https://www.reddit.com/r/Menopause/ you see so many women after 0 to 2 hours of sleep for months or years desperately talking about blowing their lives up, how they feel like completely different people, having no patience for what they used to soar above. I as a middle-age woman also have had struggles, but am thankfully not in that sort of shape. (Finances and luck play a big part, I am sure.)
Just want to add some data points to the hormonal changes question. For men this may be even harder to identify and measure, because men are taught to stuff down pain and not examine their feelings.
