Anthony Bourdain recently divorced his second wife after 9 years of marriage. Note the matching tattoos. Bourdain also has spoken openly about past issues with drug addiction, tying in to the views expressed in "I Don't Want to Talk About It" on the commonalities between addictions of all kinds, whether drugs or an OW. http://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/anthony-bourdain-ottavia-busia-separating-after-nine-years-of-marriage-w440899

OMG! ANthony was just on the Today Show and if he is not a MLCer, I don't know who is! He looks horrible and has all those tattoos. Time will tell how he proceeds from this.
-
There was an article in People magazine recently about Jon and Kate plus 8. She said that it was like one day Jon became an different man. He had a younger girlfriend at one point, has minimal contact with the kids and went into hiding for awhile. Reading it screamed MLC me.
-
It looks more like he has come out of MLC. The marriage to the second wife, who is 22 years younger and the matching tattoos just after a couple of dates seem totally MLC to me.
This break up looks more like the crisis is over. They remain amicable and sound very polite towards each other.
He had been married for twenty years to his highschool sweatheart up until 2005. By then he would had been 49. That smells of long term marriage with ending because of MLC. And now marriage number two also seems to have end because of MLC.
The first marriage for begining of MLC, the second for end of it.
Or maybe he is still in crisis and much younger wife number two was not enough ...
-
I always thought Patrick Dempsey has a MLC when he separated from his wife not too long ago. They are trying to work on their marriage now: http://www.usmagazine.com/celebrity-news/news/patrick-dempsey-estranged-wife-jillian-trying-to-be-a-couple-again-20151011
I always thought Tea Leoni got fed up with David Duchovny's MLC. He has been treated for sex addiction but she ended up divorcing him.
-
Oh, and Gavin Macleod had a MLC in the 80s, left his wife, divorced, returned and they remarried three years after divorce. It was at the height of The Love Boat so I'd reckon his ego was big then. He said he owes much of his turn around to becoming a Christian.

Nick Knowles is a TV celebrity in the UK. The section where the actress Gemma talks about how they met and how he dumped her is an insight into classic MLC behaviour on his part. Obviously she is OW but that actually is irrelevant - it's how he seems to be bouncing from woman to woman and back and forth.
Wikipedia info - Personal life[edit]
Knowles married his first wife in the 1990s.[4] Having separated from his wife, after meeting on set whilst shooting City Hospital for the BBC in 2000, Knowles lived with fellow-TV presenter Suzi Perry until September 2003.[5] He dated his second wife Jessica Rose Moor from 2009 until they married in September 2012.[11][12] The couple have a son, Edwin, born August 2014, but announced they were separating in January 2016. He tweeted support for Jessica in July when she was diagnosed with cervical cancer.
He reunited with his second wife (26 years younger than him) later this year but has, as of yesterday, split up again.

My mother just told me how Mick Jaggar 73, had a baby with OW 29. What is wrong with these men and more so with these young girls?

FYI - Mick has always been a serial cheater.....
What is wrong with these men? They are children. Never grew up. He has the $$ to attract young women...so he does.
What is wrong with the OW? Well, she just set her (and her child) up for perpetual $$ support. He's got plenty of money, so why not, right?
Mick Jaggar is a joke.
L
-
Add Rod Stewart to that list, too. He's got kids younger than his grandkids, I think, and a wife probably younger than his kids! All of his wives are that same Stepford model. Mommy issues? Who knows, but they'll always be able to finance it, so doubtful that they'll stop.
-
I read Rod Stewart's book and he is just an entitled, immature @$$hole. I was glad that Rachel Hunter was the one who broke his heart. He is addicted to the infatuation high.
-
It is so disgusting. My H's OW is definitely in for the $$. Having a baby would set OW free financially for life. Also, OW is 12 years younger than our children. If OW gets pregnant baby would be younger than our grandchildren, that H does not have anything to do with.

Celebrities lead such abnormal lives that I hesitate to declare any of them in mlc [imagine the temptations].
However. Johnny Depp on the People's Choice Awards? Poor guy. He's a mess. He seems to have taken on the Captain Jack persona but he looks like a grandpa. I wish I could tell him to relax and go gracefully into old age.

He's become such an odd topic, now. Having had the OW situations we have, it's hard to not see his most recent ex as having been an opportunist. Can't really explain that to people who haven't, who now see Johnny as an abuser. They can't 'look beyond the facts' that have been presented in the media. But I never want to come off like I'm condoning domestic abuse, because clearly I don't.
So ignoring all of that, LOL, the earrings... ::) I don't know if rock bottom is near, but he does seem a little different than he did a year ago. I actually think he'll come out of it, if he doesn't go too far with the drugs and alcohol. He may not reconcile with Vanessa (I think she moved on with someone else), but he was a strong family man before. Maybe he'll fly right for his kids' sakes.

Just looking at this 26 years old with this 61 year old makes me sick.
Really, how crazy are people...a young beautiful girl having a baby with this serial cheater?????
-
Mel definitely fits the bill for a "stuck" MLCer (or lifelong Narc, I guess, but he didn't seem that way when he first rose to fame). Even after domestic violence with the last one, there will still always be another young girl waiting in line, thinking this is the ticket to get set up financially for life. Sadly, it probably is.

I don't know, but 73 years old Mick Jagger just had a baby with a 29 years only. In the immortal words of Frank Zappa We (these guys' girls) Are Only In It For The Money.
Jagger is not a MLCer, he is just that way. Always getting a new, young woman and having children with different women.
Agree with Ready2 on Johnny Deep, if the drugs and drink don't do too much damage, I think he will be able to come out of his crisis.
As for Amber Heard, she already moved on to billionaire Elon Musk, who does not have a good track record on the way he treats women. Am I allowed to say again, Only In It For The Money?
Or maybe there is something more weird than the money that I find even more confusing to understand.
-
I saw a picture of Johnny Depp before he and Amber broke up. He looked liked he just crawled out of bed and dressed like Jack Sparrow. Gross! Mel Gibson's been popping up everywhere, even here in Maine. He now looks like Rip van Winkle, with the giant graying beard. He looks old. Maybe he's coming out of it.

