Off-Topic Does anyone have Windows 10?
OP: October 11, 2015, 04:42:59 PM
My Windows 7 computer is overheating. I am trying to determine if it is worth it to get a  new one with windows 10 or repair my laptop. I thought I'd ask the forum if Windows 10 users like the experience, since you all use computers frequently  ;)

Don't do it. Or if you must, wait a few months until they have time to work out the bugs. The firetrucker has no option to shut off automatic updates and updates itself constantly. Mine has had to be reinstalled twice in the last week, and the option to "return to previous build" is a lie, it won't actually let me.
Beats "8" though.

Preferred choices.

1. Stay with 7
2. Go to 10
3. Go to 8

Had 8.1 6mths, hate it with a passion.
Telling ya , XP was 10 times better than this mad time wasting piece of crud. 10 times easier to and did 10 times more things.

Seems like almost anything involving computers or websites, tinker fiddle tinker fiddle , until they've ruined it and made it as confusing and as much work as possible.

Don't EVEN get me started on this.
I switched from Windows 7 to 8 and have hated it!!

I'd stick with Windows 7.  Wish I could go back.

I'm not even going to try 10 until I hear great reviews.

And then mrs smarty I can do this by myself britches updated all the apple stuff too... Lesson learned... Spent most of yesterday trying to fix it...

Epic fail... Geek heroes are on it now... Let's see what happens!!!!

I have Windows 10, my current laptop was bought with Windows 8.1, which was not very easy to use. I think Windows 10 is much improved! At work, I still use Vista...
My mother, who is 76, is enjoying Windows 10, much better than 8.1.

There are some bugs, no doubt, I lost my 'start' button (the best improvement over Windows 8 ;D) for a few weeks and then it came back after some updates. It sometimes loses the pointing device, and gets a bit 'hot' when I insist on having 4 or 5 windows open at the same time. Otherwise, I think it is a great improvement over 7 and 8!

Really Mitzpah?  You're the first person I've heard of that prefers 10 over 7.

To me windows 7 was sooo much more user friendly.
I have 2 laptops, one still has Windows 7, the other has Windows 8.1.  Such a difference.  I use the one with 7 much more.

Oh on 8, there was no start button so I downloaded one.  Pretty easy to do.

I teach computer networking and cyber-security. My students are all geeks and early adopters and most of them have been running 10 for a while. I asked them las week what they thought of 10. That's what I based my earlier ranking on. The consensus seems to be that 10 is closer to what 8 should have been when it was released just like 7 is what Vista should have been when it was released. The preference for 7 over 10 is because any new OS is going to have bugs and hardware driver issues that will take a little while to iron out. 7 was the same way but it's been out long enough to have had a lot of those little issues ironed out.

If it's not going to cost too much to fix your old laptop and it's still powerful enough to meet your needs, I'd fix it and stay with 7. If it's going to cost a lot to fix the old laptop or it was already starting to seem like it wasn't doing the job for you I wouldn't be afraid to move to 10 pre-installed on a new laptop. If you buy from a decent mainstream manufacturer and you don't own a lot of oddball devices you connect to it then you shouldn't have to worry too much about anything like hardware driver issues.

Actually, I should correct that, I prefer 10 over 8! I have had very little contact with 7... I have used it on other computers but none of my own... You see, I had a good three years in which I could not acquire anything new (due to to BD ::)) and had no handy geek husband to install 7 on my laptop (still don't have a h. but I have been able to work things out for myself more and more...)
