump haters on my FB page and love each and every one of them, even when we engage in spirited debates like this one. Ask Evas about how many times we e debated on FB and not once have I called her a derogatory name or told her to leave the country. That's ridiculous. I'm sure she's contributed just as much in her time here as anyone and deserves the same privileges.
-
Speaking as an anti-Trumpian, my fear is that our democratic system is at risk with his approach to the rule of law, the judiciary, qualifications for the cabinet positions, and his utter lack of understanding of the need to get and read the daily briefing- not the 9 bullet point version now and again. His ignorance is worrisome. He had to stop mid-call with Putin to ask what the New Start Treaty was. He did not know what the CBC is. He uses language that is more simplified than USAToday and often cannot be bothered to include a verb. He repeats falsehoods with a seemingly impassioned belief that repetition leads to veracity. The GOP appears to be opting for a power grab instead of protecting our democratic ideals.
Obama is literate, thoughtful, prudent, open-minded, deliberate, worldly, NOT impulsive, not misogynistic, not boastful, not mendacious and did not tank this country. He, not Trump, inherited the mess of the Great Recession caused by banks and other financial institutions leveraging loans 40:1 and then claiming they were to big to fail. Now we face the undoing of the very regulations that were instituted to avoid a repeat of the financial debacle.
There will be more grass roots demonstrations like the Women´s March as the populace has reached a point of intolerance for the loss of basic human rights.
-
Changing - Thank you for putting things so succinctly. I'm sorry you've found yourself in those situations and I don't want to see that here.
But you will likely see it if Trump continues down this path. And if it happens, it will be because it is necessary.
-
Elray, how is it NOT vile or bigoted to support someone who has so blatantly expressed misogyny (Billy Bush was fired for the same reason), who mocked a physically handicapped reporter (and please Thundarr, don't try to file that under "debunked", we have all seen the clip), who has refused entrance into the country for green cardholders? Not to mention the many many lies.
-
Did you support bill Clinton knowing what he admitted to doing and what he was accused of doing to women?
If I recall, obamas was quick to apologize for making fun of the special olympics, so I would assume your issue isn't the mocking but the lack of an apology. He always claimed there was no insult intended, but we've discussed this plenty.
In The 90 day ban, I believe green card holders were inconvenienced less than a day before green card status was clarified but That entire executive action was sloppy.
-
correction- ...too (not to) big to fail...
-
Thundarr, for the record, I have never suggested anybody be BANNED from the forum. Not one single person ever. If you heard differently, then you have been either misinformed or outright LIED to. Seeing as you seem to believe every word trump says, I guess it would be easy for you to believe I might do something like that.
Quite frankly, I have always been up front and said what I thought directly to the person/s involved. Most people realize fairly quickly with me, that I am not going to talk behind their backs, if I have a grievance, I say it to them directly. Believe me, if I had suggested you be banned from the forum, I would have told you personally and why. I believe, if you don't like what anybody has to say, then stay off their thread. Maybe that's why you're upset with me, because I very seldom went on your thread and posted next to never. The few times I went on your thread, was because somebody was suggesting you be banned and I wanted to see if they had a good reason to be suggesting such a thing. Quite frankly, I never felt you said anything too terribly outrageous and if people didn't like it, they should stay off your thread. We're all adults here, able to choose whose threads we wanted to read or not. I was quite outspoken about BANNING anybody from the forum, as I truly felt that all LBS's needed a safe place to come.
Believe me or not, up to you.
I believe we have much to fear. I think trump is poison, his ignorance of the real world is scarily profound. I think he will destroy your country and probably other countries as well. I have read quite extensively about Hitler and many people felt the same about him, as you and others feel about trump. There is much in common between these two men, I am sorry that history is probably going to repeat itself.
I was so proud of the United States when you elected a black president. I truly believed that with such steady, strong leadership the world was going to become a fairer place for everybody. People of colour, women in general, homosexuals, trans genders, whatever. I truly believed the world was on it's way to a tolerant, inclusive, equal opportunity conscience and I truly believed the United States of America was leading the way.
I am just so terribly disappointed.
Hugs Stayed
-
Thank you, Stayed. Apology accepted (if indeed that's what it was). In hindsight I do think I had you mixed up with someone else and you probably know who I'm talking about. So for that mistake on my part, I offer an apology.
Trump clarified today that he was referring to a report about Sweden on Foxnews that I'll link to. He never actually said there was a terror attack in Sweden but since they were grouped in the sentence with Germany it's easily inferred.
Trump didn't even know the reporter was disabled. He used the same gesture for years to mock others such as Ted Cruz. He simply meant whoever he was mocking was either scared or unsure of themselves. The proof is out there if you take time to look.
Lastly, I think everyone is panicking WAY too soon. The ER at my local hospital has been slammed with people who think they're going to lose their insurance but no plan proposed does that. Rand Paul says he is finalizing a plan that will do everything Obamacare did for less cost. Give it some time, at least a year, to see how things fall and go from there. Several of us gave our spouses years to find their footing and get their head on straight, so I think we can give him a few more months. Politics aside, all of us Americans are on the same plane and he's piloting it. If he fails at his job we ALL lose.
-
It was I, or at least I was one of those, who thought someone should had been banned, Rugged. He was way past HS guidelines and code of conduct. He end being banned, after a very long time and doing things I am not allowed to talk of.
