Her therapist happened to be my sil’s friend.

Highly unprofessional of your SIL's friend to counsel your D - his wife.  Highly unethical.

Still unethical. By sil I meant sister-in-law. The Leavers sister.

Even worse!! Too close contact.  Never counsel/mentor/"therapise"  close friends or contacts with close friends.  There has to be boundaries.
