Mirror-Work Meditation
OP: August 01, 2012, 03:18:10 AM
Can anyone recommend a good meditation cd - one that will help me open up and listen to my inner voice?

Many thanks.

http://www.brainsync.com has some good ones that have always been reasonably priced, and I believe you can get the CDs with or without brainwave technology embedded (though I like that stuff). Some are guided, some are just music or ambience. I always used to get them at Borders Books while they were still open for under $15.  I've tried the more expensive Holosync meditation CDs too, but found the brainsync stuff to be just as good.

Right on! And I thank you for bringing these up, because I haven't used mine in awhile and I could definitely use it.  :)

The Buddhist form of meditation is by breathing, and focussing only on that. It's the basic way of turning off our chattering "monkey brain" and to know ourselves through our whole body. See:

http://www.how-to-meditate.org/breathing-meditations.htm/
Also useful are:
http://www.myrkothum.com/2-minutes-for-a-calm-mind/

You can also find some CDs on meditation (there are samples on the 1st link) here:http://www.tharpa.com/uk/meditation-for-relaxation.html

But to do it well, it helps to have a guide, or at least to do it every day.

I like the ones that R2T mentioned also. Some of them make me go to sleep, so I don't count that as a purposeful meditation. They do work when you sleep though. Also, they have a ton on youtube, just search guided meditation. That way you can try a few more and see what you like without spending money

I just signed up for a beginning meditation class at Tibet House in NYC. I am also reading a wonderful book about meditation called "Going to Pieces without Falling Apart" by Mark Epstein, MD. He has many interesting insights in the book, including this one, which could be applied to MLC affairs:

"When plagued with a sense of unworthiness, it is easy to feel deficient and to see the love of another person as the only possible solution to one's plight."

It's music or ambient noise (sometimes with subliminal vocalization, too) that has underlying sound waves (each with description here: http://www.finerminds.com/mind-power/brain-waves/, but given your area of expertise, you've probably know more about how these work in the brain than I do!).  It could probably be compared to biofeedback in terms of the science behind it.  Some people think it is nothing, others use it as a tool to reach deeper levels of meditation or manipulation of the subconscious.

H and I work(ed) in audio, and we made our own, and since we thought we had nothing to lose (ha!) we used the "deepest" sound waves and some pretty intense subliminal affirmations.  That is why I haven't offered to make any more for anyone else.  It was all prior to this, and looking back on my affirmations (and his)...let me just say, this stuff does have some effect.   :o