And I also happen to think you should, if not be banned, at least put on moderated posts. Same for Elray. You both have been disrespectul beyond belief, have not respect HS code of conduct and have been nasty to others.
If it was up to me, after all you have been posting in the Eletion threads, you would be banned. You are a repeated offender, Thundarr. You were crass towards woemn on your threads. Elray has not been much better, but, in his case, may call would be moderated posts.
I hope this leaves things clear. Stayed never wanted you, or anyone, banned. I am less tolerant with intolerance, disrespect towards people, other religions, people of colours, gay people, etc. My tolerance to those matters tends to be zero, and the person doing so would be banned.
There is no tolerance towards intolerance.
However, banning someone does not happen because I think it should happen. Same for posts being put in moderated mode. It happens because RCR and/or OP decided so.
-
Thundarr,
I agree that knee jerk reaction to current Administration and its actions is not going to be productive. We, as a citizens of this country, however should excercise all legal means available to us to keep our Government accountable. For that we should educate ourselves and keep abreast with events. It is our right and we should exercise it. I also believe it is fruitless to have Trump vs. Clinton comparisons. We now have Trump, and we should accept that fact, and look forward to engage in politics on a very grassroots level, so that Mr. Trump does not relax too much.
-
"There is no tolerance for intolerance", Anna's? My BS/ hypocrisy radar is blowing up at that remark. You only "tolerate" those who agree with you? Puh-lease!!!
-
Karmir, on your last post we finally agree 100%! See, common ground IS possible. :)
-
Trump cites (fake) attack in Sweden
http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/politics/onpolitics/2017/02/19/donald-trump-sweden-attack-carl-bildt/98127056/
I find it kind of funny. The real media Trump calls fake, incorrectly, then the actual fake news he falls for hook line and sinker and his followers listen to him. shame on Trump!
-
Thundarr, do not mock or insult me. There is no tolerance for intolerance. I tolerated people that are respectul. I do not tolerate bullies, nor people that are disrespectful. Regardless of their ideas being, or not being, similar to mine.
You have disrespected HS members and HS rule of conduct. What part of it do you not understand? You are in infringement of HS rules. By doing so, you can be banned or put on moderated posts.
HS has rules. You agreed to them when you signed on to become a member of the board.
-
Show me how I mocked or insulted you, Annej. I said nothing even close to what Evas and Stayed said so where's your disciplining of them? Could it be that your bias is showing through? I'll continue to both speak my mind and defend myself from attacks, all while calling out double standards like this. Disagree with me all you want but do NOT falsely accuse me of anything. Thank you.
-
The information you are quoting as facts are BLATANTLY false Thundarr. You can yell and scream, jump up and down and have as many wobbly as your chubby little body will let you, BUT your quoting FAKE FACTS! My goodness man, take a look at some real news and quite frankly.... FOX NEWS is not real.
What do you not understand about that? I live in the country next door to you... you might have heard of us, we're called CANADA. We get American news, local, international, national ... from CNN, MSNBC, CBC, BBC, Fox News, CNBC, as well as Canadian, hell even some Russian. I channel surf and quite frankly even Fox is STARTING to report some of trumps LIES and calling them false statements... gawd forbid if they were to call them LIES. Just because it comes from his yap, does not make it true! In fact, most folks have begun to realize that most everything that comes out of his mouth is a big fat LIE.
-
Stayed called me fat. That's discrimination!
Seriously, Stayed, I have no idea what's real and what's not and honestly none of us do. Journalistic integrity has gone the way of the dodo in favor of ratings and we're all the poorer. I have a friend who says that al-Jazeera is the most honest channel. How sad is that? We're all being manipulated and divided so maybe we need to focus our energies elsewhere.
-
I actually disagree about not knowing what's real. There are claims that have been made that are verifiable - things like him saying that he had the largest electoral college victory, the largest viewership of any inauguration, etc. Those are not things the media is manipulating. There is definitely some media spin but there always has been. It is very dangerous to imply that we don't know the truth. In many instances we do know the truth - sometimes that truth doesn't suit the Trump narrative. The trump counselor herself said they were using "alternative facts". That is dangerous and disgraceful. All presidents lie at times but I concerned about the sheer number of lies that are for no reason and then the deliberate attempt to discredit media. Once again, I say that is dangerous. Also, the idea of panicking too early - I have felt that trump is dangerous for the past 7 years or so. This is not a new concern for me. I think someone who can never admit mistakes and whose ego is so fragile is dangerous as a leader.
-
Thundarr, you often remark on women's bodies (as does the president) so why is it offensive when women remark on men's bodies? Perhaps this is why some women want to be covered up?
Don't make excuses for Trump. He said something happened LAST night in Sweden. Nothing happened Friday night in Sweden. He lied.
-
I think someone who can never admit mistakes and whose ego is so fragile is dangerous as a leader.
You know something Reallytrying... that is what bothers me the most too. Not once has trump apologized. Even when he was caught on tape outright lying. It's not just spliced tape... or tidbits... it's the entire comment, which we have seen. You know why it bothers us so much... because that is exactly what our SPOUSES tried to do to us. They would do things or same things, and when we would try to address us, they would tell us we obviously misunderstood.. or that they plain didn't say that. trump constantly gaslights us... just like our spouse did.
I CAN'T understand how ANY LBS cannot see that completely. We of all people should be the MOST aware that trump is LYING his a$$ off.