It sounds like Tarek El Moussa from HGTV's Flip or Flop is in early MLC at age 35. Following two cancer diagnoses last year, there was an alleged suicide attempt followed by dating the 23-year-old family nanny. El Moussa is making the morning talk show rounds after filing for divorce.

I would say it could be daddy issues but that one might be one with grandpa issues!

I've always wondered that, Belle. When you look at a very young girl with an old man you have to wonder about her. I mean I get that they may provide them with money or stability..or adoration, but what do they have on common? I sure don't get it.
I just watched a special on Anna Nicole. She married the old billionaire. Now he showered her with riches and was very good to her and her son...but come on, the man was in a wheel chair. There couldn't have been any intimate relations, could there?
Well to each his own I guess. Maybe they just gave each other what they needed. She got to live like a princess and got to look at his gorgeous W every day. Trade off.

I read somewhere that sometimes the younger women go for the older men because the men their own age do not appeal to them for many reasons including immaturity. I work with someone who was probably in MLC, left his wife for a much younger coworker, and most people do not like the new wife because they feel she is a homewrecker. I think it is amusing to see them together because of the age difference. I often wonder if he regrets his decision.
-
Who knows, Belle. If he's in a crisis he just may end up regretting it.
My H was 17 years younger than me. It's rare but sometimes age really is just a number. He didn't relate with women his age and I always had more in common with men younger than me, so it worked. I'm sure their were people who didn't understand it, but it never bothered either of us. I understood we were not the norm.
-
But Mick Jagger was never an MLCer.... just a serial philanderer....
-
I never expected the Sun and the Mirror to be so spot on midlife crisis/affairs. And they don't go soft on it.
"---has joined the ever-swelling ranks of that depressingly pedestrian cliché . . . the middle-aged man who dumps the woman who has given him the best years of her life for a younger model happy to give him the best years of her thighs."
"No longer enjoying the thrill of subterfuge, the relationship can now be conducted in the open and move towards the inevitable next phase of occasional mundanity, familiarity and, uh oh, Jeremy actually being himself rather than the sanitised version we all present in the early days of a liaison."
"For someone who prides himself on his towering intellect, Paxman has fallen for the simplest and most idiotic of ideas – that the grass is greener elsewhere."
"Although, in reality, middle-aged adultery has less to do with how the other woman looks and more to do with how she looks at him."
:o :o :o :o Tabloids being accurate about middle age men and their midlife affairs. :o :o :o :o
But Mick Jagger was never an MLCer.... just a serial philanderer....
This. And he likes young women. And young women don't seem to mind him.
In fact, young/younger women don't seem to mind an older man if he has money. If the older man is poor, young women do not seem to have any interest in him.
-
I am liking that brutally honest and accurate media coverage. About time.
-
Yes, I completely agree. And I, too, was surprised to see this in what, frankly, is usually the gutter press.
It crossed my mind that this will reach a whole different segment of society than what I usually read does, which can only be a good thing!
-
I just looked at the Telegraph's reporting of it, much more bare-bones, as you would expect from a serious broadsheet; it says the usual bland "they retain a mutual respect and love for their children", of course.
For once I found the Sun's much more honest -- it also had another very good observation:
That’s not to say all relationships born of affairs are doomed. Many are happy.
But they still leave behind destruction.
No matter what the situation is, whether it is serial philandering, MLC, even when both partners agree to go their separate ways, if there is an affair involved that is true.
-
Thanks for posting that T&L. Good to read the usually unheard view.

Agree.

The Daily Mail seems to have them every week. I am always amazed at many of the comments made at the end of these articles, often saying:
-Midlife Crisis
-He will wake up and regret it one day
-The OW is only in it for the money
-His wife stood by him all those years and look what he did in return
-No fool like an old fool
-The OW will lose interest once he starts drooling and needs diapers
-He's old enough to be her father
-He a this, he's a that.....
-This won't end well
None of the comments are good or supportive and very aware of the possible outcome.

Former VP Joe Biden's son Beau died in 2015, and his widow is now seeing the still-married other son, with the former VP and his wife's blessing. I loved Joe, but this is gag-worthy.

You have to wonder.
Did his w divorce him over his involvement with his former SIL, or was there some other reason.
?? Hmmm...

I have been recently seeing loads of celebs and people in the public eye that seem to have MLC !
For example (I know most of you are not familiar with Maltese politics) In Malta its election time and our opposition leader (with all due respect to him this is not judging how good he is at his work) seems to have the all too known shark eyes ,today I got to know his story he has 2 kids from an ex and lives with his partner that seems so much younger than him and her daughter . The first time i saw him his eyes even though not of the same color reminded me of my ex's eyes ! Don t know how to insert an image his eyes really impress me :(
Then i also believe Tom Cruise went through an Mlc when he left Nicole Kidman ! And maybe even Brad Pitt !
So who do you think is a celeb MLCER ?
-
How about Ben Affleck and Johnny Depp.
They both seem like it to me.
-
Woody Allen
-
For those who reside in Australia - 43 year old Karl Stefanivic - Gold Logie-winning television presenter. co-host of the Nine Network's breakfast program.
Recently divorced his wife of 21 years and it has come out that he has been in a new relationship with much younger woman for some time.
Ironically this week his father has come out in the press saying that he has been estranged from his son for many years and believes he will never have contact again. Turns old Karl's dad left Karl's mum when he was a teenager....sounds like history repeating itself. Ticks many boxes
I definitely agree with Brad Pitt...the grass definitely wasn't greener.
Mel Gibson. Arnold Schwarzenegger, and definitely Bill Clinton!
-
Donald Trump with Marla Maples (wife #2).
-
There are four previous threads on this topic, if you want to see more examples:
. thread s merged - OP
-
Brenross,
I agree with Mel Gibson and Arnold, but I'm still not sure who left who with Brad and Jolie, she could well have been the one who had a MLC. You just never know.
Bill never left his W for anyone so I wouldn't personally put him in the same catagory.
Sorry, I don't know who Karl is. Sounds like MLC to me, though. ::)
21 years married and leaves for a younger woman...check!
-
Thanks Thunder,
I mean Brad and Jennifer...
-
Oh I see. Yes, I agree. :)
-
I think Tiger Woods is an example of acquired situational narcissism and not MLC, but the sad, pathetic bloated mugshot I just saw from his DUI arrest early this morning reminds me so much of my H a little over a year ago. The puffy face and dead eyes and the look of a man who is just lost...
-
I agree the dead eyes look just like my xh. It also shows that money cannot buy happiness.
-
This is only my suspicion yet T.I. and Tiny Harris all of a sudden are divorcing. Tiny dresses like and wears her hair very young like like her 18 year old daughter.
They had a family reality tv show sort of like a mondern day Cosby show on VH1.
Tiny is 5 years older than T.I. or Tip. She is about 45 while TI is about 40 I suspect it might be her having a MLC or MLT just from the changes I see. Who knows for sure if it's him or her?
I don't know if there is any OP yet I don't feel that is a determing symptom necessarly. Too many other symptoms for just an OP to be a definate one.
-
UPDATE So last night the last episode of the T.I. and Tiny family show came on and they explained more.
According to Tiny, Tip hadan affair and she filed for divorce. That said, I have no idea is MLC or MLT was involved yet a few things were more clear to me.
Tip expressed how he wanted to be Tiny's 'friend' even though they were invelved since they were teenagers.
Maybe my suspition was incorrect when I thought it might be Tiny who was going through something?
Either way, it's very difficult when you really don't know someone to say if thngs are actually MLC or MLT because sometimes people do have affairs and people especially celebrities often get divorced so who really know unless they themselves state it?
-
I see Mr Depp has humiliated himself again by saying something really inappropriate at Glastonbury. I'm not repeating what he said--it will bring HS down on HS [that's homeland security]. ;D
Honestly, Johnny Depp used to be an intelligent man if a little self-conscious. It's a rock concert so, things are said...but really this was just stupid.
-

