Off-Topic Re: Songs for your mood
#10: February 23, 2020, 07:57:18 AM
Thanks for moving this thread back up - I hadn't seen it.  My playlists have been an unbelievable solace and mood-lifter. Sometimes it's easier to absorb the wisdom from music than any other source.  I'm going to check out what others have shared, and here are some of my favs - for sadness, anger, acceptance....

I'm the Only One, Melissa Etheridge
Let Her Cry, Hootie and the Blowfish
Release, Grace Potter (please listen to this one!)
Rain, Nick Fabian
Lay Low, Gretchen Peters
Sideways, Travis Meadows (for REAL!!!)
The Point of Arrival, Carrie Newcomber (hard to listen to the first time)
Monsters, Eric Church (wish I could have xH listen to this one)
Find Yourself, Lukas Nelson
Crack the Case, Dawes
And the Birds Sing, Tyrone Wells
This is Me, Keala Settle, The Greatest Showman soundtrack
Many the Miles, Sara Bareilles
No More Pain, Joan Armatrading
Spare an Angel, Chris Rice
Let Him Fly, Patty Griffin
100 Years, Five for Fighting

and from the VERY first days -
No Reason to Fear, JJ Hairston
Anthem, Leonard Cohen
Bright Side of the Road, Van Morrison
And the Healing Has Begun, Van Morrison

Edited to add one more important one from the early days: Comeback Kid, Brett Dennen
(I was crying on the bathroom floor, but here's the comeback!)

Here are the previous threads that members posted about music that had meaning for them.

This morning, for me it is a song by John Michael Talbot  "God Alone is Enough" and based upon St. Theresa of Avila poem.

What resonated with me were the words " Patient endurance, will obtain everything" :)

Let nothing trouble you
Let nothing frighten you
For everything passes
But God will never change

Patient endurance
Will obtain everything
Whoever has God
Wants for nothing at all

God alone is enough
God alone is enough
Whoever has God
Wants for nothing at all

God alone is enough
God alone is enough
Whoever has God
Wants for nothing at all

So let nothing trouble you
Let nothing frighten you
Everything passes
But God will never change

Patient endurance
Will obtain everything
Whoever has God
Wants for nothing at all

God alone is enough
God alone is enough
Whoever has God
Wants for nothing at all

God alone is enough
God alone is enough
Whoever has God
Wants for nothing at all

Let nothing trouble you
Let nothing frighten you
For everything passes
But God will never change

Patient endurance
Will obtain everything
Whoever has God
Wants for nothing at all

Loved listening to this old song while my h was gone, Baby Don't Cry by Smokey Robinson

Feeling the loss, while being optimistic, with a happy tune to groove to.

These have been on repeat for me for the last week, and I have to attribute them somewhat to my better mood - everytime I'm feeling a little sorry for myself the playlist comes on and I stomp all over town listening to these songs and arrive home feeling stronger:

Halsey: https://youtu.be/8nBFqZppIF0 - word for word everything is so true except I WAS stupid enough to have a baby with him.

Ella Eyre: https://youtu.be/pnDvD7Ko3IM - just like a phoenix

Lizzo: https://youtu.be/vuq-VAiW9kw - my new forever anthem

and I want to dedicate this to every LBS out there:

Selena Gomez: https://youtu.be/ia1iuXbEaYQ

P.s. I've just watched the Halsey video for the first time - grimace. Please don't let the gratuitous bikini wearing put you off - just listen to the song. Disclaimer: I haven't watched any of the videos themselves - it's only about the music.

Songs for your mood
#14: June 30, 2020, 05:55:56 AM
A new song from "The Chicks" (formerly The Dixie Chicks...album to be released July 17 called Gaslighter

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sbVPcPL30xc

One comment:
"If this causes one person to look up the definition of gaslighting and get away from a toxic person, it's worth it."

LOVE IT! Love them!
Lyrics
Gaslighter, denier
Doin' anything to get your ass farther
Gaslighter, big timer
Repeating all of the mistakes of your father
We moved to California and we followed your dreams
I believed in the promises you made to me
Swore that night 'till death do us part
But you lie-lie-lie-lie-lied
Hollywood welcomed you with open doors
No matter what they gave you, you still wanted more
Acting all above it when our friends divorced
What a lie-lie-lie-lie-lie
You're such a
Gaslighter, denier
Doin' anything to get your ass farther
Gaslighter, big timer
Repeating all of the mistakes of your father
Gaslighter, you broke me
You're sorry, but where's my apology?
Gaslighter, you liar
You thought I wouldn't see it if you put it in my face
Give you all my money, you'll gladly walk away
You think it's justifiable, I think it's pretty cruel
And you know you lie best when you lie to you
'Cause, boy, you know exactly what you did on my boat
And, boy, that's exactly why you ain't comin' home
Save your tired stories for your new someone else
'Cause they're lie-lie-lie-lie-lies
Look out, you little
Gaslighter, denier
Doin' anything to get your ass farther
Gaslighter, big timer
Repeating all of the mistakes of your father
Gaslighter, you broke me
You're sorry, but where's my apology?
Gaslighter, you liar
You just had to start a fire, had to start a fire
Couldn't take yourself on a road a little higher
Had to burn it up, had to tear it down
Tried to say I'm crazy
Babe, we know I'm not crazy, that's you
Gaslighting
You're a lie-lie-lie-liar
Oh, honey, that's you
Gaslighting
You made your bed and then your bed caught fire
Gaslighter, I'm your mirror
Standin' right here until you can see how you broke me
Yeah, I'm broken
You're still sorry, and there's still no apology
Gaslighter, denier
Doin' anything to get your ass farther
Gaslighter, big timer
Repeating all of the mistakes of your father
Gaslighter, you broke me (gaslighter)
You're sorry, but where's my apology?
Gaslighter, you liar