I just tossed that in there Thundarr... how did you like it? trump does that all the time to women. One of his outright proofs that he would never have touched a couple of those women that came out against him... he actually said... LOOK AT HER... I wouldn'[t have gone near her... not exact words but you get the gist I am sure...
-
There I think we have it. Trump triggers certain aspects of male MLC behavior. well said stayed.
The narcissism and the fabulist who turns facts and attacks at will.
The trolling, gas lighting, and enjoyment he takes in being controversial.
The tendency to divorce, date and marry women who seem to match trophy wife stereotypes.
I'm sure this goes deeper, and I in no way mean this as insulting or deragatory. The lbs experience does mark us and leave us emotionally predisposed to respond almost reflexively to certain stimuli.
-
As I pointed out I have felt this way about Trump long before BD or even a whisper of marital concerns. My issue with him is not a reflexive trigger based on being an lbs. it is the fact that as I said a leader unwilling to admit errors and so willing to manipulate information to suit his narrative is dangerous. He doesn't match the things I expect from a leader. Period! The fact that is election has intentionally or unintentionally emboldened a bigoted minority has only made it worse for me.
-
Brilliant, El!
-
A modest proposal...
The problem lies in that even conservative estimates of the percentage of Christians who are radicalized and vote in those politicians who called for the destruction of the Islamic world is 20%. We are at war with MILITANT Christianity because their goal is the destruction of our way of life and to either convert everyone else to Christianity or kill them. How many militant Christians have you met and how many would it take for you to realize THEY WANT YOU DEAD? One could argue that the Christian terrorists' cause is "just" as they are acting based upon their religious beliefs. The families of the Muslims whom the Christians shot in their mosques in Canada might disagree with your statement, as would the Iraq war survivors.
In America even pre-pubescent girls are kidnapped and forced to be prostitutes. You mean that Christian women can walk around freely over there without being told what to do or what to wear? They rape and beat women who don’t do what their male relatives tell them to do.
No Christian out there wants to kill me, or you or any of us? WTH? Saying that the only ones who need worry about radicalized Christians are other Christians is ridiculous. They SHOOT MUSLIMS IN THE STREET. Most people are good. But some are bad ones. That’s not generalizing.
Do you think this sounds crazy? Bigoted? Something that came off an ISIS website? I copy/pasted Thundarr's own words, and simply substituted Christian for Muslim, adjusting for the relevant headlines. If that's not sufficiently disturbing for you, just substitute the term Jew. Are you unsettled yet? I'm not Muslim, Christian or Jewish, and I'm appalled. Can we stop saying this form of hate speech is morally justifiable?
-
That was brilliant osb.
-

My issue with him is not a reflexive trigger based on being an lbs. it is the fact that as I said a leader unwilling to admit errors and so willing to manipulate information to suit his narrative is dangerous.
I am in the same boat as you. My feelings about Trump are triggered by some things I went through long before BD that have nothing to do with my husband and me. They have to do with someone very similar and very powerful that I got to know about quite quite well.
-

You can't be serious. You compare him to an MLCer and then say that is ok? You are joking, right? If he fails at this job, the whole world loses.
-
You can change the story of the Holocaust to read that it was Jews executing Nazis, too, but that won't bring back any of the dead. I've never in my life seem so many blindly denying facts that are right in front of their face in order to live some sort of fantasy narrative that the world is full of peace and love and that we can all just sit around a campfire singing Kumbaya. It's like dealing with a client who has fixated delusions. Short of prescribing medication, all you can do is smile at them and make sure they're meeting their basic needs.
-
For the record even the EU and president Obama declared the christians in Syria to be under a genocide attack. Reversing roles, as was recently done, is an attempt to claim moral equivalency. Let's remember some facts: There is a true genocide acknowledged by our government where people are being executed by drowning in cages, firing lines, crucifixions and beheadings for their religious beliefs .If history is any lesson, we will discover this was just the tip of the ice burg in terms of atrocities and war crimes.

No it isn't, because the US government actually recognizes that 85-97% of all victims of terrorism are MUSLIM: http://www.globalresearch.ca/muslims-are-the-victims-of-between-82-and-97-of-terrorism-related-fatalities-us-government/5516565
Yes, non-Muslims are victims of ISIS too, but the vast majority of terrorism victims are Muslims, and most of those are probably killed for their beliefs.

Funny because I had this exact thought about Trump (and you). Once anyone confronts with FACTS not opinions we are told it's media spin or we don't know what the truth is. I actually had a Trump supporter try to convince me that the media was lying about the number of people at Trump'S inauguration though I was watching it live. That's bizarre and dangerous.
No one is trying to pretend that the works is full of peace and love but that doesn't mean it is as Trump paints it either. That's a false dichotomy. The fact that anytime Trump says something that is a lie his supporters are ok with simply explaining it away doesn't make those of us who question him the ones with the delusions.
I am not arguing that many terrorust attacks havd been perpetrated by Muslims around the world but many mass shootings here in America were perpetrated by White men and I don't hold every white man accountable for the actions of a few. You have said not to believe the stereotypes of Trump supporters so you want to paint Muslims with a broad brush but expect discrimination and understanding when it's your own group. Muslim are as heterogeneous a people as you are. I have no problem with strict vetting and screening of people coming from that region - extreme vetting is not new. I mentioned before I am from the Caribbean a region that also receives tremendous scrutiny before visas are granted. But I cannot support the branding of an entire group of people - that is bigotry at its most fundamental levels.

