Off-Topic Are You on the Alt?
« on: July 29, 2010, 09:22:17 AM »
Some of us have been talking to each other on the alt. (Facebook)
I was thinking that maybe we could have a thread and if anyone else is interested we can connect this way.

So instead of me calling out those that are my friends there.
If you could post here instead maybe we could get a group of us together, at least electronically.

Anyone else that is interested can post here and we will go from there.

I will say that RCR and HB are some of my friends.   :) :) :)

Maybe RCR could start a page that we could all become fans of.
RCR hint. hint!

Edit -

I am reposting this here as I believe that the terms may have changed from previous periods of time.
If you are going to make a fake name it might be better to use a name that sounds real.

From FB

What names are allowed on Facebook?
Personal Accounts
Facebook is a community where people use their real identities. We require everyone to provide their real names, so you always know who you're connecting with. This helps keep our community safe.
Names can’t include:

Symbols, numbers, unusual capitalization, repeating characters or punctuation
    Characters from multiple languages
Titles of any kind (ex: professional, religious, etc)
Words, phrases, or nicknames in place of a middle name
Offensive or suggestive content of any kind

Other things to keep in mind:

The name you use should be your real name as it would be listed on your credit card, student ID, etc.
Nicknames can be used as a first or middle name if they're a variation of your real first or last name (like Bob instead of Robert)
You can also list another name on your account (ex: maiden name, nickname, or professional name), by adding an alternate name to your timeline
Only one person's name should be listed on the account – timelines are for individual use only
Pretending to be anything or anyone is not allowed

Not sure I understood this, OP.  Connect via FB, or the thread.  I'm sorry, I don't think my brain is working today.

xoxo

Some of us on the alt use our website names; mine is xxxxxxxxx  and make the settings PRIVATE so that only FRIENDS can see your pics and profile.  It's nice to see pics of the people here.

Voyager, that would be up to you, how much privacy you want.  If you look up the names given above you will start to find others as well.

I chose to start one under my name from another boards months ago - so few of my RL friends know what is going on I didn't want to have any "crossing" of my both RL and my board life.  So i have my "real " FB account and my "secret" one.  Sometimes it makes me feel like a sneaky MLCer.  Only one of my RL friends knows it exists. :)

Sounds good!  Since you need a separate email account for a new FB (I think) it would keep all of the FB alerts under wraps as well.  My H doesn't know about my "secret" email account either (oooh, sneaky! ;D)

It wouldn't let me sign up as Mermaid, and said the automatic system wouldn't accept this as a real name. What do I do?