I just heard this song in a movie and thought it would good one to add here.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XD1cxSE25ck

Jet - Look what you've done

Take my photo off the wall
If it just won't sing for you
'Cause all that's left has gone away
And there's nothing there for you to prove
Oh, look what you've done
You've made a fool of everyone
Oh well, it seems likes such fun
Until you lose what you had won

Give me back my point of view
'Cause I just can't think for you
I can hardly hear you say
What should I do, well you choose

Oh, look what you've done
You've made a fool of everyone
Oh well, it seems likes such fun
Until you lose what you had won

Oh, look what you've done
You've made a fool of everyone
A fool of everyone
A fool of everyone

Take my photo off the wall
If it just won't sing for you
'Cause all that's left has gone away
And there's nothing there for you to do

Oh, look what you've done
You've made a fool of everyone
Oh well, it seems likes such fun
Until you lose what you had won

Oh, look what you've done
You've made a fool of everyone
A fool of everyone
A fool of everyone

A quote from a recovered MLCer:
"From my experience if my H had let me go a long time ago, and stop pressuring me, begging, and pleading and just let go I possibly would have experienced my awakening sooner than I did."

I expect a lot of people can relate to this.

Truth be Told

Lie number one you're supposed to have it all together
And when they ask how you're doing
Just smile and tell them, "Never better"
Lie number 2 everybody's life is perfect except yours
So keep your messes and your wounds
And your secrets safe with you behind closed doors

Truth be told
The truth is rarely told, now
I say I'm fine, yeah I'm fine oh I'm fine, hey I'm fine but I'm not
I'm broken
And when it's out of control I say it's under control but it's not
And you know it

I don't know why it's so hard to admit it
When being honest is the only way to fix it
There's no failure, no fall
There's no sin you don't already know
So let the truth be told

There's a sign on the door, says, "Come as you are" but I doubt it
'Cause if we lived like it was true, every Sunday morning pew would be crowded
But didn't you say the church should look more like a hospital
A safe place for the sick, the sinner and the scarred and the prodigals
Like me
Well truth be told
The truth is rarely told
Oh am I the only one who says
I'm fine, yeah I'm fine oh I'm fine, hey I'm fine but I'm not
I'm broken
And when it's out of control I say it's under control but it's not
And you know it

I don't know why it's so hard to admit it
When being honest is the only way to fix it
There's no failure, no fall
There's no sin you don't already know
So let the truth be told

Can I really stand here unashamed
Knowin' that you love for me won't change?
Oh God if that's really true
Then let the truth be told
I say I'm fine, yeah I'm fine oh I'm fine, hey I'm fine but I'm not
I'm broken
And when it's out of control I say it's under control but it's not
And you know it

I don't know why it's so hard to admit it
When being honest is the only way to fix it
There's no failure, no fall
There's no sin you don't already know
Yeah I know
There's no failure, no fall
There's no sin you don't already know
So let the truth be told

Songs for your mood
#17: March 08, 2021, 12:50:00 PM
This is the song that, for me, sums it all up. Sarah McLachlan’s Do What You Have To Do:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=B3nTYZcTb5Y

What ravages of spirit
Conjured this temptuous rage
Created you a monster
Broken by the rules of love
And fate has led you through it
You do what you have to do
And fate has led you through it
You do what you have to do
And I have the sense to recognize that
I don't know how to let you go
Every moment marked
With apparitions of your soul
I'm ever swiftly moving
Tryin' to escape this desire
The yearning to be near you
I do what I have to do
The yearning to be near you
I do what I have to do
But I have the sense to recognize
That I don't know how to let you go
I don't know how to let you go
A glowing ember
Burning hot and
Burning slow
Deep within I'm shaken by the violence
Of existing for only you
I know I can't be with you
I do what I have to do
I know I can't be with you
I do what I have to do
And I have the sense to recognize but I don't know how to let you go
I don't know how to let you go
(I don't know how to let you go)

Jun 24: xH and OW finally buy a block of land
Jul 24: xH proposes to OW... in front of the whole family, just wow...

Thanks for bringing this thread back up.

Been listening to this one on repeat:

I've been waiting for
Screaming like a siren
Alive, and burning brighter
I am the fire