Formal declaration of genocide declared ...
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genocide_of_Christians_by_ISIL
In that article you posted it said the majority of the victims have been Muslim. Your supporting article acknowledges that fact - so why do we only care about the Christians. Why don't we care that thousands of PEOPLE are being killed?
-
Well, how about that. Even the beloved Pope Francis says there's a Christian genocide going on at the hands of ISIS and other Muslim terrorist groups around the world:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.yahoo.com/amphtml/news/pope-francis-genocide-against-christians-middle-east-004706737.html?client=safari
This sounds pretty straightforward to me. Christians around the world are being targeted with the end-goal of eliminating all of us "infidels" who practice the faith. More non-fake news from very reliable sources on this topic:
http://www.christiantoday.com/article/pope.francis.sees.christian.genocide.as.persecution.affects.200.million.christians/60393.htm
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3156055/Pope-Francis-condemns-pursuit-money-dung-devil-decries-genocide-Christians-Middle-East-World-War.html
http://www.jpost.com/Christian-News/Pope-Francis-demands-end-to-genocide-of-Middle-East-Christians-408585
And later he even states that persecution of Christians extends BEYOND genocide:
http://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/pope-christian-persecution-extends-beyond-genocide-81178/
Deny it all you will. As I remember, much of the world denied the atrocities happening in Germany before the concentration camps were liberated. Just imagine if people had kept their head in the sand a few years longer.....
In related news, it appears that President Trump will reissue the temporary travel ban this week and will exempt green cardholders so there should be no problems this time. Thank God someone is doing something to protect Christians in this country.
-
In that article you posted it said the majority of the victims have been Muslim. Your supporting article acknowledges that fact - so why do we only care about the Christians. Why don't we care that thousands of PEOPLE are being killed?
Yes, there are many forms of violence in the world. I would highly recommend researching why genocide has particular sociological concerns and triggers international war criminal status automatically.
-
I'm way, way more cynical than the rest of you here. I think Trump has, by banning Muslims, fulfilled an election promise. He'll be prevented by US law and then he can blame the judiciary for his failure to deliver. Win win. I don't think Trump cares one way or the other about Muslims or any other group including Christians. He cares about getting elected and staying elected and to that end, he'd probably support a $50/h minimum wage. IF it was a popular issue.
The real danger is that, the opposition will focus on Trump, use up all their political energy on opposing and defeating Trump and ignore the real problem: the congress and senate are controlled by Republicans.
Dialogue is important but, we should use some of our energy organising and engaging in real life politics. And talking to real people.
I googled 'how to live in a Trump world'--yes there are things to do.
-
In that article you posted it said the majority of the victims have been Muslim.
When it's convenient to your narrative. Please don't suggest I read - I find that offensive. I am an intelligent woman who doesn't take positions lightly and without research.
I'm sure we all remember Rwanda. Where was the US outrage when hundreds of thousands of people were being slaughtered there? The outrage is only there now because it is Christians who are on the receiving end. As far as I am concern innocent lives are ALL worthy. Who they worship or whether they worship at all is irrelevant to me. So I do not see the Christians as more worthy of refugee status from Syria than the Muslims who are also being slaughtered.
-
Nothing is more ridiculous than a great, bloviating white man standing on a soapbox claiming discrimination, "I'm the underdog! They said happy holidays to me in the mall! It's genocide, I tell you!"
And Thundarr, please don't tell me you gave a rat's ass about the Yazidis (or the Armenians, or the Jews for that matter) until the former popped up on Fox news last year. Forgive me, but you just don't sound like the SJW type ;)
There IS a horrible amount of violence in the world - everything on the flipped list was indeed a documented act of violence committed by Christians; and there are obviously equivalent atrocities committed by Muslims (and Hindus, and Buddhists...). Civilized people just hold that against the individual perpetrators, not against the religion as a whole.
But with respect to genocides, you particularly don't get to use the Holocaust as permission to discriminate against Muslims. Not when every Jewish man and woman I know is standing next to a mosque in solidarity against people like you, saying "Never Again".
-
Last I knew, Christians in the US were not under any threat.
But- LGBTQ- yes, those with disabilities- yes, minorities- yes, impoverished- yes, women- yes, Jews- yes. But then these groups have been on the short end of the stick since long before Trump. It´s just that he is voicing the antipathy that has remained "politely" under the surface. What we are seeing is mainstreaming of KKK and white supremacist points of view by Trump including Bannon and Miller in his inner circle.
T- you have not had the kinds of conditions that the above groups have experienced. Your scare was when you thought you´d lose your job and health care. As soon as you knew your health care was secure, you stopped worrying about it. How is it that having been in that limbo, you could not desire a nation where everyone has health care? I mean not just access (anyone can go visit the ER), but actual ongoing care. If you think that the GOP has your interests as a priority, I think you are going to be sorely disillusioned. The GOP does not lose sleep at night worrying about the middle or lower economic classes. We waste so much human potential in this country by not having a universal health system and high quality education no matter one´s wealth. Poor does not equal stupid and Rich does not equal smart.
-
You're right, OSB. ISIS, Boko Haram, al Qaida and the others are all so misunderstood. They really just need a hug, and for someone to say, "Everything's going to be okay."
-
You're right, dude, that's exactly what I said ::) ::) ???