2 women dating men half or less their ages....
Calamity - I never thought of Johnny Depp as intelligent. Couldn't understand a word he said as Jack Black and have never understood why he is revered so much.
-
Maybe he wasn't. He used to hang out with the intellectual celebrities like Hunter S. Thompson, Harry Dean Stanton and others--okay maybe none of those were intellectual but they certainly aspired to be. Depp was intelligent in interviews, a thoughtful person.
Later, just before or just after he left his wife I read a long, painful interview with him and he did not make sense--'the meaning of life' interview I think. Mlc.
-
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-asia-40632435
Interesting and bizarre article but what's the betting she was in MLC - affaired down and ended up paying all his and his family's bills etc....
Have a read.

I'm not sure if this celebrity has made it onto HS, but I recently stumbled upon the Dean and Tori show and realized this guy has MLC. Appearance, behavior, patterns, expression, weight gain, interests.
I watched some clips of this show and felt like it is a gift to LBS. Seeing someone else's story play out this way helped me gain perspective. It is obvious (in my mind) that this guy's problems are not psychological or marital. I think the show also depicts what is going on with the OW and the dynamic of this disfunctional relationship while showing that a woman drawn to this (i.e. the OW) really is living a fantasy and in her own psychodrama that is tragic for her as well.
If you have not seen this before, here is a clip where the OW meets the LBS after about a decade post bomb drop and now that she knows the MLCer has cheated on her as well. Who is coming out on top here?

I saw this as well! Yes. LBS comes across as attractive, sane, strong, honest. But according to him, she is "crazy," "manipulative."
He totally projects too: "The more she comes across as this wonderful loving person, the more people are going to ask, what the {eff} is Dean's problem?" Then he wants her off the show -- !!
Here is another one worth watching to get into the rationale for infidelity:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uKdYeyOOyxw
Sorry, updating to add this assembly of clips from the LBS. Also must-see:

-
I just caught up with these clips and whilst yes it looks pretty obvious what is going on here, there is in my mind a deeper issue here.
Why on earth would anyone LBS/OW or MLCer want the camera following their every move and detail? All of them have greater issues than the plain old MLC ones that are clearly happening but really????
-
I have to admit I have become a little obsessed with this story. Watching the interactions of this OW and MLCer is a huge window into the dynamics of this type of relationship.
I found this description by his LBS of her bomb drop. It was uncannily similar to my own, and I'm sure of 90 percent of all of yours. She really nailed the flat expression and detachment. It made me wonder what he was like before this; after all she seems smart and amazing. He couldn't have always been this space out zombie you see on the show.
For anyone who wants to read it, how he left her for "soul mate" of three weeks:

I followed these clips as well. Did you see the clip where tori meets up with her ex. It doesn't show the actual.meeting but it does show her reaction afterwards. She's crying because she said he (the ex) was someone who felt safe, someone that really knew her and now she felt lost. She did feel bad for hurting him and that he was a good man. That was an interesting clip because she goes home and tells Dean how she felt. The only thing is she continues to get pregnant by Dean and I think is still married to him. I really do think the winners in this thing are the exes. Tori and dean's life is full of lies, cheating, babies, and drama. Personally what they deserve. Feel sorry for all the children involved.
-
Just from the few clips I watched here he does look and act like a MLCer.
-
This is another eye-opening clip. She tells him that she felt "bamboozled" about two to three months into he relationship.
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=hXGqo6HzIEg
Also, notice the way he communicates. It is like he is reading lines from a script with no emotion.
This show is a priceless expose of MLC.
-
Wow. I just watched a few episodes -- it's painful to see this guy (Dean) to have such emotionally dead eyes and to watch the drama that is his life. And what a contrast to his first wife -- she comes across as vivacious and real.
-

Yes, he is simply flatly saying the things he is supposed to say and then looking over to the rehab counselor as if to say, did that come out right.
If you are following the bvFTD thread I think there is a case to be made that this is related, and the reason she can't connect to him is not because he hasn't "worked on himself" but because his brain doesn't work in a way that allows him to connect. I felt a ton of recognition watching these clips: the dead eyes, emotional flatness, slightly disheveled look. I am wondering why none of these therapists or people around them are not trying to get him evaluated for something much deeper.
-
I am wondering why none of these therapists or people around them are not trying to get him evaluated for something much deeper.
Maybe because these therapists are not genuinely interested in such attention seeking people - but they are interested in being part of such a celebrity style rubbish programme that they are just paying lip service.
I watched 2 clips and saw elements of an MLCer but also 2 other broken people (Tori and the ex). Is Dean demonstrating elements of FTD - who knows? Stop reading too much into this.
What I see is needy attention seeking people with low self esteem who believe that in order to get on in life they must analyse everything that is said or done.. and do it in public.
-
Sorry but this isn't mlc. Tori was the other woman for Dean's first wife--can't remember her name but she did a Canadian cooking show. So, forgive me if I don't feel for Tori--actually I feel a certain satisfaction.
Just shallow Hollywood rich people relationships.
-
What I am trying to say is that this isn't a crisis, and it isn't depression, and he isn't a creep. This is a guy with obvious physical and behavior traits of a neurological condition. In several scenes he even experiences severe migraines.
He has an identical look to my FH, with similar mannerisms -- who never looked or acted like this before. His eyes appear sunken and he seems "flat" and disoriented.
Yes, Tori is the OW. That is why this show is I think very eye-opening for a LBS and sheds light on the ongoing dynamic of this type of relationship with someone in this condition. There are several high profile personality I think may have this, and they all have a certain distinct "look."
-

