When I was in college I read a book about firstborns. It talked about some of the personality traits we all have in common.
I'm hazy on the details now, but I seem to recall that firstborns are accustomed to looking after or helping their younger siblings growing up.
Me: 45, Her: 40. Married 16 1/2 years, together(-ish) 20.
Status: BD 8/25/09, she moved out 8/28/10. No talk of D.