-
What I really find interesting about this discussion is how the topic keeps changing based on assertions being disproven. The most recent assertion was that Christians had nothing to fear from ISIS and other terrorist agencies as their targets were solely other Muslims (Muslims as victims). Then when documented verification from Obama and the Pope was cited stating just the opposite of that, the topic changed to Christians here and now healthcare. It's like trying to hit a moving target, as each time a question is answered the question is changed to suddenly make the answer given wrong. Now who's doing the gaslighting?
What makes anyone think that Christians here are NOT part of the plan for ISIS and other terrorist agencies? Are we somehow immune here in our ivory towers? Does anyone know how many countries there are where it's not safe for Americans to walk the streets in broad daylight? Even the ones who wouldn't behead us just because of our Christian faith would do so because we're Americans. True, we're not under immediate threat that we know of but we also have zero idea how many terrorist plots get thwarted by the FBI, CIA and Secret Service every single day in this country. Can anyone say with a clear conscience that someone in Syria or one of the other 6 countries affected by the ban who believes all Christians deserve to convert to Islam or die is going to magically change their mind when they get here and decide to become an upstanding US citizen? What do we say about our spouses living in some sort of fantasy Disney-like world? If they hate us there they will hate us here. I'd just prefer the people who want us dead do so from the other side of the world. Do I feel unsafe? Not in the slightest. I don't live in a major city and I proudly exercise my 2nd Amendment rights so I think I'm good. What I DON'T want to see is suicide bombers in shopping malls, sporting events and schools. How many of THOSE would it take for that false sense of security to wear off? We may be safe now (although we have NO idea what is being planned from within our borders already) but unless we take action to ensure that safety is protected we could easily find ourselves in a situation like the one lady described where bombs were being detonated and bullets fired in the streets as part of our daily lives. Stop with the petty personal attacks ("people like you," etc) and have a frank, honest and respectful discussion wherein you cite facts to back up your points just as El and I have. Every single claim we're made has been backed up, so now I challenge everyone else to either put up or.......well, you know the rest.
Peace.

And those bombs and bullets will mostly come from guns fired by A$$HOLES just like you! Personal attacks, do you listen to yourself. Substantiated points! Proof! Good gawd, Thundarr, you need to start taking some of the meds you dish out to those delusional clients you supposedly counsel.
The truth is and you will never admit it, nor any others just like you... you white boys have been feeling threatened, disenfranchised, emasculated... and now you feel like you have a champion in your corner, called TRUMP! For now, you do, UNTIL his power hungry thirst needs more and more and more power. I can't wait until he throws you and your feeble white male friends and your silly white women who scream, God first, Husband second...under the bus. TRUMPSTER demands loyalty... but he doesn't return it.
Try to remember where you heard this from... cause you'll see all this come to fruition in good time.
Calamity, I totally agree with you, the dumpster doesn't give a tinkers dam about anybody but himself. His latest thing is being president, he will never see it as what it really is... A PUBLIC SERVANT to your people. All he wants, is to be KING of America.
osb, you are a brilliant lady but quite frankly you are dealing with UTTER STUPIDITY here... nothing anybody can say that will change the mind of STUPID!

Thundarr,
ISIS is an organization that was created, financed, trained, and unleashed by the US, in order to infiltrate into Syria, and engage in a proxy war on behalf of US, also in order to out balance Iran's growing influence in the region, owing to our CRIMINAL AND IMMORAL WAR IN IRAQ. The goal of the war in Syria, is to replace Assad. Let us see, who is more dangerous now. The entire military-industrial complex of the US or ISIS, Al Quada, AL Nusra, and othe smaller terrorist organizations. Religion is just a tool for these organizations to achieve their end result. The results that were ordered by their masters accross the ocean, and agreed upon by bloody dictatorial regimes of Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey.
We created a monster, and now we fear mongering and brainwashing our population. If the US really wanted, ISIS would cease to exist in a very short time.
Every week Trump opens his big mouth and says that we should have taken Iraqi oil. Excuse me, but last time I checked Iraq was a souvereign state, unapologetically destroyed by the US. The Government and the people of Iraq, should decide how that country is going to use its natural resources.
Do you know who many recruits ISIS will get just out of this statement and the Muslim ban? A lot, trust me. They would say, see, these greedy Americans are trying to destroy our countries, attack Muslims, for our oil. Would it be a far reached idea. No.
Again I would re-post a Jewish proverb. "Don't pee on my leg and tell me it is raining."

Thundarr-As a family counselor, I am sure you are aware of the statistics for child abuse in the US. There was an article posted in the forum the other day that showed it was nearly 40% suffered some kind of physical, sexual or verbal abuse or other stressful situation (like an abused mother, drug addiction in the home). I found this shocking. And since so many of us have spouses that grew up in households where this sort of thing went on and they wound up with MLC later in life, the impact of this is devastating. This is something about which you can actually maybe have an impact, help people, do something about it, because it is something you know something about due to your training and experience.

Good, good. Let the Butthurt flow through you. Ignore the fact that your own beloved Prime Minister embraced Trump just last week.

Syria, Iraq, Iran, Egypt, Lebanon were the most religiously tolerant, multi-denominational countries of the region, where my compatriots found refuge after bloody Genocide of 1915, perpetrated by Ottoman Impire. My compatriots enjoyed flourishing lives in these countries, able to practice their religion, and keep their culture and schools. Muslims opened their hearts and homes to my compatriots, they peacefully co-existed in Middle East for centuries. Who ignited these wars? Who destroyed the Middle East? Who incited religious intolerance, and divide? A country that is thousands miles away from that region, in order to gain control over the region's carbohydrate wealth. Just listen to congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard, she served in Iraq, she knows what is going on. Enough this brainwashing.