I vote for 'creep'. No really I'm not unempathetic, I'm sure he has his issues...it's just that he's a talentless--I never liked him, that's all. His behaviour has never been different though so you can't attribute it to mlc or anything else.
Velika, mlc is like that proverbial elephant. If you see only it's tail, you think it's a snake, if you feel it's hide, you think it's a tree, etc, etc. It is possible that mlc has bio-chemical causes, who knows? But there are lots of other possibilities [hormones, dementia, even too much anesthesia]--we have several threads somewhere on this.
It doesn't really matter. I suspect we won't know in my lifetime. I wish it was as simple as a single cause. All we know is we have to get on with our lives.
-
Yes, I know, I participate in many of these threads. 🐘🐘🐘
My feeling is that this show offers a lot of insight into what is often speculated upon here. What does the OW have that I don't have? What is the MLCer like with the OW? Is the OW getting a better version of the man who left the LBS?
I would never tyoically watch this sordid stuff and I felt of course disgust over this guy. But removed from attachment to this story, I saw a striking similarity to what I have observed and experiences in my case. It offered me a fresh perspective. The similarities, especially physical, are striking.
I hope that more people begin to highlight and question this long held acceptance that some guys go crazy in midlife and there is nothing we can do. The internet has done a lot to help people share stories about once taboo topics and lift shame about them. Hopefully this can be the case with mental health issues in middle aged men as well.

Velika:
SongandDance tells you "to stop reading so much into this." I've followed many of your threads where people admonish you to get a life, to focus on yourself and to stop looking for answers on the cause of our spouses' sudden midlife meltdowns that destroy families, finances, futures and beautiful memories of our past because we are left wondering if we were living a lie for decades.
If we all had the mindset of unquestioningly accepting long-held, but illogical beliefs that were never investigated, we would still have signs at the edges of maps warning, "Here be Dragons"; we would still confidently assert that the sun revolves around us; and that miasma not mosquitoes cause malaria.
-
Velika, I think S&D is right.
You can spend YEARS and YEARS and YEARS researching and trying to find answers to what happened to your H...or you can just accept something went terrible went wrong with your H and try to build a better life for yourself.
The decision is yours.
Is it a mental disorder or something else, who knows, but it happened. So where does that leave you? Where do you go from here?
Wasting years of your precious, beautiful gift of life God gave you trying to find answers that will change nothing just seems such waste of time to me.
He is lost. That's all you need to know.
I think it's better to just accept something is wrong with him, it tragically destroyed your marriage and your family life. Period.
Could you have done anything to fix or repair it? No, but your life can go on.
God only gave us one life to live. There are no do overs. No second chances.
I choose to make mine as happy and fulfilling a life as I can. :)
I pray for all these MLCer's who have lost their way and hope they can make something meaningful out of the time they have left on this earth.
God bless us all.
-
There's middle ground. At some point, and we each know when that is for us, we hit a point of satisfying what we need to know. Acceptance and research aren't mutually exclusive. It's all part of the process. Obsession with it and using it as distraction can happen too. But for some of us we need to have a deeper level of knowing what happened. Just difference in people. Our commonalities are at the forefront so much here, but our processes are unique.

I agree.
I am sometimes guilty of advising others not to do what I've already done. :P I hate seeing lbs's spending any time wondering what went wrong with their spouses but I had to go through all the wondering to get some peace of mind. It all boils down to 'it's not your fault' [and it may not be your spouse's fault]. As long as you come to this conclusion you'll be fine. Eventually.
-
Velika-I wouldn't read too much into it simply because it is a "reality" TV program. They are never as "real" as they seem.
-
I wouldn't read too much into it simply because it is a "reality" TV program. They are never as "real" as they seem.
Exactly.
Here in the UK we have these reality programmes such as Made in Chelsea or TOWIE (the only way is Essex) which are real people (not actors) but they all have issues and behave bizarrely to each other - relationships abound and change like the wind.
I learned some time ago from my daughter who has a couple of FB TOWIE cast friends (God forbid and heavy roll of eyes) that whilst the conversations they have are genuine and spontaneous - they actually have a production meeting beforehand where the producers tell them individually and discretely how the conversation should progress so that they are set up for a confrontation. If they follow the instructions and it becomes explosive and totally dysfunctional then they get paid more!
They are not allowed to change the dynamics of the conversation but to focus on creating as much self indulgence as possible. So in a way it is sort of scripted.
How do you know that some of the Tori story is not "planned" and how do you know that the editing is not focussed in such a way to make them all look dysfunctional at some point. It is so easy to point fingers and say "There but for the Grace of God go I"
If we all had the mindset of unquestioningly accepting long-held, but illogical beliefs that were never investigated, we would still have signs at the edges of maps warning, "Here be Dragons"; we would still confidently assert that the sun revolves around us; and that miasma not mosquitoes cause malaria.
BvFTD - Really? I think you malign the human race and some of the LBsers on here unfairly simply because we offer advice and thoughts that contradict your own.
-
This is not about celebrity in the news but it is about a friend of mine whose husband committed suicide because of severe depression. He left his wife and 7 children in huge debt. H and I knew the husband well and his death was a complete and utter shock because he never displayed outwardly his inner anguish and pain. We knew that their business was struggling financially and couldn't understand how they lived in such a big house when they didn't have the income to match.
This is depression at its worst and "technically" Paul was at midlife. If you can watch it and see how the children coped and still cope with this situation. It is an insight into the impact that loss has upon children.
https://www.theguardian.com/film/2017/oct/08/the-kingdom-of-us-review-netflix-teenagers-lucy-cohen
It is out on Netflix from October 13th.
-
Song, how very tragic for that family.
Sounds like he just painted himself into a corner, financially, and thought it was his only way out.
How is she coping with all those kids?
-
They are all grown and young adults/teenagers now.
The youngest was only a couple of years old and the only boy in the family. They had always wanted a large family but because the mum had autism in her family - the gene was passed onto 6 of the children - but they are only on the "quieter ends" of spectrum rather than fully blown.
I have no idea what was on his mind, all I do remember is a lovely warm hug, a genuine need to listen to you and lots and lots of laughter.
Very sad but also shows how many times we can rise above our struggles and that not everyone has it easy but it's the attitude to move forward that matters.
-
I'll be sure to watch the story on Netflix.
Thank you. :)

