Just from the few clips I watched here he does look and act like a MLCer.

This is another eye-opening clip. She tells him that she felt "bamboozled" about two to three months into he relationship.

Also, notice the way he communicates. It is like he is reading lines from a script with no emotion.

This show is a priceless expose of MLC.

Wow.  I just watched a few episodes -- it's painful to see this guy (Dean) to have such emotionally dead eyes and to watch the drama that is his life.  And what a contrast to his first wife -- she comes across as vivacious and real.

Yes, he is simply flatly saying the things he is supposed to say and then looking over to the rehab counselor as if to say, did that come out right.

If you are following the bvFTD thread I think there is a case to be made that this is related, and the reason she can't connect to him is not because he hasn't "worked on himself" but because his brain doesn't work in a way that allows him to connect. I felt a ton of recognition watching these clips: the dead eyes, emotional flatness, slightly disheveled look. I am wondering why none of these therapists or people around them are not trying to get him evaluated for something much deeper.

Maybe because these therapists are not genuinely interested in such attention seeking people - but they are interested in being part of such a celebrity style rubbish programme that they are just paying lip service.

I watched 2 clips and saw elements of an MLCer but also 2 other broken people (Tori and the ex).  Is Dean demonstrating elements of FTD - who knows?  Stop reading too much into this.
What I see is needy attention seeking people with low self esteem who believe that in order to get on in life they must analyse everything that is said or done.. and do it in public.

Sorry but this isn't mlc.  Tori was the other woman for Dean's first wife--can't remember her name but she did a Canadian cooking show.  So, forgive me if I don't feel for Tori--actually I feel a certain satisfaction.

Just shallow Hollywood rich people relationships.

What I am trying to say is that this isn't a crisis, and it isn't depression, and he isn't a creep. This is a guy with obvious physical and behavior traits of a neurological condition. In several scenes he even experiences severe migraines.

He has an identical look to my FH, with similar mannerisms -- who never looked or acted like this before. His eyes appear sunken and he seems "flat" and disoriented.

Yes, Tori is the OW. That is why this show is I think very eye-opening for a LBS and sheds light on the ongoing dynamic of this type of relationship with someone in this condition. There are several high profile personality I think may have this, and they all have a certain distinct "look."

I vote for 'creep'.  No really I'm not unempathetic, I'm sure he has his issues...it's just that he's a talentless--I never liked him, that's all.  His behaviour has never been different though so you can't attribute it to mlc or anything else.

Velika, mlc is like that proverbial elephant.  If you see only it's tail, you think it's a snake, if you feel it's hide, you think it's a tree, etc, etc.  It is possible that mlc has bio-chemical causes, who knows?  But there are lots of other possibilities [hormones, dementia, even too much anesthesia]--we have several threads somewhere on this.

It doesn't really matter.  I suspect we won't know in my lifetime.  I wish it was as simple as a single cause.  All we know is we have to get on with our lives.

Yes, I know, I participate in many of these threads. 🐘🐘🐘

My feeling is that this show offers a lot of insight into what is often speculated upon here. What does the OW have that I don't have? What is the MLCer like with the OW? Is the OW getting a better version of the man who left the LBS?

I would never tyoically watch this sordid stuff and I felt of course disgust over this guy. But removed from attachment to this story, I saw a striking similarity to what I have observed and experiences in my case. It offered me a fresh perspective. The similarities, especially physical, are striking.

I hope that more people begin to highlight and question this long held acceptance that some guys go crazy in midlife and there is nothing we can do. The internet has done a lot to help people share stories about once taboo topics and lift shame about them. Hopefully this can be the case with mental health issues in middle aged men as well.