And yes now Christians are being slaughtered in Middle East, but guess what? The responsibility lies with US for these acts of atrocity. Because we created and continue to feed the monster, that is ISIS. Again, if US really wanted ISIS would cease to exist ina very short time. And I am not talking about Muslim ban.

Actually, Thundarr, Canadian Prime Minister, was taking Trump to school while visiting him in Washington D.C.
Curricula included the following subjects:
1. Plurality of opinions
2. Trade negotioations
3. Immigration and refugee rights
4. Other subjects pertaining to bi-lateral relations.
The teacher exhibited superior mastery of all subjects. His delivery was eloquent and well recieved and admired.
The student is work in progress at best.

T,
You brought up healthcare in your post yesterday. You can now read Ryan´s version at the NYTimes that is being called less for more- less coverage for more money.
You posted that Christians in the US were under attack today. Don´t worry, I´m sure that were ISIS to reach our shores in critical mass, they would obliterate the Jews first. You are safe.
No one would disagree that ISIS attacks Christians. To me, calling a terrorist an Islamic terrorist is like calling a wolf in sheep´s clothing a sheep. They hide behind the pretext of doing their actions out of devotion to a faith. Sounds a lot like the Crusades. Yes, I would argue that the crusaders were not true Christians- last I knew Christianity was not a killer faith either.
On the lighter side, the Canadian PM avoided the Trumpian embrace by putting his left hand on Trump´s right shoulder to brace against him to keep Trump from yanking him in on the now famous Trumpian power play handshake.
Maybe this all comes down to a difference in demographic diversity between the coasts and the interior rural and relatively rural US. Humans are wired to be suspicious of difference and it takes an awareness and effort to go beyond that instinct.
Other than Fox news and facebook, what news sources are you tapping into on a daily basis?
-
Good, good. Let the Butthurt flow through you. Ignore the fact that your own beloved Prime Minister embraced Trump just last week.
I was about to say, "that is called DIPLOMACY", butthead! lol Sadly, there are quite a few people in Canada that are a lot like Thundarr, claiming that Justin Trudeau sucked up to the dumpster!
It is lovely to see, so many very smart people say how polished and eloquent a Statesman my Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau is. Thank you fellow LBSer for your kind words of my Prime Minister. Handsome kid, isn't he? Smart too!
Hugs Stayed

I already do this every day. Not sure if I'm making a significant difference or not as I guess there's no way one would ever know if they helped prevent an MLC.
Karmir, I said many times I won't debate our part in creating the hostility against Americans as I know we and Israel have played a part, but that doesn't help protect us from the problem. I hope we can one day have peace between us and all of our current enemies but I don't know if that can happen in our lifetimes when you're talking generations of hatred between religious philosophies. Many Muslims are still angry over the Crusades apparently and are continuing that fight, per reports.
FTT, the thing is that if you read back there were SEVERAL who denied that Muslims were targeting Christians at all, and NOT ONE SINGE ONE admitted being wrong about that. I'm not a big Paul Ryan fan anymore so I wouldn't be surprised if his plan is faulty, but the promises Obama made were too far-reaching and unsustainable. We may well have to deal with accepting less at a higher rate just because that's reality. I am excited for Rand Paul's plan and what that might look like. I'm also excited about how many will have jobs available now that will offer health insurance. Hopefully we can start focusing on training that workforce so that we can once again become a world leader in manufacturing and technology.
As for news sources I have several, including MSNBC and CNN who I like to check out just to laugh at the outright bias. Not many reputable news organizations left anymore, and the dawn of 24-hour news programs and the sensationalistic reporting required to keep people attuned to those channels has a lot to do with it. I had actually boycotted Foxnews for quite a while for this selfsame reason as I got tired of hearing about every super bug that was going to eradicate the planet's population.
And Trudeau can't lace Trump's shoes on his best day, Stayed. Know what I'm talking "aboot." lol

I am shutting down this thread.
Discussing the election was fine and normal when it was such a large part of our lives, but this has gone well-beyond and has become an issues thread and some people are being inappropriate in their anger as they disagree with one another.
I have not read more than the first few posts...yet. But what I read was so bad that I want to shut it down now and I can finish reading later.
-
Debate, differences of opinion and conflict are not in themselves bad things...but they must be done with respect for the "other's voice.
I apologize for using this closed thread to post. I am trying to steer clear of the actual topic of debate in this post—and sometimes I’ve probably failed. Instead, my intention is to point out how this discussion went off the rails and became uncivil.
I am choosing not to quote the comments with the person’s name and a link—you can look back and see who said what and may already know who said what. This is because I am not at this time trying to highlight anyone and call them out—that will be for PM. I just want to show how some comments are ineffective and rude.
I am uncertain whether this thread or a new election thread will be opened later because there would need to be some moderation of posts before they go public—due to the rudeness. I have commented to most of the quotes, but some I am just leaving alone with the general comment here: This does not further the debate or sway people to your views.
Please don’t get after me if I fail to include something inappropriate, there was a lot to choose from and so I did not include everything.
The amount of misinformation and propaganda on this thread is staggering.
There's a lot of butthurt going around because Hillary lost in a shocking defeat after an ugly campaign…
Butthurt? Let’s keep it civil.