I agree. If RCR didn't want to know more about what happened to her husband HS wouldn't exist.
Will not watch the documentary. My maternal grandfather did the same as Paul. I am well aware of all the hurt, grief and issues it brought to my grandmther and their 4 children. The difference is, when my grandfather killed himself, they no longer lived in the big house.
And the grandad had some mental issues he never addressed. Hardly a surprise. What men born in the 1910's would? None?
-
Charles Schultz, creator of the "Peanuts" cartoon was a MLCer. So was Dr. Seuss. Read their Wikipedia pages. Dr. Seuss' wife was so distraught at being abandoned -- she killed herself.
-
Will not watch the documentary.
That's ok Anjae. Just posting it on here for anyone who might want to. Not every one will and I certainly have no intention of re-stirring old memories. The documentary is also about how we carry on despite all of the challenges. Vickie (the wife) is now a public speaker, blogger and coach about depression and autism. Her life is certainly very different from being the envisioned wife and matriarch of a large family.

I doubt highly that this story has made it outside the UK but one political party leader is most definitely showing signs of Narcissistic MLC man! 50+ years old, left his wife of many years for 25 yr old woman who has tweeted appalling racist comments. He refuses to step down saying "He has done nothing wrong" He said he would give up his girlfriend but was then caught kissing her three days after he said they had broken up.
Most fascinating - I am so tempted to say something about MLC out loud to H but he wouldn't get it!

Well folks, here is another loser......
Our Deputy Prime Minister who is 50 years old has left his wife, had an affair with his 33 year old co-worker and she is pregnant. Sound familiar anyone?
His wife and four daughters are devastated and rightly so. Is anyone actually listening to how 'not right' this is? Not really, most are having a laugh and a few snide comments about the age difference but that's all. Very sad. He doesn't look happy although the papers are saying he is "happier than ever" - we shall see ;D ;)
Here's the link to the story, have a look at this woman if you want to see an affair down:

