Just caught a clip of a movie called "The Captains" where William Shatner is interviewing other actors who played the ship captains in Star Trek.

He's speaking with Patrick Stewart (who played John Luc-Picard) who says that work was his life.  Interview continues (may not be exact words):

William: Do you ever get lonely.
Patrick:  Never, I really like my own company.
William:  You've been divorced twice.
Patrick: (You could see the sadness come across his face and the pain in his eyes.) The failure of my two marriages are the greatest regrets of my life and they failed because of my actions.  And there's nothing that I can do to rectify or change how I behaved.  The guilt is finally gone but not the regret.

Interesting.

Watching the VH1 Top 100 of the 90's, and I was reminded of the Shania Twain/Mutt Lange split.  He left Shania after 14 years for her best friend/assistant, and later Shania married the OW's exH.  MLC anyone?  Did a search to see if anyone else agreed, and found several blog links.  This one was kind of funny:  http://www.mamapop.com/2008/05/adultery-behind-twainlange-split.html

Strange things are afoot at the Circle K. Remember yesterday how I told you that Shania Twain and Mutt Lange were splitting up and according to Lange they had just grown apart? Well, it’s possible that that’s not the whole story.

People is reporting that several sources are claiming that the split is due to Lange’s infidelity. And The Other Woman is supposedly Marie Ann Thiébaud, who works as a secretary for the couple and manages their chateau in Switzerland.

God, that is so…tacky. And it just goes to show you that no man, no matter how wealthy and successful, and no matter how amazing his spouse, is immune to infantile and corny mid-life crisis behavior.

In other news, Lange is set to purchase a Ferrari and has an appointment to get his ear pierced later today.

Gerard Depardieu the (former) French actor who decided to first become Belge and now, because it was faster, Russian. Putin offered him Russian citizenship. And why? Because French president has raised the taxes for those who made over a million euros a year. Depardieu has made his fortune out of the French state, French, like most European cinema is State subsidised. There is no French cinema without the money of French and European (the European Union puts money as well) taxpayers. For decades Depardieu made millions out of the ordinary Frenchman, now that France needs help he runs.

And he even turn up in public saying that Russian democracy is far better than French one.  Last time I checked Russia was an Oligarchy, not a democracy, and Russian tycoons prefer to keep their money out of Russia. There’s gotta be a reason for it, I think…

This may be of little importance for non-Europeans but a let wing person has Depardieu, giving such a bad example, in a very trying time for Europe is terrible. Most people thought Depardieu attitude was low, lame and the one of a coward.

NeNe Leakes from the Real Housewives of Atlanta and Celebrity Apprentice is remarrying her husband after being divorced a few years.  In some of the articles I've read she alludes to him being involved in things she didn't condone and being threatened by her fame.  Given their ages and the length of their prior marriage, I wouldn't rule this out as being MLC related, but either way, it's positive to read about reconciliation.

Most of you guys can’t read Portuguese (Google translator will do if for you :))  but one of the heads of Portuguese government is, I think, having a MLC.

The State Minister left is wife in October 2011, by February 2012 he has living with a staff aide of the Prime-Minister. She is 17 years younger than he is, the minister is 51, the staff aide, 34. They have been dating for a year and are going to get married in March. http://www.vidas.xl.pt/a_ferver/detalhe/miguel_relvas_casa_se_com_marta_sousa_nova_atualizacao.html

No idea how much destruction the State Minister has caused to his former wife and to his daughter (D is 21 so he has been married for many years to his wife), but he is completely destroying the country, totally deaf to people’s needs, trailing ahead and having his way. MLC rose to the 1000th, since the man has the country’s (and also a word in European Union) destiny on his hands.

I know we bring Johnny Depp's MLC up as a running gag around here, but how this particular article refers to his affair with OW Amber Heard dumping him over his "moods" makes it seem even more textbook.  Poor Vanessa - I'm guessing she's got 2.5 years or so more of this until he's begging back?

http://www.oprah.com/own-oprahs-next-chapter/Oprahs-Next-Chapter-David-Letterman

Caught this interview today with David Letterman on Oprah's Next Chapter.  My dad had mentioned that it sounded MLC, and he was very right!  Letterman claims he has no idea why he felt driven to have affairs with women who worked for him.  Called himself a "weasel" at his lowest point when he was about to make his first public statement about the scandal on his show, and thought to himself, "maybe this will get me sympathy."  Says he is still earning his wife's trust back, but they are experiencing a better relationship than they ever had.  He also said he hit a big depression afterward (sounds like liminality).  Made me feel good to see that he obviously felt remorse but felt it was worth facing the issues and dealing with the fallout.

Always wonder how famous people, and their spouses, cope with MLC/infidelity. It is bad enough for us, add to it the whole world being aware and it makes the issue much more difficult to handle.

I agree. Actually, their often-dignified and gracious handling of betrayal was a big inspiration to me. Once, during my lowest period, I gazed over at the tabloids that line our supermarket checkstands here in the US, at pictures of some of the most beautiful women in the world who've been cheated on by really dumb men: Halle Berry, Reese Witherspoon, Christie Brinkley, Elin Nordegrin, Sandra Bullock, Eva Longoria, Jennifer Aniston! And, I thought, well, if they can keep smiling and looking great, and not lose their minds as cameras follow them everywhere, well, then I may just be ok. If they can do it, I can do it. This happens to SO many women, (and men!!) and I am going to be ok.

To love is to value. Only a rationally selfish man, a man of self-esteem, is capable of love—because he is the only man capable of holding firm, consistent, uncompromising, unbetrayed values. The man who does not value himself, cannot value anything or anyone. --Ayn Rand