This does not speak to the issues of concern, but is just something slung to upset and insult your opponents who may have valid reasons for their beliefs—just like you.]
Point: respect that both sides believe in their views of the issues (you can do this without agreeing with their views…just validate), rather than the side opposite you is just having a tantrum and your side knows best.
We suffered through 8 years of a Teflon-coated figurehead president and none of our lives are better now…
Speak for yourself. My life is certainly better now. I prefer to give the credit to Chuck and myself and not the president, but my point is do not assume a universal experience. It’s going to work against your argument since we each have unique and personal interpretations and experiences of events.
Your vision of how the World works, and arrogance of your uninformed messages is really
While I may agree with this sort of comment regarding some visions, it still does not help further a civil debate or discourse, rather it insults and alienates the opposition who may reciprocate with mud and the debate just becomes dirtier and dirtier.
No need for me to go on because your argument seems to be so FOX news dictated, Like they brainwashed you, I'd rather watch them.
I'd prefer to have an intelligent debate where we could both learn from.
I’d prefer an intelligent (and civil) debate too, but this is not how to get there. Both sides are doing this—this comment is similar from the other side.
…the liberal narrative that implies anyone who disagrees with them does so out of fear or hatred.
to even call it that is stupid.
Do you guys have amnesia or just choose to forget
there's no reasoning with many of you as all you know are insults and dismissals of facts.
and people like you who resort to name-calling and accusations
no matter what FOX news told you
Nuff said.
Seriously…nuff said like that sums everything up and is conclusive? Do better.
I note your avatar here is taken from that site. So you must identify with the thoughts on that site quite closely. So can you explain how you are different from an ISIS supporter in that regard?
My avatar is taken from my favorite 70's cartoon. Unbelievable.
I agree…with the frustration of the comment unbelievable, and yet the addition detracts. The response (comeback) lost strength with that addition.
The comment regarding the avatar is an example of a comment meant to discredit the opponent with a deflection: you are some sort of radical, so we shouldn’t listen to you.
Deny facts all you will. I present neither opinion nor conjecture but rather actual facts, logic and reason. I'll continue to advocate for keeping you and your family's safe even while you continue to live in a bubble. I just hope you don't find yourself in the blast zone of what's to come, as thousands of Americans already have.
Discredit your opponents evidence by saying your facts are actual which implies theirs are not. And usually each side considers themselves to be reasonable—and often they consider the other side is not, so saying you are being reasonable without backing it up is irresponsible.
Then insult your opponent (living in a bubble) and finish it with a you’ll see in the end and regret your view/action/belief/vote.
This is a sort of attack and why people will complain about inappropriateness. It is not civil and goes off the rails to try and get others to see your point…and it fails. To me it seems ironic that being logical and reasonable were referenced.
It’s all opinion! Even the facts are spun through a web of opinion…on both sides and I do have a side in this, I just don’t think it’s important for the point I’m trying to make.
Your bullying tactics, name-calling and accusations are exactly why...
Projection.
...you're on the losing side of that division. Digest that.
I actually had to rethink my own comment to this so as not to go down into the pit. I am trying. Stop making this about winners and losers. The Hillary supporters and maybe non-supporters who voted for her think the entire nation is on the losing end and had she won, the Trump supporters and non-supporters who voted for him might feel the same way.
What I wish people would concede to is that this is not a normal election response. In a normal election I accept it if my candidate loses and am fine and feel the person who won will still be capable of the job—even if I don’t like their politics. People don’t feel that way this time. It’s way beyond the issues and to imply that it’s just a case of sore losers is disrespectful and dismissive of the opposition. And if this election should teach us something it is that the opposition is worth listening to—given that the Trump win was such a shock to assumingly most people.
Trump is the most alpha president since Teddy Roosevelt and I think it's just a shock to many people's system.
Nothing about issues here. And he’s no Teddy Roosevelt…Maybe I should become a registered member of the Bull Moose Party.
Stop implying, X. Nothing derogatory was said or mentioned.
That is a rude and ignorant statement. People were offended and that comment invalidates those feelings.
do not accuse me of bigotry for quoting facts.
The bigotry is buried in the comments and perhaps how the facts were presented or interpreted.
...stop the patronizing. It's just sad.
This sounds angry and to me it feels like projection and it does not add to the argument trying to be made--supposing that argument is to show why Trump is a positive candidate with good policies.
Take your "someone like you" comment and shove it. You're the ignorant, intolerant one to even make such dismissive statements toward those who disagree with you.
Rude and highly inappropriate
It is this sort of comment (along with others) that could lead to post moderation.
have you guys given any thought by how your attacks on me might be scaring any who might agree from posting?
It appears that both sides feel attacked. Attacking and then accusing of attacking are not going to help further a civil discussion and help sway people to agreeing and even understanding your point of view.
you may well be bullying others into losing their voice on a topic they may be passionate about. Are you okay with silencing other women or would you invite them to share their opinions in a respectful discussion?
The irony being that the comment is not respectful. Two sides accusing one another of bullying is getting you stuck on the bullying and attacking and avoiding the intended topic of discussion--politics in the US. It does feel as though one side makes attempts to deflect from the bullying and the other keeps feeling attacked and hurt and brings it back to that.
the vast majority are wonderful people but some are VERY bad.
Do you have any proof, or are you just going by what someone told you?
