Meet-Up Re: LBS 'Gathering' Ireland May 2013

Hi there I would love to attend, never been to Ireland, but was planning a trip,  met a few of the Ladies and Gents before, and what a wonderful time is had.  As far as preference I am leaning towards Dublin, either 24th May or 7th June weekends.

Hi, I was checking airfares. They're coming up between $760-$1000 USD. Does anyone have any suggestions where to check for the best fares? I can fly from Philadelphia, PA, New York City JFK, or Newark, NJ.

Learning, an option to look into is flying into London and then fly to Ireland.   I may already be in Ireland in advance of the weekend; however, there are a few of us here and we should be able to help get our friends from the US safely from A to B.  Suggest you look into this and then PM me and What Next if you have more questions.

Can't promise we will get you safely from one pub to another when we are in Ireland though......

Learning,  Virgin Atlantic has cheap flights to London: http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/us/en/ideas-lowestfares/lowest-fares/usa-special-offers.html. Maybe more people from over the pond are considering coming?

Dublin is looking strong as the location for this event based on convenience and cost; as a direct entry point to Ireland it is serviced by the main Budget airlines and easily accessed from most European cities.

From the US I fully understand the flights can be expensive, especially as this will be in the Summer season.  Aer Lingus can have great offers for early Summer flights and they generally go on sale just after Christmas.  I am attaching current link for cheap flights (to be taken before end of April) and will refresh this link once the Summer sale starts.
http://www.aerlingus.com/travelinformation/weboffersfromireland/irelandtotheusa/

There are low cost accommodation options for Dublin, budget hotels, room sharing or city apartments will keep the costs down.  I will source the best of these options and provide approx. rate for 2/3 night stays.  Dragonfly is correct, if you know what's involved in attending it will make the decision making easier.  Having said that the greater our numbers the better deals to be made with hotels etc., so even if you are only 'considering' attending please do let me know and I will look to secure the best possible rates.

I think I might be the only LBS living in Ireland, at least the only one connected to the Site.  I am more than happy to open my home to anyone trying to make the weekend.  I already have two LBS planning to stay with me but if this might be an option for anyone else, just PM me and we can talk.

I would like to see as many people as possible travel, so if there are any other suggestions on how to keep cost down please do post here.

Happy New Year to All!

Just a quick update, with the responses and PMS received I have chosen Dublin as the host city and the weekend 31st May to 2/3 June as the preferred weekend for most willing to travel, with Sat the 1st June as the main 'meetup' night.

I will pm the accommodation options (average single occupancy per night: 100euro hotel and 60euro B&B), where sharing or group bookings can be considered a number of the hotels and B&Bs contacted do offer reduced rates.

As there are no shortage of activity options in and around Dublin and particularly over that weekend (holiday weekend in Ireland), will offer a varied and flexible itinerary to meet all interests for however long you can stay.

Hope to see as many of you as possible in 2013!