Johnny Depp, I believe, is entering next stage. BD or the "threshold event" was walking out on his family after becoming obsessed with a young co-star whom he impulsively married then verbally and physically abused. His drinking and spending are out of control, his hygiene is terrible, and he seems unconcerned that his teeth are rotting.
Recent interviews (since last Alice in Wonderland) with him are alarming. He stutters, cannot respond to multi-sentence questions, takes too long to process a question and takes everything literally. His left frontal/temporal lobes are now being affected, the language center. I think he is embracing his "rock-star" musical side now to compensate for atrophy in the speech center.
Ben Affleck and Anthony Lapaglia are a few years behind Depp. Just look at all of their dead eyes, the window to the soul.
-
bv, I wonder if Casey Affleck is also in early stage after sex harassment lawsuits and divorce from wife.
-
OMG - the "glamour" picture of the AU Deputy prime minister's OW is the dead spit of H's now ex OW! Dead spit means identical in case you haven't heard that phrase before.
-
I feel so sorry for the deputy prime minister's wife and daughters. We all know how terrible it feels at BD, and then to have it all blasted across the news. I was already humiliated as it was. This must be one of the worst BDs ever.
And, Song, funny you should say that because the photo of the OW/alienator in this case is similar to the photos of my H's OW too.
-
Does anyone follow the reality show Real Housewives of NY?
A few years ago cast member Ramona Singer's h, Mario, left her after over 20 yrs married for someone half his age. It's being reported today that Mario has kicked said ow out of his apartment, resulting in a domestic disturbance where the police were called. Of course we'll never know the details & he might have ow2 but if I were Ramona I'd be looking forward to having a great weekend.
-
Thanks, Sada, for that bit of news. I'm going to have a good weekend for Ramona anyway! Nice to hear that the OW doesn't get to eat her cake, even if there is another OW right behind her.
-
You're welcome Milly. I've just read that they divorced 4 yrs ago. It didn't take very long for the
ish to float to the top.
-
My bet about the Deputy Prime Minister is that the unmarried OW at 33 had her biological clock ticking and needed a baby and this guy was just ‘there’. Now she had what she wants, watch her scurry away. What 33 year old woman wants a 50 year old married man with 4 kids?
He thinks he’s a stud and super sexy, but most reading the papers sees a silly old man who thinks he can pull younger women.
One day, he’ll feel like a fool.
-
What 33 year old woman wants a 50 year old married man with 4 kids?
You'd be surprised! Seems that financial gain is a great motivator for many of these women.
-
Two full time smokers getting pregnant? It all sounds like such an affair down situation. What an idiot her is. He was ok looking when he was young, now he looks like a balding sick old gieser. I wouldn't touch him with a barge pole, but hey, I'm not sick, or a looser.
-
Sada—also in NY Housewives was Bethany and her “boyfriend” Who was going through a divorce allegedly when they started dating. The others all made a big deal about her “married” boyfriend but the show was quick to shove it under the rug. We all can see how broken Bethany is—awesome business woman, super funny personality, very attractive, but an emotional train wreck. I mean, she televises her therapy sessions and they are brutal. She has more issues that Vogue. Thus a true AD. Here’s an example of someone who seems to have it all. And for the lbs to compare to that would be very difficult. But, big shock, they broke up. Saw that one coming a mile away.
-
Did you read about the guy who left his wife to marry the daughter the two of them gave up for adoption years ago and now they are both being charged with incest? After he got the daughter pregnant and they had a baby together? That screamed MLC at me. He probably in some twisted way is dealing with the issue created by giving up his child all those years ago by having another child BY HER and planning to keep it this time.
-
OMG, GG, that's too much! I think I feel better now!
-
Wish we had a vomiting emoji. I am really beginning to detest older men.
Where I work we hire a lot of seasonal employees for the holiday season. Most of them are younger women in our area but they're have been a few men as well. There's one guy I've seen chatting with the younger women. Young twenties and he is definitely not their age. He thinks he's the bomb. So sickening.
-
Velika:
I am not sure about Casey Affleck yet. We will have to see. However, I am now monitoring Brad Pitt. His marital breakdown was sudden and involved accusations of mistreatment toward a child. He's 54.
It was reported he was responsible for a traffic accident yesterday, and he seems to have aged rapidly in one year.
-
I've often wondered if Angelina Jolie wasn't the ow in their case. There's something highly manipulative about her.
-
I always believed she was even before I knew about MLC. She has FOO issues and I have never really rated her either!
-
Oh yes, Angelina was the orig OW for sure. Big shock that didn’t work out.
-
Yeah Brad was married to Jennifer Aniston, met Jolie on Set for MR and Mrs Smith and they had an affair...then got married etc.
And if someone can cheat on Jennifer Aniston... I mean well it clearly isn't because she wasn't hot enough. :o
-
Jumping on. It hard to believe how acceptable affairs have become!
-
Before Brad and Jen, Angelina broke up Billy Bob Thornton and Laura Dern. I read not too long ago how some friend of theirs was saying how nasty and manipulative she was about it.
-
It hard to believe how acceptable affairs have become!
Not really- Shocked although I understand where you are coming from. It is an historical situation, men of certain society from middle ages (not just high class) had mistresses. Look at the Hollywood golden era - virtually every well known actor had affairs even though they were married. Divorce and remarriage was as frequent as going to the local petrol station to fill up.
We (as in society we) do accept them sadly and now find fascination in marriages that last and this is the challenge that LBSers have to face. Affairs are "scandalous" as long as they happen to other people - what the general public doesn't realise that this situation hurts and in the case of MLC - it is so, so much deeper than "just an affair for sexual/emotional lust"
-
I have thought (since I have learnt about all this stuff) that Angelina jolie has a personality disorder .......
and if Brad Pitt and is looking old and doing odd things it could be because she is planning highly manipulative games with him using the kids and is now out to destroy him.........because if she is a high functioning BP or sociopath...... this is the last phase of the BPD seduction .........seduce, abuse, discard..... and for those who like Karma Buses (not my thing) it appears he is being knocked over by one big one
-
Oh wow, SF. The Prime Minister does look like a lot of other MLCers I have seen. That same "puffy" look, and the eyes!
The wife Natalie is simply gorgeous in the picture farther down. The OW definitely looks and sounds like an AD.
-
The Deputy Prime Minister stuff has been on the news all day again....
There is lots of discussion whether things should be kept private because it's his personal life or if it should be discussed because she was working with him when the affair started.
Many think he should be removed from office and next week the Prime Minister goes overseas so cheater becomes Prime Minister for the week - God help us all!!
Maybe he'll pass a Bill to allow all older men to have plastic surgery under Medicare ;D
-
The DPM looks to me to very ill. I can't stand when enablers try to differentiate between public and private behavior, as if destroying a family is acceptable because he is a powerful figure. "So what if he has a partner? they ask."
I will answer: His betrayal goes to show his character, morals and integrity.
No one should make excuses for him. If he deceived his family, ran away and hurt his wife he was supposed to love until death, he cannot be entrusted to lead a nation.
-
Another Deputy Prime Minister update -
He is taking 'personal leave' for next week so he isn't acting Prime Minister.
The Prime Minister just held a press conference to say that DPM made a huge mistake by having the affair and has made it law that politicians and and co-workers cannot have a sexual relationship. Things get more ridiculous every moment :o
Deputy has been pressured to resign and they probably hope his personal leave will sweep things under the carpet. The baby is due in April so I bet it all comes back up then!
My H had an affair with a colleague (OW1)- i wonder if he should resign ;D
There have been some pretty telling statements made by the Prime Minister about men who cheat on their wives. He mad it sound like he'd told DPM to sort things out with his wife. If he's a true MLCer, that won't happen. Seems he was a clinger at the beginning as he returned a couple of times. It's obvious they are worried about his mental state.
I would be worried about him mentally too, although he does seem 'normal' when he's answering questions. He has apologized publicly to his wife and family but it was all very contrived and he didn't seem sincere - in fact NO emotion at all.
Typical MLCer. I'm taking bets on the duration of relationship with OW. I feel for his wife and daughters and the poor baby.
-
Totally agree with 1T about the Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt thing. I also saw a movie they made together, I think it was called 'By the Sea" which had both of them as the leads. The story was about their declining marriage and how it was mostly affected by his drinking and her depression. Seemed to set the scene subtly that she had depression because he drank. Highly manipulative move on her part to make people think, "oh that movie must have been like their real life - poor girl". I think in real life, he drank because she was firetrucking with his head. Makes me wanna vom >:(
As for our stellar PM. I just haven't watched because I can't tolerate it. The most I have learnt about this sitch is from SF's informative posts. Hopefully some national truth darts will be thrown though ;D
-
I find it really odd to be judging the spouse of an alcoholic. Period. We know how complex relationships can be. So why buy into this poor Brad/demonic Angelina thing? My husband has a similar little boy lost look and also became addicted to drugs/alcohol..He also attacked and did some pretty disturbing things to our children. I'm sure during the depth of his crisis, to some, I was a manipulative, lying, scheming woman...No wonder he abandoned ship. Thanks to this forum, we have a view from the other side don't we? I think Angelina is showing strength in detaching - getting on with her life as if her husband is not coming back; maybe she doesn't want him back. Maybe she's putting their children first and trying to be a better, happier mother. Or maybe none of the above.
-
I personally think Brad Pitt just had a MLC.
-
When we say "You can't make this stuff up" it holds true for Deputy Prime Minister!!
He just held his own press conference which apparently the PM didn't know about and called the Prime Minister "inept" and went on about how hard it's been for him yada, yada, yada. The press are having a field day and calling it his 'pity party'.
If the Deputy Prime Minister isn't sacked or forced to resign in the next few days, I will be very surprised. It's worth listening to his rant if you can get to a YouTube video, it's not up yet or I would post the link.
So MLCerish, it's crazy. I am positive his mental state is not too great ::)
-
Hope:
I agree with you: Mr. Pitt lost it so his wife initiated a divorce. Then Pitt took up "sculpting." Mr. Depp is playing rock star now. I think he, too, is very ill.
DPM Joyce is at onset: Betrayal and Chaos.
-
DPM Joyce finally resigned, undoubtedly under much pressure. He really thought he was going to ride it out.
-
I'm liking Australia's PM (video statement)

