Plutchik wheal of emotions

Psychologist Robert Plutchik created the 2D wheel and a conical 3D version in 1980 as a tool for understanding his psychoevolutionary theory of emotion. Plutchik identified eight primary emotions, which he coordinated in pairs of opposites: joy versus sadness; trust versus disgust; fear versus anger and anticipation versus surprise. Intensity of emotion and indicator color increases toward the center of the wheel and decreases outward: At the center, terror, for example, becomes fear and then apprehension; ecstasy becomes joy and then serenity. Secondary blend emotions are displayed as combinations of the primary ones: Acceptance and apprehension combine to create submission, for example.

First ring represent 8 basic human emotions.
- Joy
- Sadness
- Trust
- Disgust
- Fear
- Anger
- Surprise
- Anticipation

Center circle is more intense emotions of eight basic emotions.
- Ecstasy
- Grief
- Admiration
- Loathing
- Terror
- Rage
- Amazement
- Vigilance

-Outer ring represent less intense emotions of eight basic emotions.
- Acceptance
- Boredom
- Apprehension
- Annoyance
- Distraction
- Interest
- Passiveness
- Serenity

Also exists secondary blend emotions and tertiary blend emotions by Plutchik. You can find whole list if You click HERE.

As always Albatross........very interesting.

The feeling that I have been experiencing for the past few weeks is disgust - it is interesting that disgust is opposite trust; all of the other opposites I understand. I have never seen this before, I will have to research it a bit.

Thanks Albatross  :)

I too found this interesting. It explains a lot of the cycle of my emotions.

Trust to disgust......hmmmm.

I always though that anger and fear were more closely related. That anger masked fear in some cases........

Yep, that table with 48 emotions is quite useful.

Though I know depression is a major part of MLC...this article still helps me understand it all.
I have finally learned to let go...have gone Dark...but the pain of it all still eats at me .... hard...so hard.
The OW is also depressed...what hope is there for H to heal at all in that relationship?

As LBS's we have to go through the same process that our MLCer does; the difference being that we seek to understand and look for ways to grow where our MLCer looks for ways to escape. Eventually we make through even though there are days that we think we can't take another step. So I guess I see hope in our MLCer's healing because we are able to heal; it just takes them a lot longer.