This is something I notice happening when one person seems overboard to others in their beliefs...we toss out or challenge everything they say because of who is speaking. There are people in all faiths who will use their beliefs for bad, evil and division and there are people in all faiths who use their beliefs for unification and love--hopefully there are more of the latter. When you dismiss someone--even though they seem so overboard--you fuel their feelings of not being heard, being disenfranchised and they resort to more anger and projection. Basically, dismissing or invalidating someone enables division.
You're irrelevant. Just go back to your communal narcissistic bubble and don't bother commenting to me again.
Seriously? I should not even have to point out the inappropriateness of that comment.
Again… a moderation worthy comment
People with low self esteem are vulnerable to "male alfa's" of the likes of the trumpster!
This is an attack on the voter. Low Self-Esteem was not a requirement for supporting Trump. I may not get why someone would support him either, but this is a dismissal and refusal to listen and try to learn why we are so divided...in order to unify.
you're not important enough to me to hit a nerve. I know you're hoping for a nasty response from me so that you can run back to the mod board and try to get me banned like you have 100 times before, but just like Hillary you always fall short.
More rudeness. And she did not run back to the mod board to complain...the complaints came from all over—and she was not one of the complainers.
I have many Trump haters on my FB page and love each and every one of them, even when we engage in spirited debates like this one.
This has not been a spirited debate--some have tried to deflect and calm it down, but the rudeness and attacks have been prevalent.
I've never in my life seem so many blindly denying facts that are right in front of their face in order to live some sort of fantasy narrative that the world is full of peace and love and that we can all just sit around a campfire singing Kumbaya.
Another attack rather than civil counter argument that furthers your point.
The world is full of what it has always been full of... peace, love, hate, violence... It's always been a dangerous place with some places being more dangerous than others at different times and with the dangers changing with history and technology. In 1776 war was different than in 1942 and it is different now in 2017. More dangerous? Hand-to-hand combat—a clear and direct danger versus being bombed by an enemy you never see coming. Living in fear, however, is a choice.
Stop with the petty personal attacks ("people like you," etc) and have a frank, honest and respectful discussion wherein you cite facts to back up your points just as El and I have.
I don't know how El feels being grouped together. On this thread he has sounded calm and rational and so have most of those that disagree--a few have had some inappropriate moments, but one person seems to have a monopoly on being inappropriate, rude, angry and projective… and this does not just detract from the points he is trying to make, it drives people further away--toward greater disagreement.
And those bombs and bullets will mostly come from guns fired by A$$HOLES just like you!
An example of the other side being inappropriate.
It's not that I don't get the frustration at the other side’s inappropriateness, but this does not help us raise the civility of the debate/discussion.
you white boys have been feeling threatened, disenfranchised, emasculated...
Discussing white male privilege and how they don’t get it is a common tactic and I totally understand it. But I'm thinking that it is not going to sway the people you are describing--white, privileged males. Some will listen, yeah, but others are going to take it more personally and be offended--even some who admit the validity. So consider what sort of argument you can make that will be less likely to alienate someone--and yeah, I know there is always going to be someone who takes offense, but consider what argument might work better on more people.
Let the Butthurt flow through you.
Again with that word? It’s immature.
-
I am making a public statement regarding Thundarr’s behavior. I am loath to make things such as this public, but many have pointed out to me that the rest of you need to see me taking a stand and applying some sort of consequences for his inappropriate behavior on the board. They are right.
I apologize to anyone he has offended and I apologize if you have not felt that the forum has protected you from him.
Thundarr,
You have something in your eye.
I detested Obama for shining the rainbow lights on the national monuments. It was a middle finger to the Christian community…
This was disgusting, rude and a middle finger to Christians like me. I may not like who you voted for, but I don’t really care and was not surprised; I care how you treat others and from your posts over the years you have shown yourself to be a chauvinist, racist, misogynist and a bigot. If you don’t see it, then you are just showing how you are unable to see yourself how others see you.
You call yourself a Christian and sadly there are many Christians like you. But Christ was tolerant and you are not. Christ was inclusive and you are not. Christ was a unifier and you are a divider. Christ practiced Grace and Agape for everyone. Christ loved the sinner. Christ associated with the people on the fringe like women, lepers and tax collectors. Christ loved his enemies.
Not only have you failed to abide by the The Hero’s Spouse Mission Statement (http://mlcforum.theherosspouse.com/index.php?topic=1146.0), you failed to follow Christ’s basic commandment: Love they neighbor as thyself. Or perhaps you are doing that and you hate yourself that much. Your behavior, while similar to some Christians has been unchristian. This forum is all inclusive, all welcoming, tolerant of all faiths, sexual orientations and genders and there is not room for anyone who is not.
I am putting you on post moderation for comments such as this and others. Yes, this has been discussed at the moderator’s board—and no, Stayed was not complaining to me about you—she had no problem doing it to you directly. For additional examples, just read the above post. (http://mlcforum.theherosspouse.com/index.php?topic=8706.msg568177#msg568177)
Your posts have been rude and inappropriate and I can’t sit by any longer. You may very well return to your Story thread and go back to posting about your life along with dating exploits and people may be disgusted and yet your story posts may not reach a moderatable level. BUT I cannot risk that this will happen repeatedly on other threads for other topics. It has happened before and in the 6.5 years I have not felt you have progressed in growth and self-enlightenment.
I need to stop sitting by and do something. You are welcome to continue posting, but your posts will need to be approved by a moderator before they become public.