-
While I was in England I read about the actor Ewan McGregor who left his wife of 22 years for a young actress he met doing a film. This actress (OW) has now left Ewan McGregor because she says she's tired of being called a home-wrecker!
I have two things to say about this:
1 Good for the people who don't think it's ok to break up families.
2 How about apologizing for what you did?
I don't think she learned anything from this experience. I suspect that similar to many of our H's OWomen - they just get smarter at it. Next time, she'll pretend that she doesn't want to wreck his home, and then he'll be all defensive of her whenever anyone accuses her of knowingly going out with a married man.
-
The thing that stands out about all of these affairs is they don't end happily.
Does anyone here imagine the DPM (former) will be happy with his 33 year old affair partner and new baby now he is 50 years old?
I feel for his wife who gave him 30 years of her life and four beautiful girls. Fortunately they have not featured in the media, so that's a blessing.
If ANY of these situations ended well, we would all feel better but I have never found one that did have a 'happily ever after' scenario.
-
This was not an article about MLC in any way, but there was one person featured in it that just screamed out MLCer at me:
https://www.nytimes.com/2018/03/04/technology/dorm-living-grown-ups-san-francisco.html
Look for the section 'I was looking for more meaning.'
So this woman loses her job on the East Coast, divorces her husband, suddenly moves to San Francisco to live in a tiny dorm room in a bad neighborhood in San Francisco sharing the bed with her flea-ridden dog (see it scratching itself in the photo), claiming she doesn't want responsibility and prefers to make ramen (can we say college student diet?) and paint! And note how she is dressed, a tank top reading "Love is Free" and ripped jeans. And behind her bed is a huge amount of skin care products. She's happy to not have to go out and buy tinfoil when it runs out because she is sick of the responsibility for a home. I am guessing this woman is stuck in about 1994-2000 time period. I mean she even has the whole Marcia Clark from the OJ Simpson trial hairstyle look and her childhood teddy bear on the bed.
-
It's all in the eyes of the women in your article GIG - sad :-\
Update on the now EX deputy PM here in Australia -He resigned as DPM and has commented to the press he doesn't think he is the father of the AP's child as he was away on business for several weeks when she conceived. AP's ex fiance was contacted and he isn't the father either as they broke up in 2016 ;D according to him. So looks like the woman was also unfaithful to Deputy PM as well. This story is the gift that just keeps on giving ;D
Ex DPM says he is going to love the child anyway - get me a bucket - NOW!! ::) :o
-
I feel a Jerry Springer DNA test coming up.
-
Good Lord...it's like an MLC/ow playbook ::)
I am full of admiration for the dignity of his W and compassion for her and her daughters. I can't imagine how more rubbish I would feel if I was going through my own experience AND watching it play out in the international media.
Morte...I think your karma bus needs to nip over to Oz!
-
Treasur, I think the karma bus will get here soon enough!
One of the other female members of parliament has urged the press to stop hounding ex DPM as he is 'acting erratically' and she is worried about his mental health.
They had better get used to erratic behavior, as all MLCers act this way. It's the most erratic mental dis-ease without going into total psychosis. Most people could never ac t like a MLCer as they wold ave a breakdown, thank goodness for the fog.

Ben Affleck:
Article reporting he looks disheveled, bizarre comment, “groggy”:
http://metro.co.uk/2018/01/25/ben-affleck-looks-frazzled-jfk-makes-bizarre-comment-passing-wind-7259660/
Article reporting he misses his old life, not as 🤔🙄 “happy as he seems”:
https://www.google.com/amp/www.bostonherald.com/entertainment/inside_track/2018/02/ben_affleck_misses_life_with_jennifer_garner%3famp
The pair, though no longer together, seem to have the co-parenting thing down pat. They even go on vacations together, which is cool. Though maybe not if you’re Shookus. In Touch tapped a source (where do they find them?) who said, “She thought Ben was over Jennifer, because he truly convinced her that was the case. Now she’s telling friends that she knows ‘his heart isn’t with me.’”

Anthony Lapaglia:
And Anthony LaPaglia, 58, has been spotted looking a little worse for wear as he ran errands with Alexandra Henkel, 28, in Los Angeles on Thursday.
The Adelaide-born actor appeared dishevelled in a black Adidas hoodie, matching basketball shorts and green walking shoes
https://www.google.com/amp/www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-5237423/amp/Anthony-LaPaglia-runs-errands-Alexandra-Henkel-LA.html
Look at these photos. These men all have the same uncanny look — one my ex also shares.
-
For sure: Joyce, Dean, Affleck, Depp and Lapaglia.
I am also checking in periodically on Thomas Gibson, the FBI boss in Criminal Minds.
He was fired for kicking a coworker in the shin shortly after divorcing his wife of over 20 years.
-
And Ewan McGregor, as Millie pointed out, is probably also gone.
-
There are a few others we can check after their initial euphoria has worn off. It will be very interesting.
-
Ewan McGregor was a well known cheater. Sorry, he had an open marriage (or so he always said ::) ). His OW was married and it said she and Ewan are back together. Two, not one, marriage were broke in that case. He was a home wrecker to her marriage as well.
Ben Affleck is another well known cheater. This time, like Ewan, he left. Previous times, like Ewan, they always got back to the marriage/their wives always took them back.
But Garner gets no sympathy, she cheated with Ben. She was married, he was engaged to Jennifer Lopez. Jen was the other woman, and Ben the other men. How exactly was that relationship going to end, other than the way it did?
Are Ben and Ewan having a MLC. I think so, but those two were cheaters prior to it and Ben and Jen were home wreckers. Not exactly that same as someone whose onfy affair come with MLC. Or whose marriage did not start as an affair.
Tori is a mess and so is her husband. Those two have far more serious problems that MLC and have always had.
-
I think it’s interesting to watch how life turns out for all these OW.
Jennifer Garner: left her husband for Ben; Ben cheated on her with the nanny
Tori Spelling: reports are her H cheats constantly; latest reports are she’s had a nervous breakdown
Angelina Jolie: reports say Brad cheated and was drunk and not treating her well
Amber Heard: broke up Johnny Depp’s marriage and then her very short marriage to Depp ended violently
And sorry, but America’s sweetheart Jennifer Anniston was also an OW. Her SBXH Justin was in a long term relationship and living with a woman named Heidi and he dumped her for Anniston. And now he and Anniston are getting divorced
Thomas Gibson is interesting. I am a huge, huge Criminal Minds fan but hadn’t read too much about his circumstances. It will be interesting to see if he appears to have any characteristics of MLC.

It makes you wonder if what Brad and Angelina did to Jennifer, made her see things in a different light...and make it ''okay'' for her to go on and be the OW.
I think that probably happens a lot. Someone gets hurt by a partner, then thinks ''everyone'' does it...so they go on to do the same.
It is really sad state of the world these days.

I watched the OJ Simpson interview last night.
OMG, from what he was describing, Nicole was having a classic MLC in the years leading up to the murder. The ILYBINILWY, wanting a separation but saying they might get back together again, wild partying and exposing their kids to crazy behavior, then touch and goes where they were reconnecting off and on again. No excuse for murder, but what he described was pure script and I have no doubt he was an LBS being pulled through the wringer by her.
Watch it, you will never look at the OJ Simpson case the same again.

Any British people on here reading the story of Ant McPartlen from Ant & Dec and thinking total MLC.
For anyone who doesn't know who he is, he is one half of Ant & Dec who are huge light entertainment stars in the UK and among the highest paid celebs in the country. He is in the middle of total melt down involving divorce, pain killer addiction, rehab, and drink driving (which resulted in the injury of a small child). It is incredibly sad to see photos of him getting married, 11 years ago, and photos of him today. He is 43 years old.

I concur about the Ant McPartlen thing..... thought it when he suddenly divorced his wife amid addiction problems and then reading what Piers Morgan said about him not being the person he knew....plus his background, definitely seems, on the surface, a MLC situation...he is blowing up his whole life...very sad....and I do feel for his wife, she must be feeling like all of us...."what happened to our life" :(
-
Yes I agree Ant McPartlen's antics indicate a MLC, so sad to see and his wife does look shell shocked. It's bad enough being a LBS without the whole world knowing.
Another one who I feel is in the middle of a MLC is Paul Hollywood, of British Bakeoff fame. Left is beautiful wife for a 22 year old bar maid.

Hope this works!!!
Not sure how I missed so many in in MLC in the past. Knowledge is power!

Ben Affleck has been mentioned on this thread many times. His new back tattoo - holy smokes, it's crazy!
I was watching The Daily Show with Trevor Noah the other day and Matt Damon was a guest. Trevor started the conversation by joking about Ben and saying "friends don't let friends get a back tattoo."
Matt Damon just laughed and said it was Ben's choice. "It's not one man's job to tell another man what he can do with his back," he joked. You could tell he thought the tattoo was ridiculous but his response was simply, hey, that's his choice.
Reminded me of how our MLCer's friends and family react to a lot of their choices and antics. They're not really "supporting" them, they're just not getting involved because it doesn't affect them one way or the other.

Isn't this Paul Hollywood's second go at having an affair? I seem to recall that a few years ago he had someone, left his wife, and I think she even filed -- he begged her forgiveness not that long afterwards....
So is it MLC, or just tv-land making his head big?
And while we're naming celebs, did we mention Jeremy Paxman? Or was that already last year....

I don't know what happened there, if that is still going, or if it ended already...
-
Ah -- I just twigged that the first article on Paul Hollywood was from 2013, that is the affair I was talking about.
He did go back to his wife, but she is now divorcing him.... seems the damage was too much, and he's probably not through whatever he started then:

That picture of Jeremy Paxmon with his OW actually made me a little sick to be honest. :-[

An update on the deputy Prime Minister (now ex) and his AP. The baby is born - Sebastian, a first child for Vicki,( the AP) and 1st boy but 5th child after 4 girls with his wife, to Barnaby.
It's pretty low key here at the moment and probably will stay this way due to upsetting his wife and family, but on a current affairs show this evening, they put tether a basket of stuff for the baby, all joke stuff and in it was a signed picture of Johnny Depp ;D ;D I think EVERYONE thinks he is in MLC and this proves it.
Barbaby doesn't think the baby is his because he was absent at the time of conception :o ??? (what a woman the OW is) BUT, he feels he must raise the baby as his own - spare me :o ::)
I feel sorry for his wife and girls.

Isn't that what DNA tests are for? ::)

Things are getting real for Mr. Johnny Depp. The scales are falling from others' eyes.
He lost his high-powered legal team last month. His replacement team bailed last week, and his D.C. firm also quit. He has NO REPRESENTATION!
The deposition scheduled earlier this week had to be cancelled.

Re: Depp. I should have provided background.
Fresh off his MLC divorce from his OW whom he abused, he sued his management company of 20 or so years for 25 million, claiming they were the ones who lost his fortune, then he turned around and sued his long-term attorneys for 30 million blaming them, too.
Meanwhile, he is busily touring with a group of musicians, playing guitar. I think it soothes him.

Doctor has affair with co-worker six years ago. Marriage breaks down. Hooks up with OW2, a nightclub PR girl. Steals money and runs away with her.....lives the high life....ends in a bloodbath with both dead. Yup, smells like MLC. I was thinking about his poor xw and son. https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/6144966/hotel-manager-found-dr-titus-bradley-lover-dead/

Really bad to say...but maybe better for the wife he left.
Could have been the wife and son before he suicide himself. :-[
Perhaps he never would have done it if he had come home and worked on himself, but maybe he would...and the players would be different. I guess this just shows you never know if maybe it is a blessing in disguise that they leave us during this dark time. :(
